  • Not a "Home lobotomy", because then he would be just a pile of meat, his brain wouldn't function, this is called trepanning, instead of making the brain inactive, this cures the brain of any problems it had, i.e. the lump in Max's head.

  • It's called trepanning.

  • Damn, hardcore.

  • I like that the original title of this movie was 'Shifting Your Head'.

  • i bet Steven Seagal tought him how to lobotomize himself without dying.

  • amazing! this movie it´s fucking amazing!

  • from your HEAD but not your soul... i think there's a little more to it than just shoving a drill into your head and killing yourself just because you cant handle the truth within yourself and the man upstairs.

  • The Lord giveth, and the Drill taketh away

  • haha

  • I have read that you can treat cluster headache with LSA. Look into it.

  • I love this movie, great scene. Removing God from your head. Awesome

  • For anyone watching this: THIS IS NOT HOW YOU CURE CLUSTER HEADACHES! They are not gifts from God that make people mathematical geniuses. They feel like an eel or a cockroach has caught on fire and is moving around one side of your brain. Although the enlarged vein by the ear is an exaggeration, that exact vein feels like an expanding hose during an attack. This disease, Cluster Headache, is real and medical science has only begun to catch up with effective treatments within the past 15 years.

  • @bubbert1985 little too serious are we?

  • Pi is a wicked movie!!! BUT...............What a pussy! He couldn't handle the truth! I guess the New World Order likes to put out the 'ignorance is bliss' rubbish. Yes, don't find out the truth, let the jesuits / zionist priests get their way and stop you asking questions. It's back to reality TV and sports 24/7, yeeehaaaaww!

  • FARID STOP IT!

  • who's on the poster/book at the left side? i tried to find, but i didn't

    it's not archimedes

  • one of the best films ever haha

  • Sweet.

  • classic scene

  • i dont know what to understand from this. what does it mean.

  • trephination was used in some cultures beleived to cure schizophrenia and some other shit

  • @kingdrake2 see the film mate, one of the greatest things ever done

  • psychologic problem

  • π = 4 / sqrtPHI

  • thats interesting

  • what the fuck is this

  • I watched the film the other day and thought it was amazing. It's a really compelling watch. =)

  • i like the PHAT symbol better better and more

  • in the body mod section on you tube theres a novelist who filmed herself drilling her own skull, panning the cranium, very bloody scene. white out guaranteed

  • he was an hero.

  • he was an movie.

  • an movie lol.

    An comes before vowels.

  • An does come before vowels, why the fuck give him 6 thumbs down?

  • It's not a suicide! He did not die! He just took out what "God" put in his head, the lump that made him have headaches and desypher the real numerical name of God! What made him smart, after that he is shown being in a park and he can't even do a multiplication, but he is happy

  • Yeah, thats why its kind of annoying that everyone thinks he kills himself at the end. He just takes out the part of the brain that remembers math. And without the last scene, the movie really doesn't make sense at all.

He was a mathematical genius and destroyed all of his life's work, most important knowledge and obsession to become at peace with himself.

  • @8echan8 ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

  • @8echan8 How handy for the new world order, yeeeess ignorance is bliss, don't ask questions.......dumb sheeple are good......

  • I'm still curious as to how the effects on this scene were done. It looks VERY realistic.

  • Okay, the old man who sang to him was not bleeding in the subway. As for him creeping; dont you think it was more than a coincidence he was on the subway car reading the paper Max grabs out of his hand, when he discovered the "crazy" picks euclid had predicted correctly. I dont think they were hallucinations. they were more like dreams Max has when the pain of his blackouts makes him pass out. He always woke up someplace different than his "hallucinations" had left him.

  • The pain of his headaches makes him pass out, is what i meant not his blackouts

  • Wasn't suicide.

It a was a home lobotomy.

  • I am of the opinion that the guy who sang to him on the subaway was god.

  • he was a hallucination. what evidence do you have that he was god?

  • As for evidence, I have none. I was stating an opinion. But for that matter what evidence do you have that he wasn't?

  • Because he was creepin, and was later bleeding in the subway. Max himself even wrote "only God is perfect" on the paper. A perfect being doesn't just show up in this world and sing/bleed randomly. You came to your opinion somehow though and I'm curious.

  • But the reason i suspect that the old guy was god is the song he sings to Max. "Are the stars out tonight? I don't care if its cloudy or bright. For I only have eyes for you, dear." Then he disappears. Later when Max is getting confronted by the jews who demand to know the number, Max says he was the one who was chosen. That the number was given to him.

I think the subway sing-a-long was god's way of saying Max was chosen. When did Max write only god is perfect i must have missed that part?

  • I believe it was his father figure. In real life, it is Aronofskys' father playing the singing man.

  • This is the best scene of the whole film.

  • This movie rules.

  • this is trepanation, not suicide. i dont know why it's his temple he's drilling. it probably would be at the front somewhere by the frontal lobe, cos that is where problem solving and mathematical reasoning is done

  • why is this movie called pi, when it has to do with the number 216?

  • It doeshn't have to do with the number 216. Rather, it has to do with an unknown,c omplex number made up of 216 digits. the number

    "216" is 3 digits long.

  • And π is involved WITH EVERYTHING WOOWOOO!

  • manwalrus is right. It is trepanation. It was used as medicinal purposes, to relieve preasure on the brain and to take care of headaches, then in the 60's it was used to obtain a permanant high. It's pretty creepy, it's not suicide.

  • I meant to say t's pretty creepy, but it's not suicide.

  • Like the many people before me said: This is not suicide. He was on the verge of insanity and his last headache threw him over the edge. In order to stop all of his suffering and all of his pain, he has to destroy the part of his brain where everything he has ever known about the complexity of the mathematical world is stored. Max can now live the rest of his life in peace and tranquillity without ever having to worry about the 216 number ever again.

  • the whole thing is symbolic. the suicide is the VIEWER'S hallucination. his conceptual separate self dies. not the real person.

  • What? I didn't see anything in this film even hinting a duel personas.

  • no duel personas, just hallucinations. he hallucinates every time he experiences the migraines (remember the shaking door in beginning, brain on subway, etc.). his episodes are shot from 1st person perspective (through his eyes). as the movie continues the line between hallucinations and reality becomes increasingly blurred to the viewer.

  • This is strenghent by him drilling himself is seen in the mirror, the mirror-image=his separate self. Or something like that. Great movie.

  • The correct term for this is trepanation, and it's a mediaeval form of medicine. Very well effective for crazy people, apparantly.

Good movie. I still have this scene scarred in my head.

  • @manwalrus It is not medieval, it is still used today. Trepanation is simply the act of exposing the insides of the skull box.

  • i think you meant *trephination*

  • yeah but its used for open brain surgery and autopsy's, not as a cure for people who have epilepsy or any form of severe mental illness like it was in the medieval times

  • It wasn't even an attempt. He had to lobotomize himself to keep from going insane. No man can know the name of god and live. That's why he is so happy that he can't even do simple math on the park bench at the end of the movie.

  • But he didn't die from it. It could be considered a suicide attempt but not a suicide.
