I have done auto body for a long time and it is the same idea. Buffing out the scratches it will work I have done it before. I used a homemade cotton buffing wheel on a dremal.

This does work I discovered this too many years ago working at a paint body shop . High speed buffer works good if you don't heat to much fix allot of cd this way

@callum54300 The fine sandpaper was to remove the scratches from the plastic, then the soft towel was used to buff the surface. A paper towel is coarser than a towel so you would be buffing lots of smaller scratched back in. Have you ever worked with a really fine sandpaper such as crocus paper? It leave wood feeling like glass it is so smooth.

this actually works, its the baiscly the same for auto body to clean up scratches on the paint. all it does is level out the scraches to an even surface. then the rubing compound and polish to clear up the small scratches left behind by the sand papper. leaving a clear smooth surface. the data is burned behind a plastic cover . so sanding the cd wont mess up the data. it will just resuface te plastic coating on the cd. make shure to use the right sand papper, and not alot of pressure.

For those who are sceptical about this method

I have always used this method, when i was a dj i had problems with scratched cds, i would use 2000 grit or 3000 grit sandpaper (if i could get it) this would make the cd surface level again (scratches reflect the laser thats why it skips etc)so by sanding the scratches out, then i would use brasso then to repolish the cd surface.

Thats what those cd cleaning machines do , sand out the scratch then re-polish it.

There's no need to clean up a Xbox 1 DVD since you can easily backup the disc onto HDD meaing once you buy the game back it up immediately. Anyway, you MUST alway clean optical discs from the centre going OUT to the edge you CANNOT follow the tracks the same way as the laser goes since you are likely to destroy the individual trails... nevber aver go in any direction than from the centre to the egde... this video is total bullshit and I voted against it

i dont see why this would not work as long as you dont get to aggresive and heat or warp the disk. work as a paint and body guy restoring classic cars we use this t give a car a mirror finish its called color sanding 3000grit is super smooth and if you add water it makes it 4500 grit this leaves mico scratches. the compond heats the disc causing the surface to fill the micro scratches so as long as the scratch isn't deep and you take your time should work
