Although i miss john marston as much as the next guy, I think ;that his death was an essential part to the game. It shows the harsh reality of a criminal's ife which rockstar show in alot of games. You live the high life, get pushed into a world of insane bloodshed and then the bullet catches up with you.

John's death at the hands of Ross is a poetic end to his life. He sacrifices himself to save his family so they could lead a better life - the reason he sought redemption in the first place. By his death, he knew that Ross wouldn't persecute Abigail or Jack any longer, allowing them to start life fresh, allowing Jack the chance to grow up without the brutality and violence that shaped John's early life

I think the game's absolutly great, but if you play it the right way and don't rush it and just enjoy, you will be fed of everything the game is having, so the ending came the right time, I don't think it would be better for the game if it continued longer or had another ending. When you enjoy every little aspect Rockstar is giving you in their games you will notice that their games is enough for you to be satisfied. Sometimes things need to end, and RDR did it just the right time.
