You sir are an inspiration to us all. So happy I fell on your videos. I am on the path to go in your direction. Getting out of the system is the best answer. Actually looking at acquiring about 20 acres of land through a package offered by Public Land Title based out of Port Angeles, WA. We'll see what happens.......... : )
Hey Lamar - I went to the usawindgen website and found a 125 watt turbine for $110.00 but it didn't have the 6 blades or the red motor shield like the one you have. The blades were only 12" long also. Am I looking for the wrong thing? Your book is awesome BTW :)
I just have a very quick question... Do you have any information on getting around land ordinances in SC??? And is there a limit on how big the small cabin can be before its considered not off grid???

Also just a thought, try replacing the steel bolts, nuts, washers with nylon ones on the hub assembly. Less weight will make it spin faster with less wind.
I'm surprise Lamar didn't create one from scratch as well. Sometime buying a kit turns out less expensive than chasing down and shipping individual parts.
FYI permanent magnet motor generate electrical power when turned by another power source. Other types of electrical motors will as well, but not as simply as a PM motor.
Looks good. My 2 cents.... paint or replace those bolts and hardware with stainless if you can. Those regular ones will not last long outside and also leave rust stains all over.

@tinyhouseman
Thanks- I wouldn't recommend these small wind turbines for anything more than a trickle charger.

Nylon hardware works fine as long as it is for no load bearing or lifting.

Lamar,
How is the wind generator holding up?
Also just a thought, try replacing the steel bolts, nuts, washers with nylon ones on the hub assembly. Less weight will make it spin faster with less wind.

So far so good!
It kept my batts topped up over winter and let me run a small dc fridge. I am going to use it to run a dc fan this summer.
I will have to try the nylon bolts. Wonder about shear strength ?

Motors don't produce power, they consume it. It is a generator, fyi.

When a motor shaft is turned it produces power and is called a generator. Motors are used as generators in most wind turbines FYI

Purchased on Ebay auction from USA wind generators. Final cost was $115 with shipping. They sell for about $150 from the website.

That is very affordable. I'm going to look into getting one. Thanks for sharing!
God Bless you.
