To the people who just think he is showing off, he actually taught a lot in that small time. He's trying to tell you, you need to learn every scale in every key and understand the different chords with each key. To be really good it takes A lot of memorization, if you learn the chords and scales, what he is saying will be slot easier to understand also.
I have this DVD, and when he says no no no you got it wrong 4,5,6 at around 1:24 I have to laugh each time I hear it. Another time is when he says minor limes instead of nines I have to laugh too. It just makes learning from Jamal really cool because he doesn't care about being perfect, he just wants you to learn and to teach you with passion.
he makes evrything look easy,but they not,i bought his piano dvd learn by ear vol 1.there were crazy chords,chords that will make u crazy,idk,maybe it's cause i'm an international musician,maybe that's y,i didn't get wat he was explaining.but he's a good inspiration,i got some skills from him.his talk music are krazy.he's the best.awesome.

@cooljcboy1234 hey, as for the number system and chord progression, in the key of C. if he says play the 4, then you count to the forth note in the scale of C and play the chord (which would be F) if he says play the 5 (play the G chord) and so on. he is just adding extra stuff to sound more fancy, but its the same thing

@AMBASSSIDOR How much are piano lessons? How much is an hour for piano lessons. Last I quoted the average 1-hour piano lesson was between $50 - $100 an hour. I'm giving you 4-hours, plus documentation, and a whole bunch of extras for $50.00. I would say that is a way better value then taking piano lessons and I'm giving you what a piano teacher would teach in 6-months!

how do you know which passing chord to put in which progression? like the one you just played in 3:57-4:00?.. that sounded so sweet man.. do you teach that in the dvd?

man you are so awesome! by the way, i used to have piano lessons(on notes) when i was young, but i stopped coz seriously i cant read notes.. ever since i just played through chords, i only know major triads and minors.. i really have no idea about those extended chords... i listened to a song i like, pick out the bass, and i try to play them by ear.. but whenever i hear those complicated sweet sounding jazzy chords, i say "whoah screw this, i cant play those"...
I like your feel and the style. I play the keyboards too but your feel to the chord and your scales are way ahead of me. I like your chord variation on 4 5 and 6 and transition on the Bb flat scale.

@Oreefz you need to know the difference between major and minor. For example in any key the 4 and 5 chord are major and the 6 is always major however it can be major in some instances
OMG this is wonderful!!!! I played piano from age 6 to 16 classically trained. However after overcoming a brain tumor i have forgotten everything. But God is good because I have perfect pitch in my ears!! I have been looking for tutorials to get me back playing without having to take real lessons. I have a keyboard at home. so i am extremely grateful for this thank you doll!!

man you are so awesome! by the way, i used to have piano lessons(on notes) when i was young, but i stopped coz seriously i cant read notes.. ever since i just played through chords, i only know major triads and minors.. i really have no idea about those extended chords... i listened to a song i like, pick out the bass, and i try to play them by ear.. but whenever i hear those complicated sweet sounding jazzy chords, i say "whoah screw this, i cant play those"...

I like your feel and the style. I play the keyboards too but your feel to the chord and your scales are way ahead of me. I like your chord variation on 4 5 and 6 and transition on the Bb flat scale.

@Oreefz you need to know the difference between major and minor. For example in any key the 4 and 5 chord are major and the 6 is always major however it can be major in some instances

OMG this is wonderful!!!! I played piano from age 6 to 16 classically trained. However after overcoming a brain tumor i have forgotten everything. But God is good because I have perfect pitch in my ears!! I have been looking for tutorials to get me back playing without having to take real lessons.
