@brookeiscool3 most composers have something called a musical signature; a certain way of arranging chords and melodies that tie their pieces together somewhat.
The first lines of "When She Loved Me" from Toy Story 2, also by Newman and also Oscar-nominated, fit perfectly with the second major theme. When it goes "da-da dum dum dum da-da-da dum dum dum, sing, "When somebody loved me, everything was beautiful..."
Don't put Philip Glass and Hans Zimmer in the same category. Hans Zimmer is from the John Williams school of scoring, where he writes basically the same score over and over again, with little regard to the movie that's actually playing. Philip Glass is a God though. Randy Newman and Thomas Newman don't really have distinctive scores though. This one gets really Toy Story towards the end. I still love it though.
Philip Glass is amazing, but Hans Zimmer is fantastic as well. His scores are so epic and beautiful at the same time. Randy Newman is always so cheery lol. I would class Thomas Newman as alternative. He doesn't really follow the norm and I like that.
Funny thing, this is one of my all-time favorite movies, too, yet I've overlooked the beauty of the soundtrack. That Randy Newman, he is quite Americana with his movie scores, isn't he?
I bought this album on itune, and just for the song "mural" (2:07 to 4:08)... my god it worth the 10$. Take a good pair of headphones or a big sound sytem and play it loud! WOW
I think 3:00 to 4:00 is the most beautiful part of the song. This is my favorite movie soundtrack. It is very moving and elicits a several different emotions from the listener.
Best part if from 1:34 to around 2:00. I just love that scene in the movie where Bud shows them there is nothing to be afraid of when it rains. Just the camera angle when he raises his arms was amazing.
Watched the movie, found this, bought it. Wouldn't have found it under SOPA...
Randy Newman is great, from "Jolly coppers on parade" until "When she loved me". This guy is working at his music every day, 8 hours, and it shows.

But see? That's just the point! It can't stop at once, because it's in you, and you can't stop something that's inside you

whaa?? Thomas Newman rips himself off as much as anyone does in Hollywood and has one of the most distinctive styles in film scoring.
