How do you know how much film you've exposed and how much you need to let run through before you start shooting?

I just learned to load this camera yesterday! It was way easier than loading an Arriflex S16.

you cannot reuse exposed film unless you are talking about double exposure methods. It this is sarcasm then, yes, I do understand the price difference between a roll of 16mm ($130) and a DV tape ($6) which you can reuse if you are desperate.
