  • yaaaawn... snoresville

  • I had the volume on the player and my computer all the way up and I still couldn't understand what you were saying. Perhaps you could re-record this or something, as the original audio is just too low for me to decipher your heavy accent.

  • Funny, the first time I heard the phrase "cognitive dissonance" was from David Icke a few months ago. Funny about the building 7 references on this video's comment section.

  • as building 7 dropped I said ... they gonna invade Iraq for this one ..... 2 h after thinking about it all I was convinced it was an Inside job and they would come up with anything to invade. I was undecided and thought they would have gone earlier and also invaded Syria at the same time .... I couldn't understand why no-one saw the followup coming and all the lies. Next US War Africa ...... wanna bet? reason UN mandate, Mexico stop oil supply in 2012.

  • @LastReplaySC

Unfortunately no one accepted to bet with you on the war in Africa. You would have won. :)

  • Back to your example of weapons of mass destruction. Are you saying that althought the inspeactors were objective, that those who sent them in felt that they knew that there were weapons of mass destruction? Are you saying that those who sent the inspectors in believed there were weapons of mass destruction, but the absence of the proof created tension / cognitive dissonance? Are you saying that instead of accepting the proof that there were no weapons, they decided to stick with their beliefs?

  • Hi D.O.S.

I did not say anything about the inspectors. I said that Bush and the US had experienced this phenomenon once they invaded Iraq and the hypothesis were wrong. The consequences of this tension were new hypothesis why they were there, that did not really convinced anybody in the world except Bush.

    Thanks for asking

  • Thank you - so you think perhaps they convinced themselves?

  • I have an example which I think it better and stronger. Like for example homosexuality. One is told it is bad by one group. We are told it is OK by another. Yet both groups condemn it in practice or at least mock it. We can not know in our heads if homosexuality is good or bad. Thus, cognitive dissonace will occur. This really will be of little impact on the individual unless that individual starts behaving homosexually in actions. Then there will be great tension.

  • It is a good example, thanks. I believe that the problem with this phenomenon is that you'll never be free of tension until you become aware and give an honest answer to your behavior or cognition.

  • Thanks for your answer. So, being aware is the key. Am I therefore right in saying that the dissonnance comes first. And then awareness comes if an explanation for the dissonance if explored and found. The awareness of course is not the solution. The solution will be - as you said - having a / or coming to an honest answer for your behaviour or cognition. Am I right in this? Then of course to either change cognition or to change behaviour.

  • don't give up
