  • @zanygag because just a 30 second slot of air time is expensive enough. Then, to do it 5 times over? That's just outrageous.

I don't know why this has such a small approval rating. Personally, I liked it.

  • I think its a good jingle! Why hasnt it been on tv?

  • this song kicks ass

  • Nobody likes corporations.

  • I am incredibly ambivalent about this. Well, Betty White relaunched her career with commercials...

  • I actually quite like this. And I don't get everyone saying this is weezer selling out. I don't see them doing anything they dislike in this video. and they didn't do anything half assed. This is a good jingle.

  • Lol holy crap! Weezer could could make a dog fart sound good.

  • Holy crap lol Weezer could could make a dog fart sound good.

  • I don't care why the heck people think this is so bad. Weezer were on tour- State Farm sponsored it or something- Weezer expressed interest in recording the jingle. I've never even heard of State Farm up until this moment. This is a great recording. Weezer aren't selling out, they're having a laugh.

This sounds like something akin to Blue, anytime up till Maladroit. Good for Weezer. I liked all their albums (except Raditude) and I think if their next one sounds like this, than I'm sold.

  • @teamrapturegames I hope that their next album sounds like this. If it does, I'm sold like you.

  • Lol, I actually like this song xD

    Plus..why so many dislikes? o.o

  • HIPSTERS DISLIKING.

  • if this isn't selling out, i just don't know what is.

  • @mavis311 Selling out = Going against personal belief for the acquisition of money or fame. This is not selling out, unless Rivers Cuomo has some vendetta against car insurance.

  • @KoolThing14 Thank you. Nail on the head imo.

  • Jeez, there's more soul in this cover of a jingle than there is in all of Hurley and Raditude...

  • Like a bad neighbor, State Farm is there...watching you sunbathe.

  • lol if it weren't for the lyrics, this actually sounds more like classic weezer, especially the intro and falsetto back up vocals, which reminds me...bring matt back!

  • I guess normally a band would be a sellout if they covered a commercial jingle. However this is actually a good song. Beats everything on Raditude.

  • They should rework the lyrics(state farm) and put this on the next album.

  • Why all the dislikes? :L

  • As close to their old stuff as they've been in a while if you ask me.

  • DUDE! this is cool!

  • It's okay to hate this song, haters. You are in the presence of raging, dedicated fans who are unwilling to say bad things can happen to good folk.

  • if u call them sellouts, oh my goodness jst get out of youtube then. OF COURSE THEYRE SELLOUTS ! its how they make more money and thats what they work for. think ppl before u hate

  • this sounds nothing like blue or pink.

  • @busydoinnothinn

Not the production value, but it's definitely there in the chords, and the guitar riffs. It's kind of close to green or maladroit. But that's not the point... the point is that this is 10x better than anything off raditude, hurley, and make believe (besides for maybe We're All on Drugs).

  • Did anyone think andy warhol was a sellout for painting campbell's soup cans? nope. this is really an example of taking the genre of "pop art" into the music world. bravo weezer- this is really cool.

  • it's sad this song alone is better than anyone they've put out after Raditude.

  • Don't understand the sellout accusation. They've been a mainstream band since the beginning, they've had songs in movies and commercials since the mid 90's. As a longtime fan I find this annoying (though I hate to admit the song is friggin good), but as far as weezer goes, they "sold out" since their first record.

  • 0.o More dislikes than likes? WTF!!!

  • wow weezer turned really lame sadly

  • I love that the best blue/pinkertonish song in the last 10 years was inspired by a pile of money from an insurance company.

  • @Qristofer State Farm "sponsored" that tour meaning they added money to the pile that Weezer was making from that tour.

  • @Qristofer State Farm "sponsored" that tour meaning they added money to the pile that Weezer was making from that tour. T

  • Haters gonna hate. You guys aren't seeing the "Weezer" in this song! Everything about this song from them doing it to begin with is TOTALLY weezer. Rivers Cuomo is the new King of Pop.

  • Haha this is so sick!

  • you people who say Weezer are haven't sold out are so smart and right!! I mean how could anyone call a band sell outs when they write a song for a car insurance company, let alone have that company sponsor their tour? That's just redonculous, to all you haters out there, stop trying to think so clearly, your seriously not educated or something

  • @ryandzim Barry Manilow wrote the song, not Weezer.

  • what a disgrace

  • @grasd2 If you think this is a disgrace, you must have never heard Make Believe...

  • what a joke. you weezer fans are ridiculous. you should be pissssed about this, not fawning all over this sellout band.

  • Best cover ever of one of the best commercial jingles ever!

  • Stop denying that they havent sold out. I love Weezer to death, but Ratitude was a complete joke. Red Album, really good. Ratitude, horrible. Hurley, okay. Death To False Metal, eh.

  • This actually sounds better than most of the stuff they've been releasing

  • Man alive I love weezer!

  • Weezer sold out in 1994

  • Sellouts

  • Nice - Makes me want to switch over - I have Farmers...

  • Rivers Cuomo's brain is my favourite brain.

  • ....I love this.

But it makes me feel a little dirty.

  • THIS LEGITIMATELY sounds like old school weezer, man I hope they do more things on their upcoming albums :(

  • They never stop making me laugh. So stupid it's cool.

  • the fact that the song is actually kind of good makes this even more offensive

  • You guys dont get it. The whole idea is not selling, its "who else would do this???"

Who else does shit like this? Me first and the Gimme Gimmes, maybe. Covering a commercial jingle. I was thinking of covering the theme song to that funky old Sid & Marty Kroft show Doctor Shrinker.

  • Forget about all the sellout talk... the worst thing about this is that it's the best Weezer have sounded in ten years. Just proves that if they want to, they can still do this.

  • @flaminglips123 you're goddamn right.

SO mad about that, probably more so than the fact that they did this.

  • "Being in a commercial means taking the credibility and popularity you've built up over your entire career and exchanging it for a sum of money. It means lending a corporation your halo effect; trying to slyly transfer the good will that your fans give you, the artist, over to a corporation's product."

  • best thing they've recorded in probably a decade or more. closest thing to the 'classic weezer' sound i've heard from them in years and years.

  • @duckiedeity you are completely right. Everything but the lyrics is classic weezer. They always almost get it right.

  • @duckiedeity

and its been wasted on a commercial

  • Heard more band versions of the S.F. track are in the works. Bring on the Juggalo!!!

  • I think it sounds pretty good considering that it wasn't a rock song to begin with. I'm sure it would sound even better had they rewritten the lyrics.

  • Why do people hate this because it sounds like the beloved Pinkerton. Sure its a jingle, but its got a good sound. If they could get this sound on a CD Weezer would not break my heart.

  • if u think about the sound of this song, Some people say this is sadly better than anything the released in the past few years.

  • i kinda like the music. sorta pinkerton-esque, but why state farm?

  • idk whay there is haters. state farm asked weezer to record this song and weezer accepted because they are sponsoring their memories tour. its not like weezer wrote it and btw rivers is on guitar again and pat is on drums. stop complaining.

  • i HATE the fact that i SPECIFICALLY sought out this song... just because of how catchy and weezer-esque in sound it is.

    ijsgipdhsg

i read a post that was a very good point, the guy basically said that it's as if weezer remembered how to be sad again.

i think they remembered on this song because they were sad that they were SELLOUTS.

  • Cringe

  • weezer died when that red album came out. even before that they werent even that good

  • When asked why he'd made a tv commercial for the Polaroid SX-70 camera back in 1972, great stage and screen actor Laurence Olivier said something like "it's a job."

  • this is actually pretty decent. aside from the lyrics, this could fit in pretty well on one of their albums. I'd much rather hear the cool Weezer version of this jingle than the annoying smooth version they use in commercials. This is way better

  • @phillyclaude the music might as well have been an outtake from the Blue Album. straight up.

  • People ... they have to pay bills as well ...

  • At least it sounds pretty good

  • i want to die

  • Someone should do an entire album of full-length Barry Manilow jingles.

  • so, when they do the Weezer movie, Jason Schwartzman as Rivers?

  • This song is pretty catchy. Why all the hate?

  • @phisaki

the hate is that this song is being used for a advertisement for state farm

  • If you're gonna put a song in a commercial, you don't put your face in it and do a video or jingle. You let them use one of your awesome songs you wrote prior and you don't show your face for the company. It makes for free promotion and gets people buzzing about your sick song.

    Shame Weezer.

  • State Farm sponsored the "Memories" tour, and a younger fan like me would never have been able to see "Blue" and "Pinkerton" played in their entirety if that tour hadn't come together. Even besides that, the song rocks- I'd rather this than someone shitty recording the song. Haters, get out.

  • @Qriztofer are you kidding? Weezer could self sponsor a tour and charge ten dollars a ticket and still clear 10,000 each every show, but they won't ecause...THEY ARE SELL OUTS...AND SUCK TO BEGIN WITH...THIS IS A COMMERCIAL ABOUT CAR INSURANCE, HOW MUCH MORE COULD THEY SELL OUT?...MAYBE WRITE A SONG ABOUT BEING SELL OUTS AND HAVE CELL PHONE, CAR INSURANCE, CHASE BANK AND EXXON SPONSOR IT? but i bet even then you would defend it bc you are hopeless

  • @ryandzim cant tell if trolling or just really stupid

  • WHY?

  • really?

  • Is George Clooney for doing a voice over for a beer commercial? Because he does. I have no problem with this and dont think they are a sell out. Rather hear weezer sing the jingle than whoever else previously did it before.

  • This is more punk than any band mimicking a band mimicking a band mimicking a band that mimicked a band thirty years ago ever will be. :P

  • THIS SO GOOD

  • lol

  • Better than Justin Bieber.

  • I hope Weezer was paid well.

  • I'm trying to convince myself that the black and white takes the edge off the disgusting selling out??

  • why is everyone hating on this?

  • I doubt they have statefarm anyway

  • I can't believe people are hating Weezer on here. This is awesome. Not necessarily from a musical perspective, but from a comedic one. Weezer isn't so serious that they can't have a little fun and risk backlash from shallow haters. I respect them for that, and its exactly the kind of thing I'd do if I had their talent and opportunity.

  • @skatchmo Yea, I totally agree. I think this is pretty silly and entertaining, probably well intended to be so.

  • well guys, i just got off the phone with my old state farm agent. and now i'm on the phone with my new allstate agent!

  • If you guys hate Weezer so much nowadays, why bother watching this and commenting. There are plenty of things in the world for you to enjoy so stop wasting your life being angry and go be happy. Stop listening to them and find something you do enjoy. Oh, and stop trying to bring down people who still find wonder in their music.

On a side note, man I feel old when I realize I've been a Weezer for for over 16 years.

  • Just too awesome that they could take a tired old advertising jingle and rock it out this way. Makes me rethink my image of both Weezer and State Farm. I never even knew the jingle had verses... who knew?

  • "Would you like to report this video as inappropriate?" Yep!

  • I'm absolutely tired of you guys calling Weezer sell-outs. I mean, before even stating a time of claim like that, don't you think you should do research? This song was made after Weezer asked whether or not the jingle, "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there.", was actually a full song. State Farm said it was, and it was actually written by Barry Manilow. Weezer saw the sheet music and lyrics and decided to do something with it. This was done more out of fun than profit. DO RESEARCH! =w=

  • @RaysFan924 oooh yes because it's so fun and we love our insurance companies so much that we are gonna sing a corporate jingle for fun because we're not getting paid to do it

  • @RaysFan924 Four words for you, bro. "I Can't Stop Partying."

  • Despite the fact that they're singing the god damn State Farm theme, I think this a return to the classic Weezer sound. They should get back to making quality music with this same Blue/Pinkerton sound.

  • They must be stopped.

  • Remember when weezer had integrity? Me neither.

Remember when weezer had a lot of money? Right now.

  • Just a god awful pathetic effort and choice by a decidedly overrated band.

  • its funny coz this is actually good.

  • lol@ weezer being indie

  • I dont look at it as a complete sell out. I mean sure its a state farm ad but hopefully there next album will sound like this. Just without the state farm lyrics.

  • OMFG. please NO!!!!!

  • this is the best recording weezer has done since velouria. it doesn't matter that's it's the ultimate sell-out.

  • What the bloody hell???

  • ok i realise that this makes weezer sell outs, but seriously guys, i really like weezer, and there is no doubt that this is classic weezer, and i think it sounds great. i think this would only be bad if it was completely different to what they usually play

  • I'm a pretty decent Weezer fan. Am I the only one that likes this? :|

  • i cannot WAIT to hear them do this song live!! I am SO goin in the pit for this one!!

  • All about the Benjamins...wonder how many the band got?

  • The dream of the 90s is dead. Long live the dream.

  • lol wtf, people are hating on this too, this songs wicked! there's just no pleasing some people!

  • Does no one remember that they actually had 3 legitimate mainstream hits on the Blue Album? In the mid 90's they were all over the damn place, for god's sake, the Buddy Holly video came with Windows 98! All of you pretentious "indie" people should really do your research. Sellout?! Really?! They didn't have time to be "indie", as you put it, it's all just a bunch of crap that the elitist made up so they could jump on the weezer bandwagon after they made a comeback.

  • I really hope they did this as a joke.

  • Proof that Weezer always always sucked. Re-visit the early hits. You'll see what I mean.

  • Brian Bell and I graduated from the same high school, we can all at least like that yeah?

  • For everyone saying that this is "a new level" and that they have been "all down hill".....the song is supposed to be funny...it's a joke...please lighten up. A band that has created a partnership with State Farm in order to make a few kids' ultimate wish come true is fine by me. I'm a Weezer fan, not an overcritical, cynical, hypocrite who thinks every band that tries to do something for their fans via a commercial enterprise is "selling out".

GO WEEZER NEXT ALBUM WILL BE A BIG ONE!

  • In comparison to their past few albums, I say bring on the marketing tie in songs. Especially if they're about this good. No, really.

  • Anyone saying that they are going downhill or that this is a "new level" for the band .....your morons....this song was for fun...a joke song...they have teamed up with State Farm for a "make-a-wish foundation" type initiative. The upcoming album will be a massive one!

  • i think were all missing the point, the melody is way better than anything they've made within the past 10 or so years

  • Rivers hasn't exhibited an ounce of sincerity in 15 years. Move on people.

  • funny thing is this is the best weezer song musically in a very long time...seriously

  • Wow. Times are tough and I don't slag anyone for doing what they can to get by, but I hope they got a butt-load of money. Granted, it's the best rendition I've ever heard of the State Farm jingle, but really, what is THAT saying?

  • Give them a break, State Farm sponsored the entire memories tour -- you can't expect them to get such big corporate sponsorship without them asking for a little something in return, can you?

  • Maybe if people still bought albums bands wouldn't have to resort to such things.

  • Weezer say it ain't so

  • sounds awesome. best melody i've heard rivers sing since pinkerton.

  • win

  • gross

  • Beverly Hills - so bad its bad.

This song - so bad its good.

I'm sure no one will I agree with me, but I kinda love this. It's sooo ridiculous how could you not?

  • Weezer,

    I officially hate you.

  • Besides the fact that this is a jingle, this is far more aesthetically pleasing than Weezer's last 2 albums

  • gotta get paid somehow. If you have ever downloaded an album from the internet for free, you cannot complain about bands doing this.

  • Weezer: Say it ain't so!

  • Looks like State Farm's web manager got in this morning, had a coffee, read the paper, and got to work taking down the best comments (i.e. the most real ones. aka the most negative ones). I wonder if they'll even approve this comment. Hey State Farm: this ain't China.

  • Further proof that it's been all down hill since Matt Sharp left the band.

  • @stusvend except he had nothing to do with the songs, nice try though.

  • @stusvend Oh come on, why don't people just give Matt up! How do you have ANY IDEA that Matt woundt do this too! He was cool and all, and probably the best bassist Weezer had, but still! Do you know where Matt is today? No, nor does anyone else, because he is a nobody! And this is an amazing rendition of the State Farm Jingle, sort of sounds pinkerton-ish, and if this sound dosent sound good to you, the I dont think Weezer can do any thing to win you back. Weezer dosent need Matt Sharp.....

  • @stusvend

nah, green album was good and maladroit is even better in my opinion ... weezers most underrated album but sionce then yeah downhill untill hurley which was ok

  • @stusvend which was Matt?

  • @stusvend

How come no one ever points out that Matt Sharp hasn't made a good record Matt Sharp left Weezer?

  • @JokesPresentation

except he did. it was called seven more minutes.

  • @nonstopdavey

Whaaaa?!?! Seven More Minutes was WEAK... Compared to 'Return of the Rentals'.... Compared to Weezer post-Pinkerton, sure.....

  • @DaSuperFunk

2 weeks ago this was published? How long is the approval process?!? MUST PROTECT EGOS!

  • This makes "Beverly Hills" look like a work of art.

  • Weezer can make any song or jingle awesome

  • Ah Yeah Weezer Number 1

  • Being a Weezer fan, I'm used to embarrassment. But this is a new level. I mean, come on guys.

  • @ohcalcutta81 I totally agree.

  • @ohcalcutta81

Why? If State Farm is at least a little obviously cool, I'll check out their prices at least. Why not

  • @ohcalcutta81 They probably sed why no. i mean they are getting paid:)

  • @ohcalcutta81 This could be a middle finger to all who have different views of selling out........I believe this may be considered brilliant......only people who enjoy thier "sound" will even pay attention.....others will find it offensive......hence.....artistic!

  • @ohcalcutta81 It's a good tune regardless of the lyrics.

  • I would totally write a million songs for state farm if they paid me to. Doesn't matter how famous you are, money is awesome to have.

  • if anyone remembers, weezer used to do bits of commercial theme music (Chief Auto Parts song) in their sets regularly in the late 90's - this is not out of character for them and not selling out in my opinion.

  • @brokenmotu you are so right!

  • Sadly weezer's best since Pinkerton. Weezer sold out? They released a line of clothes with brand Hurley after releasing their album "Hurley". It's about the music, man.

  • I dont know whether to absolutely love this or hate it completely.

  • What a waste of a studio.

  • As a Weezer fan, I'm used to embarrassment, but this may just take the cake.

  • Like a good sellout, Weezer is there

  • this sounds more green album than pinkerton

  • @tuleli Except all the guitar riffs don't just mimic the lyrics. So it really doesn't at all.
