I love Hugh Jackman!! He can make you cry and laugh at the same time!! Such diversity, such a talent!! And yes, his talent IS God given!! I pray he's around for many more years to come.
But in all seriousness, why don't more people know how good of a singer he is? The world should know these things, just like how Viggo Mortensen is a painter whose works are displayed in gallieries?
@cruisereevesbarnesXD The best performers always do. Look at Gene Kelly, he was the greatest dancer of the MGM Classics, maybe the in the world, and he always made it look esay and fun. I just wish Icould get this show on DVD.
For those of you, like me, who missed the play, this might help: find and print the song list. YouTube will not allow me to print the link in this comment, but you can find it on the idbd.com site - Boy From Oz.. Then, watch the video for each song, in the order it is listed. It's a lot better than nothing. It was worth it for me. All you need is a little background knowledge about the characters.
I saw and met Peter Allen many times and he was one of my favourite people..Seeing Hugh Jackman do this show was a perfect tribute to Peter.... I love Hugh and have met him several times...two great talents....
Ceterababe I thought I was number one fan I saw it five times .. This play touched my heart and soul.. How do you thank a man who is dead rip Peter I hope Hugh touched you like he did me playing you. :( when I see all the video and play my cd I think wow not many words just wow.. I also hope Peter likes what we do for at my church.. I hope there is a place were all day we can hear music like this.. The kind that touches every part of our beings..
Hugh is absolutely amazing in this performance!! but...was off key...but I guess that doesn't really matter cause he is just such a fantastic performer and he is amazing and has an INCREDIBLE voice and there is really no one like him and I applaud him!! BRAVO HUGH!!! FANTASTIC PERFORMANMCE!!! <3
9 seconds of shock and awe...that's how long it took the audience to breathe, then clap, cheer and stand before the ovation. 9 seconds. NICE. And I was there...
That ovation... it must be so breathtaking and mind blowing to be up there while the audiences go mad for your incredible performance. What a feeling could that be...
Yes, Hugh DID just get a Standing Ovation... I saw this show 4 times while it was on Broadway, and each time it happened EXACTLY like this, though I think the pause between the song ending and the applause was longer... It is just that kind of a song!
Hugh Jackman trained at the Western Australian Academy of the Performing Arts in Perth, Australia. He went on to perform "Gaston" in Australia's production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and Joe Gillis in Sunset BLVD.
o m g did he just get a standing ovation and it wasnt even the finale number!!! wow that show just how amazing this mans talent is!!! that was truly outstanding!!!
people who went to see this musical several times have said that he got a standing ovation after this number in every show. must have been amazing to see this live.
Hugh's performances were absolutely incredible with each show. No one else could play this part ...It was made for Hugh. And, he never missed a show, not once. That's a tough gig to do when you are on stage in every scene for 8 shows a week. Just an INCREDIBLE, INCREDIBLE performance. BRAVO, HUGH!
Well i think it doesn't make you gay if you're a man and like musicals. There is so much trash on TV now that this is such great entertainment. To see Hugh Jackman in this role, transformed right before my eyes, is so great. He has a great voice. I never saw any of this until i saw these clips, and now i wish I could have seen it for real. Bravo, Hugh! You did a great job!
In this song, "Once Before I Go", Peter knows he is dying and is saying his last goodbyes. The young boy is the "young Peter" in the play, full of life. The older Peter is looking back, reflecting on his life thru the kids eyes -still eager to live, yet, at the same time, is realizing he is dying. In the next scene, "I Go to Rio", everything on the stage is white, and it gives the impression that Peter is in heaven having a grand time and always will. There is no actual "death" scene.
phony? im sorry i dont like people singing at me on stage. its cheesy. how does that make me a phony? i prefer standing in front of a dj, or even a band. but i find musicals.. cheesy. thats all. STOP SPREADING THE STEREO TYPE DUDE!
Hey, lighten up, dude. It was a joke. I apologize. I had so idea you'd think I was serious. I was playing on the stereotype that all gay men like musicals. If you don't like musicals you have to turn in your gay union card and give up being gay. It's OK not to like musicals. OK?
pfft sorry man. cant believe that flew right by me. gay union card how didnt i laugh at that lol. i think its cuz iv put up with so many stiffs on this site, shit iv become one too. Cheers
it's a media read of a preview. they muted the sound deliberately, that's why you couldn't hear it in the beginning. people were giving him a standing ovation, after all..

haa, finally i found out (it was bugging me for some days...) the beginning of that number reminds me of the movie "beyond the sea" with kevin spacey, there is a similar scene in the end.
HUGH is doing soo great, i would love to see this on dvd, i mean, the material is existing... are they going to lock it away for forever? (or even worse: destroy it...)

he says he gets sick...with what? Does he die at the end of the musical?
jo123phoebe 2 years ago
Peter Allen died of AIDS at a young age. I believe in the musical, his death is only implied in this scene, then finishes with the Rio number.
Someone who saw the whole show can confirm this?
jjviolet33 2 years ago
The very first of so many to die from this horrific disease.
Peter Allan left us way to soon.
When He left us it was forever and we all still miss him.
The stage was left dark and cold and yet thanks to shows and c.d.s we still have him to listen to and miss.
Wherever you are Peter know we the fans still miss you and love you all these years later.
God bless and protect you wherever you may be.
Still listening to the music and remembering you a true loving fan.
