We hope the videos help those working in the food service industry to understand how important handwashing is. One should always err on the side of washing hands more often than less, even if you're wearing gloves. In our state food service workers cannot handle ready-to-eat foods with bare hands. We believe this has reduced the incidence of foodborne illness. In other words, we all win!
I never knew how many times you should wach your hands. I only wash my hands when I go to the tiolet, made contact with animals, getting my hands dirty or when my finger get greasy when I touch my face.
Watching these videos for my nutrition class. I did catch the turning the faucet off with his hands after watching, but that's only because Proctor & Gamble almost wrote me up for it before. Sad to say but most of the people who'll willingly watch these videos aren't the people that need them most. Good job on the videos though.
Thanks for your comments. Yes, we realized after we produced the videos that there were a couple little things we missed - like turning the water off with hands instead of a towel, and the chef is also wearing a ring. Whoops! Still, we feel the main thrust of the message is handwashing, and that still comes across pretty well.
Thanks for watching and please share the link to these videos with others.
Anyone interested in food hygiene issues may wish to see our clips at encentre. Currently there are clips on pest control but hygiene and HACCP coming soon.
Good Info,but, unfort. they did the hand washing wrong,, After you finish washing,,use a single use towel to turn off the non sterile faucet... discard,,.. then use a second towel to dry your hands....other than that omission good video,
Interesting and Harold is not an extreme example at all sadly. I work at a major grocery chain alone overnight and I make salads and fruitbowls. The manager knows we can be shutdown at anytime. Yet she preaches gloves etc. I do the best I can and am cleaner than the daystaff. I take pride in my job but need the money so I dont dare report. I wish I could but my union and manager ignore other safety issues so I know the result I will get. Many other stores have violations I checked it out. Sick.
Thanks for commenting on our video. It is sad that sometimes the system works agains the better interests of public health. We're glad to hear that you, at least, are taking food safety seriously. Keep up the good work and share the links to these videos with others.
Yes, technically you are correct. We realized this after the production was completed, but rather than go through the expense of re-shooting everything opted to leave the segment in, hoping that simply encouraging food handlers to wash their hands would eliminate most of the problems. The glass is more than half-full.
Thanks for viewing our videos and please share them with others.
The ugly thing is that the dramatization at the end of this clip IS typical of restaurant cooks and other helpers. They are filthy and don't care about their customers. In fact they are HAPPY to infect the customers because they feel that they aren't getting a fair shake in the world. Maggots.
you have no idea how these videos help me with my work right now..super thank you..:)

lack of food safety can also result in lawsuits from patron who have fallen ill from the food. :(

hey Dave
in my opinion the food handler should not wear any accessorise like ring or watch
he wash his hands but without removing the ring and the watch and that is wrong
thank =)
