  • I refuse to look at this as a "version." Music is an art. Each artists "version" is only sharing the same words. That is like saying you don't someones painting because they used the same color pants as somebody else. Enjoy the music for what it is.

  • sorry jimy and clapton but this is the best xD MY OPINION before someone starts say bullshits

  • @3:26 flying shoe

  • i like jimi hendrix version better

  • thumbs up if you still watch this in 2013!!!

  • they had better cameras in the 70's.

  • love this tune

  • thumbs up if you still watch this in 2013..14..15...and 16

  • @AmericaNeedsTrump best live performance ive seen yet. if you have another please link

  • Fantastic!!!!!!!:))

  • An empty 90s bastardization of something that was done much better 30 years prior. This performance perfectly encapsulates the pop music trash-dump that was Woodstock '99.

  • @epicstl pop music? a lot of the bands that played were nu metal and shit

  • @epicstl Try #41 by them. They're a very good band. If you don't like them it doesn't really matter, but I suggest giving them a chance.

  • @epicstl 90s had pop-trash music, yeah they did just like every other era had trashy music, but i would not call bands that where at 99 Woodstock pop trash.

While i agree the first Woodstock was amazing and better then this one,but calling it trash dumb is a bit too far.

Imagine a Woodstock today my god now that would be an example of trash and zero talent.

  • thumps up if you tired of thumps up comments - ?! ;D

  • please stop the "thumbs up if" crap. just enjoy the music

  • Thumbs up if your going to watch this until the world actually does end! ;D Thats what I'll be doing!

  • Help me

  • thumbs up if your allways going watch this! and miss the good old days.

  • Thumbs up if you'll be watching this in 2013 ;P

  • there should be ''bottom comments'', where all those stupids ''thumps up if you're watching this in 20xx'' should fall in automatically

  • what bass is Fonzy using in this vid? i love the shape, sound and design

  • 2:41 i think stefan's trying to impregnate us through the internet.

  • Jimi was watching this from another place with the biggest feckin smile on his face and rightly so, feckin excellent.

  • WOODSTOCK 1999? I thought they only had it in '69?

  • @edwardLRS 30 year anniversy of the great event, the more the better and I hope I live long enough to see a 50 year anniversary.

  • its not right of us alone to rate this song. lol

  • that voice... <3

  • thumbs if you still watch this in 2012

  • just saw this for the first time - can't get it out of my head - great frickin' version of this song - this sucker rocks! Love the way he built it up from sparse to intense.

  • Thumbs up if you're going to be watching this well into 2012...

  • how the hell did one guy get two top comments?

  • nice, check out johnny heck on the. all along the watchtower

  • One of the better covers to me

  • The chief-nibbler of the nibbleonians was right!

    (Futurama S.5E.8)

  • Uhhh, wow! I didn't realize DMB is now into heavy rock. It's definitely a fine cover that's almost as good as Jimi Hendrix's cover of one of Bob Dylan's most enduring classics. The horn and fiddle mask arguably the best vocalization of this song ever. These guys were definitely jamming on this one. It was nice of the bassist to keep everyone in rhythm.

  • Thumbs up if you are reading this comment!

  • amazing job.

  • I clicked on the advertised U2-version of this song (probably in the bar on your right)... needless to say I came back to watch the dmb-version a second time. And a third time also.

  • The BEST cover of this song ever!

  • Some here say that Dave is a bad singer, so is Bob Dylan. It's a question of putting your soul and own style into it, not all great leadsingers sing very good. I'm not easily impressed by Daves voice, but I find that DMB has it's own style, I find that important. He's not the worlds best singer, but he's absolutely not bad either. There's a lot of great covers, I don't know, if this is better or worse, but I enjoy it. I'm a huge DMB-fan, but relax people, there are other great bands out there

  • Fergeteges!!!!!:)))

  • What a great version of this classical song....

  • just imagining that this occurred like 35 minutes away from my house is fantastic!!

  • bring woodstock back....

  • chills...

  • I Listened to this for the first time and cried tears of joy.

  • i like this cover more then the original song

  • amazing how many people are out there enjoying themselves i wish i was there yet i was only 6 at the time

  • I want this played at my funeral!

  • So wait... is Dave a Cylon?

  • thumbs up if you still watch this in 2011

  • @TheRclightning Thumbs up if you will be watching this in 2012

  • @ocroll well its not 2012 yet ?

  • @TheRclightning im watching this in 2012.

  • Nothing will ever beat Jimi's version, but this is a good take on it, like it a lot! Love his dance at 2:45 as well

  • WTF?!? 1:23

  • Lutonrio's right, so many versions.. if you haven't already heard it, you might dig the Michael Hedges version of it, underviewed in my opinion

  • It's amazing how many ways this song can be performed. Though i got to admit that i will always like better the Dylan's version, the core, the essence of the song.

  • @Lutoniro let's just hope it stays in the hands of the rockgod.

But i agreed with you, I haven't heard a single bad version of this song.

  • cityx and xcolour is a preposterously bantering parasite and a disgusting heart-sickening buggering buttock bandit.

  • Jimi is rolling in his grave.

  • @anqvu hahaha jimi didn't write the song and jimis probaly appundling in heaven

  • oh my god

  • Wow!!!

  • Wow, totally blown away, wait a great song!

  • Woodstock 69 three days of peace and music

Woodstock 99 three days of rape and riots

  • @cityxandxcolour does somebody have to write that on every woodstock video. for fuck sakes!!!!!

  • @bdawgmarsdin Yes they do and thank you for your riveting comment you cum dumpster, now shut the fuck up and piss off! End quote

  • 209 people got excited !

  • there are so much cover-versions of great artists but THIS is the best i've ever heard!

  • @dtfan41 better than jimi? I think not.

  • @consma3304 better than jimi neither better than bob dylan :)

  • @consma3304 cant compare them. So different. I get the shivers from both.

  • There is just something about how this is performed this one particular day that grabs me. The middle is edited out perfectly.

  • @DrewJudgeandJury

what part was edited? around 3:10?

  • It seems they released all of the residual energy that was pent up since the original performance...as Seger sang "As the sweat pours out your body like the music that you play".

  • Not a huge DMB van but I liked this cover a lot and I have always respected their drummer.

  • The bassist kicks ass

  • I kinda feel horny about this song...

  • ive been away from the laptop for a few hours, and im havn serious withdrawals from not hearing dave matthews take on All Along the Watchtower

  • Better than Dylan !

    Better than Hendrix !

    Better than a ORGASM !

    DAVE MATTHEWS <3

  • @Manzarrinha19 no ur wrong. this cover is shittier then i dont know what

  • @Manzarrinha19 Well Dylan and Hendrix both revolutionized music so...

  • @Manzarrinha19 lol no...

  • Look at the crowd OMFG Ö

  • Slow start banging end......great

  • Not even close to handrix though, still great. Bob dylan wrote great lyrics.

  • This is almost as good as Jimi Hendrix's cover. Almost. And yes, Jimi didn't do the original. Bob Dylan did.

  • hendrix shits on everyone

  • The way he finishes each note, it gives me chills.

  • BAD ASS !!!!

  • I love DMB &I LOVE Jimi. But Dave should have kept this more 70's. His voice is freaky awesome, but they slaughtered this classic.

I'm obviously giving my honest opinion here because I'm saying this knowing I'm going to get hammered by you peeps. nAs a drummer & musician & fan of both DMB & Hendrix, I wish Dave would have kept some of the Hendrix feel to the song. Okay to put your own hand print on it but some songs are sacred. Even Dylan could not do it better & he wrote it.

  • @kevjay777 normally, I would totally agree with your comment. Some songs are sacred, especially when your talking about Hendrix Dylan, etc. But on rare occasions, a band will take a classic, and literally remake it into thier 'own' song. I see that here, and have to respect the heck out of it

  • @jernst75 I can appreciate that. It's extremely difficult for me not to love anything DMB does. His voice is so rich & powerful. I must say though, there is another version of AATW that I do truly love. Most young people would say "Who?" if you dropped the name Dave Mason. But I'm sure you remember him. If you haven't heard him do it give it a listen. It's a fantastic rendetion actually. His voice & guitarwork is dazzling. /watch?v=AdzV6rKbadY Let me know if you like it! Thanks 4 your comment!

  • what douchebags keep throwing stuff at them? they were awesome!!

  • BEAUTIFUL, MY FRIEND, I BEEN MISSING YOU, FOR LONG TIME...

  • it's not loud enough (volume at 100%)

  • THIS VERSION SUUUCKS,

  • Well that was successfully raped.

  • song makes me drip sticky

  • i'm not really into The Dave Matthews Band, but damn this is a good cover.

  • The only thing that was disappointing about this was no laugh at 1:45

  • I was smoking a j in my car the other night and this came on. Yea... thats all I have to say. Probably the best I've felt in 15 years.

  • @bruncen

    this was written before stairway.

  • @kyeno lol no , hendrix version yes , but this one not , this from 90's , stairway 70's

  • @bruncen

this chord progression is the same as dylan's version, which was written well before stairway. dont be a dumbass.

  • Just as good as Jimmy Hendricks !!!!

  • @gmonsterable hendrix lol

  • @redsoxnation3419 and jimi

  • @bruncen srsly? thats your thought?

If anything stairway to heaven has the same chords as all along the watchtower in the end, sense this song was released in 1967 by Bob Dylan and the stairway to heaven was released in 1971. Learn to appreciate.. Fucking troll..

  • @holma93 dude i didnt say 'bob dylan ' , or' hendrix" version did sound the same moron , this version troll

  • THIS ROCKS AND BEATS THE HELL OUTTA THAT HENDRIX CRAP..I AM TELLING YA...HE IS FANTASTIC............

  • @zyphia one sided opinion

  • what kind of bass is that?

  • i just jizzed

  • what a shit version

  • excellen version

  • awesome performance.. greetings from croatia..

  • Dmd sweats allot

  • Magic. Thx, David for this absolutely incredible and wonderful version.

  • He forgot the lyrics!

  • 2:39

  • Wow - this is one really interesting take on one of, what is in my opinion, one of the greatest rock songs ever made. There are as many interpretations of a piece of music as there are musicians. And the quality of interpretation lies in direct proportion to the quality of the musician. Whereas I am generally not a Dave Matthews fan, I wouldn't think of criticizing his musicianship.

  • Poser - Dude, this song sucks..

Dave Fan - Na dude, this is dave..

Poser - Oh, nevermind I like it. Can't wait for the concert next week!!!

  • Fuck yeah!

  • I really dont like Dave, but this is simply incredible

  • @Satimy i know man he gave it his all

  • Probably the best cover I have ever heard...

  • @uwmbigb well, personally i feel that Jimi's version is the best cover of this song..

  • @uwmbigb this is a cover? lol didnt know that. seems like they wrote the song. enjoy it every time. DMB brings something to live music thats hardly ever contested.

  • @uwmbigb Better than Hendrix's cover?

  • @Arren9 Compared to the original and then hendrixs, I just really like the way he switched up the delivery on this one. Same song from a completely different perspective.

  • Comment removed

  • @uwmbigb Then you propably didn't hear the Jimi Hendrix cover. xD

  • @uwmbigb ever

  • The shape of things to come

  • he sounds like aaron neville

    lolz

  • I only say this once: I was there when this song was written. And I can tell you this: the version of Dave Matthews is the best ever. What makes the difference is the singing, the violin, the sax, the drummer and the easy start, slowly exploding into a massive climax. Goosebumps everytime I listen to it. This is what every live performance should bring. Power to Dave Matthews!!!

  • una maravilla compañerxs. Abrazos.

  • lovely- but the Dylan unplugged version is defo the bestest! Amazing!

  • great cover, i prefer listening to hendrix shred though.

  • I like this one and the original version much more the jimi hendrix version...cause this is so emotional

  • @roool91

And hendrix's wasnt? You can argue all you wont about which is better I don't really care, but to say Jimi's playing wasnt emotional is just wrong on so many different levels

  • lol at the bass player at 2:40 !! xD

  • not nearly as good as hendrix

  • @CaptainP00face , thats just your opinion man!!

  • Selten so geniale Musik gehört !!!

  • Meh, doesn't match Hendrix' version.

  • @CaptainP00face

    That's for damn sure.

  • i farted wet

  • Every time when i get home after been drinking i listen to this one for 5years now =oD

  • only good song out of all woodstock 99

  • Neil Young covered it with Style and Power.

  • Listen to Michael Hedges version.

  • this is utterly awful, the singer sounds like his balls have shrunk and he has pnuemonia

  • @shaka7611 Luckily, for musicians, it's not about looks. You cannot deny that this is a very emotional version of this song and in some ways, the way this song should have been played.
