iPad is not a computer, not a phone. It's exactly what Steve said it would be. It's an internet browser, multimedia/game player for those, who need a bigger screen than what iPhone has, but don't want to drag the laptop with them.
I personally prefer to sit down on the couch and read the news off an iPad, rather than iPhone or my MBP.

The base model (which barely anyone is going to buy) is the most adequately priced. The mid-range to top-tier models average a $550 walk-away profit.

If you doubt Apple's price-gouge history, take a look at the current top-tier Mac Pro that costs $3799. Now take a look at the hardware inside.
It isn't anywhere NEAR the sticker price. For $2800, one can build a PC with a 6-Core Phenom, 12GB of 1600Mhz DDR3, a GTX480 vid card, an X-Fi Fatality sound card, a 12X Blu-Ray reader and writer (something Apple is STILL lacking), USB 3.0....the list goes on and on.
The only Apple device that actually gets it right is the iPhone.

What are you talking about, kid? The current iMac line consists of hardware that came out LITERALLY 3 years ago! They're using first-gen DDR3, pathetic weak 512MB video cards that cost $90 brand new, and absolutely none of the high-end hardware that PC users get to pick and choose from at their leisure.
DDR4 is coming out in 6 months. The GTX400 series of vid cards just dropped. X-Fi and Auzentech sound cards shatter the competition.

I purchased the Ipad for college -- the computer works fantastically (besides some annoying connection problems from time to time) for what I need it for. It has over 150,000 (and growing every day) apps to chose from. The school apps are amazingly helpful, the games are awesome and the quality of the video is not bad at all.

Theres so much hype cause they're a business and they are trying to sell a product. No such thing as over hyoing if you're a business. Whats the mystery there? Apple has ALWAYS made a big deal about their products, this is no different. My numbers were backed up by an independent study by a third party company that does that sort of thing for a living. IGN posted the article on iPad production costs. The base model (which barely anyone is going to buy) is the most adequately priced. The mid-range to top-tier models average a $550 walk-away profit.
Apple isn't hurting for cash. The only reason they've become so big is for the same reason that people buy NIckelback CDs: they're mindless sheep.

If you doubt Apple's price-gouge history, take a look at the current top-tier Mac Pro that costs $3799. Now take a look at the hardware inside.
It isn't anywhere NEAR the sticker price. For $2800, one can build a PC with a 6-Core Phenom, 12GB of 1600Mhz DDR3, a GTX480 vid card, an X-Fi Fatality sound card, a 12X Blu-Ray reader and writer (something Apple is STILL lacking), USB 3.0....the list goes on and on.
The only Apple device that actually gets it right is the iPhone.

They're using first-gen DDR3, pathetic weak 512MB video cards that cost $90 brand new, and absolutely none of the high-end hardware that PC users get to pick and choose from at their leisure.
DDR4 is coming out in 6 months. The GTX400 series of vid cards just dropped. X-Fi and Auzentech sound cards shatter the competition.

Mac includes over 100 of different software that you would normally pay over $200-300 dollars for on a PC. First off, it's not for everyone. But just cause it don't work for u does not men it's pointless. I for one found the web browsing experience on the iPad to be very satisfying compared to my iPhone. Further more, it has nearly replaced my MacBook in the course of a week. One more thing, not everyone in the country lives in an area with a subway. Many of us have cars for transportation. I purchased the Ipad for college -- the computer works fantastically (besides some annoying connection problems from time to time) for what I need it for. It has over 150,000 (and growing every day) apps to chose from. The school apps are amazingly helpful, the games are awesome and the quality of the video is not bad at all.
The point being, don't blindly purchase something without doing research or you're bound to be angry for your own stupidity.

You aren't considering the much improved usability of this device over the iPhone & iTouch due to the increased size of the screen.
Comments about the iPad from those who haven't tried it aren't worth much. I have tried it, purchased one (64 gB WiFi), and it's a great device for internet browsing, mail, video, pictures, ebooks, better Apps, etc.
It's a perfect device for those things for which the iPhone/iTouch are too small.
