Ted Koppel did more to damage race relations in this country than anyone in the history of broadcasting. For over two-decades, Koppel used the vast power of his Nightline show to drill into millions of minds that Caucasians, especially males, are the absolute scum-of-the-earth!
He especially worked on blacks with his campaign of slamming Caucasians, hence we now have a black-on-white crime epidemic that's off the charts!

i hate the way he shows China. He is saying that the united states became rich in the same way as Chine is doing it right now. Well, that is in fact a BIG lie, china has not attacked any adversary, it has not created monopolies and made coutries open trade barries while keeping protectionism inside. If americans wanted cheap products then you must pay the price of globalization. Chinese people don't steal YOUR jobs, the CEOs of corporations from your coutry decide to move your jobs overseas

The Peoples Republic of Capitalism is an unprecedented documentary.There is a ton of critique.I am not offended because the critiques make sense.Ted Koppel shows great scholarly intelligence.Many politicians, including Obama,lack it!I enjoy Teds objectiveness and his sage to comprehend an alien culture.I laughed when a female Chongqing official bitchily reacted to criticism.She is a left-over of the inefficient socialist past.I wish the series could have been longer.I waited in futile on Sunday.
uvgarden, if you think Ted Koppel showed objectiveness in this documentary, you need to do some research. There were many factually incorrect statements, and a very liberal use of propaganda techinques. I detailed a few of the more blatant ones in my other posts. Many of the propaganda techniques he used were quite subtle, but some are so blatant they are almost laughable. Study up on propaganda techniques and then rewatch the program. It will make a big difference.
At one point, they are talking with an American woman that lost her job. Koppel says "what do you say to someone caught in the backwash of the global economy?" It then cuts to a Chinese classroom where the teacher says "you might want to try hiking." I guess that is the polite way Chinese people tell someone to "take a hike." The intention here is to make Americans think Chinese are unsympathetic to the plight of poor Americans. This is not journalism, it is subtle well-crafted propaganda.
I'm very disappointed in Ted Koppel. I had high hopes for this program, but it is riddled with half-truths and outright lies. Ted Koppel said the Roman Catholic Church is illegal in China...that's not true. He also said China has "every disease known to mankind." Also not true. He said there are over 10,000 protests and demonstrations in China each year. That is true, but he later says the Chinese are not allowed to protest. That contradicts his previous statement. Pathetic!
I'd have to disagree. I have friends here in china who have to preach underground, because the gov. allows some churches, but they are strictly controlled and arent allowed to speak freely.
soulcoughing, I'm not saying there are not underground churches in China, I'm just saying that Ted Koppel's statement that "the Roman Catholic Church is illegal in China" is a lie. There is an underground group that calls itself the Roman Catholic Church, but the "official" church is now in communion with Rome. Here in the US, even fringe groups like the FLDS are registered with the government. If you operate a church in the US that is not registered with the IRS...look out.
nartin86, church revenue in the US is tax free if you are a registered religious organization with the IRS. If you are not a registered 501(c)(3) organization you have to pay taxes. If your "church" is not registered, you are looking for trouble. A "church" could be run as a regular business or the leader can file taxes as an individual. In either case you have to pay taxes. Running an "underground" church is not allowed in the US.

This ad should definitely be a wake up call to America:
1) Showing the guy in China saying "Everything is about making money."
2) When the guy said "America has to figure out what they want to do here."
3) Showing the bumper sticker that says "Out of a Job Yet? Keep Buying Foreign Products!"
