  • The best and most heartbreaking score of Andrew Lloyd Webber's. Glenn Glose did it proud

  • Always liked her as an actress, but cannot get over the fact, she simply cannot sing. The score is low and her singing... well and that takes so much out of Norma. I wish I could like this and I am happy so many do, but I can't lie. Not for me.

  • She is a genius. God, I wish this Woman knew how much I adore her.

  • Excellently acted. But I prefer Betty for voice and acting combined. Patti comes third and Elaine Paige fourth. This must ne die a comeback surely.

  • Man, I can watch her in this role over and over!!!! Thanks SO MUCH!!!! LOVE IT

  • What amazing quality! Very impressive, thanks so much for sharing. I love all the Normas, but especially Glenn's delivery of this song.

  • Diahann Carroll nailed this part also , and voiced it the best , Miss Carroll - played it more regal like Gloria Swanson.

  • This is a real master class! Glenn is a theatre actress turned screen actress - she's learned how to work for an intense inner focus in front of the camera and knows about the energy it takes to fill a stage. Here she perfectly blends both worlds leaving us with a spellbinding performance that makes it impossible to take your eyes off her for even a split second. I bow to you Miss Close.

  • Great Norma

  • Fantastic -Glenn Close is my number one favourite as Norma :D Amazing!

  • Just AMAZING!!!!!

  • The downside to this show was that the role was so HUGE, that only a few actresses could nail it. Glenn was, in my opinion, the best Norma I saw. Betty was a very close second. That being said, I think this was ALW's best musical score since Phantom.

  • @pimpdaddyg There was only one other score between Phantom and Sunset so saying this was the best score since Phantom doesn't really mean much!!!

What's with the phony English accent?

  • @edirne1972 I think you took that comment the wrong way. What I'm saying is that Phantom is his best score, and Sunset is 2nd best, in my opinion.

  • @edirne1972 I think you took that comment the wrong way. What I'm saying is that Phantom is his best score, and Sunset is 2nd best, in my opinion. Whose accent are you referring to?

  • @pimpdaddyg Close. Why sing Norma with a fake british accent?

  • @edirne1972 It's not a fake British Accent. She's using a Standard American dialect. Listen to Gloria Swanson, she speaks the same way. Most film stars from that era spoke with a Standard American or Trans-Atlantic dialect. It can sound British because there are similarities--dropped "r" sound at the end of words, rounder vowels, etc.

  • @edirne1972 It’s not a fake British accent. What Glenn Close affects is an accent called “mid-Atlantic”, very commonly heard in older Hollywood movies featuring the likes of Katherine Hepburn. It is a true American regional accent more commonly heard on the east coast amongst people of the upper classes, and more commonly heard during an earlier era.

  • Really incredible. I love Glenn Close -- She and Betty Buckley are my fav Normas.

  • I cry every time.

  • Ahhh, okay! I thought I missed she plays it again :)

  • Amazing!!! But why "NEW performance"?

  • new as in i've never seen it surface before until stan discovered it..thanks stan!

  • Huzzah! Thank you!

  • Please keep posting these! They're beautiful. Any chance you could post the final sequence?
