Unless you plan on moving, then what does one care about the change in the paper value of the property? The utility remains the same. If anything, the lowering of the property value will save you in real estate taxes. So I propose you write your neighbors a thank you note for owning ugly houses.

If one is concerned that neighbors will do something to make their property values go down, maybe they should buy more property and build a wall around it. It seems to me the only people happy with a homeowners' association are the people that everyone else thinks is a pain. I'll always do my best to avoid them... the homeowners' associations...
