  • my music listening teacher showed us this video...I fell in love! I want to see this play so badly

  • @shesakillerqueenxx Watch it for sure, I've posted a full version of it. Its quite long for a beginner though but its really funny and the music is the best ever.

  • The lecherous gestures, the obsequious grovelling, the outraged indignation, each tiny bit of characterisation is already there in music of total perfection and naturalness. Mozart was a genius of almost unparalleled dimensions.

  • OMG!!! what was Basilio doing at 2:38 ? that makes me sick...

  • Basilio is awesome!

  • Love Philip Langridge here! A loss for the oepra world he has passed away......

  • I love the way il Conte strokes the bed and laciviously licks his lips @ 0:55.

  • I love this scene so much. I actually cried laughing the first time I saw it (Opera Ireland, 2008. With maria carola and paul armin eelmann). Is there a recording of this production availible?

  • who's playing Basilio? i love his perfomance!

  • @conejamusical Philip Langridge.

  • Oh dear, this video reminded me that Philip Langridge passed away.. such an amazing singer! He will be greatly missed.

  • The best part is he isn't even pissed to see Cherubino. He just facepalms. XD

  • The best thing about the introduction of supertitles in opera is that the "unveiling" of Cherubino always gets a laugh now, in every opera house. It really is a sure-fire laugh moment, but in older performances it never gets a laugh (even in Italy!).

  • Honestly, I liked my college's production better. My friend who played Basilio was such a creep, and he's such a nice guy!!!!! And the Count was hysterical!!!!!! But this was just so beautifully done, they really can't be compared.

  • Correcting myself, This scene is perfectly constructed, the staging with the singers, beautifully blended. Thank you for posting. We don't all get a chance to see such wonderful work.

  • I really like this version, it's hilarious. Persson doesn't look exactly like I think Susanna should look, but her beautiful voice makes up for it.

You know one of these days I'd like a male Cherubino, I know it's a tradition the role is played by a woman, but it would be intresting to see.

  • It would be interesting, though Beaumarchais (the writer of the original play) wrote that the part should "only be played by a young and very pretty woman,' because no teenage male actors were subtle enough to do justice to the part. So he was played by a woman not only in the opera, but in the non-musical play.

  • You know your stuff my friend :)

According to the information at the start of my score, the first person to play Cherubino in the 'opera' was Mme. Bussani who was of course...... a woman... haha.

Ok i know that was random, don't mind me.

  • Oh my gosh, that faint was amazing--- great staging!

and Oh my gosh, Basilio!!! I know old guys who act exactly like him!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Actually, this was pretty much amazing.

  • fantastic lmao xDDD 3:50 XDDD

  • I LOVE his reaction to seeing Cherubino- instead of being mad, just like "REALLY?". This is the best gag ever.

How did Gerald Finley get so vocally sexy? mmmm!

  • @lucyliesinashes So, I'm not the only one who thinks Finley has a very sexy way of singing *grin* I just love watching this part as he and Basilio are "helping" Susanna when she faints LOL

  • Comedy.

  • Philip Langiridge is Basilio.

  • who is basilio?

  • wwoo saw this ages ago and my fave was cerubino!

  • is that philip langridge as basilio?

  • could you please post marcellina and basilio's arias please?

  • he's not erwin!!! is very good but not erwin sorry

  • This is the count's aria...not figaro's. As the discription says it's Gerald Finlay.

  • It's not an aria at all?

  • Yes. Sorry. You're right. Needless to say, the count is in this trio, not Figaro. Erwin was Figaro in this production.

  • @jetsetjordan Figaro refers to the title of the opera... and it's a trio, not an aria. (an aria would involve one person singing whereas a trio involves three)

  • @jetsetjordan what are you talking about?

  • finley is great

  • Thank you for post this splendid video!!!! It's great ;-)
