Nice - "high density" housing that minimizes the footprint on the land is bad but rich people sprawling out over tens of acres each and fragmenting wildlife habitat "preserves" rural lands. If we all sprawled out like Redford there would be no more open spaces and wilderness left.
It might minimize the footprint but it maximizes the environmental impact. When you have 12 people per acre, you're going to create more waste than the land can support. Furthermore, high-density housing does more to fragment and interrupt wildlife habitat than low density housing sprawling over tens of acres. Those sprawling acres are there mostly as a buffer between neighbors and are left in as natural a state as possible.
I'm sure it irks you that rich people are environmentalists too.

I'd like to see the plans for this "eco village". The developer's website doesn't have much to say about it except that it plans "275 housing units and a 105-unit retirement/assisted living center on 30.1 acres of new development". I mean it's awfully coy to call that an "eco village" when it's actually high-density housing. Of course this isn't covered in this short film.
Like it or not, large, expensive homes do more to preserve "the rural heritage" of an area than high-density housing does.

and again, if the government forced policies that limit the supply of course prices will rise. supply and demand dictates prices. OPEC reduces supply to keep prices high. Our government restricts exploration here which increases prices. as for the economy. democrats ran congress from '06-'10. how has that worked out? look at the official unemployment numbers from 2000- 2006 and then from 2006-2010 when dems ran congress and tell me who is to blame for high unemployment.

Nice - "high density" housing that minimizes the footprint on the land is bad but rich people sprawling out over tens of acres each and fragmenting wildlife habitat "preserves" rural lands. If we all sprawled out like Redford there would be no more open spaces and wilderness left.

It might minimize the footprint but it maximizes the environmental impact. When you have 12 people per acre, you're going to create more waste than the land can support. Furthermore, high-density housing does more to fragment and interrupt wildlife habitat than low density housing sprawling over tens of acres. Those sprawling acres are there mostly as a buffer between neighbors and are left in as natural a state as possible.
I'm sure it irks you that rich people are environmentalists too.

I'd like to see the plans for this "eco village". The developer's website doesn't have much to say about it except that it plans "275 housing units and a 105-unit retirement/assisted living center on 30.1 acres of new development". I mean it's awfully coy to call that an "eco village" when it's actually high-density housing. Of course this isn't covered in this short film.
Like it or not, large, expensive homes do more to preserve "the rural heritage" of an area than high-density housing does.

@diiyo So, with income redistribution, we, the minions would also be eco conscious and have 100 acre pads? The elite conservationists can have it all and put the screws to us. Tell us how to live, walk instead of drive, what to eat, which health care to have, what vehicles to drive (if we must drive) etc?
I believe that they are hyprocrits and when they talk of income redistribution, it's not THEIR income that they want to redistribute!

@mcknzia: I think you're a little confused. Rich conservationists act to preserve the environment because it's a thing of beauty and essential to a life worth living on earth. Unlike you minion conservationists though, they don't tell you how you should live your lives. They put their own money where their mouths are and actually preserve the environment. You people on the other hand, picket yourselves hoarse trying to force others to create a utopia where you can live without being productive.

You mean 'Rich environmentalists' like Prince Charles who travels around around the world on a 200-foot yacht preaching a 'Low-Carbon Lifestyle' to Third World peasants who already spend 50% of their meager incomes on food, the other 50% on energy, and are being asked to forego plentiful, reliable coal-powered electricity desperately needed by their families NOW......to massage the ego of self-centered environmentalist ideologues who fantasize about unaffordable solar panels and windmills ?
