I would say there is too much for me to list it here but you can go to my website and click on "Akita Info" which will give you a background of the breed so your family can decide whether or not it is the breed for you and try to meet some Akitas too :-) Thanks for the comment!
Yes, with dominant dog dog breeds, you cannot lose your hold on any situation - this is why the Akita is not for everyone. BUT if you can stay the Alpha of your pack, Akitas are the most giving breed of any dog we have ever owned which is why we are stuck on them :-) Thanks for the comment :-)
What she does is a testament of 2 things ...she has established herself as the Alpha (very important); and Akitas are devoted and sweet dogs. You rarely here of them attacking. They have a keen sense of "judgement" and can size up a situation. My male used to growl when we got near his bone and he was 3 mo old!My husband and I would get on the floor and take the bone gently, hold it a while and give it back. We broke him of it and showed him we were boss!
I am with my Akitas all of the time for the most part so I can catch things before they lead to a problem and secondly, my dogs are just good natured in general. I have some very laid back Akitas but I agree, we are definitely not the norm! Thanks for the comment!
