Ha! I didn't even notice how old it was. I'm just a big Waylon fan and like to read these comments sometimes to see how he's touched people in various ways. And yes, you're right. As the story goes, his kicking the coke led to his diabetes diagnose (as he started eating like a horse to deal with the withdrawals), which led to his death. So in a way, you could say the cocaine killed him--20 years after he stopped using it. Sad.
i was 13 when i first heard this song and thats when i decided i want to play guitar now im 22 and play just bout everyoone of ol hoss's songs. wish there were 10 more like ya waylon
I sing this song to my wife all the time (this and Good Hearted Woman). She's fit for royalty and she chose to marry an ornery ass SE Missouri boy like myself?
A true Singer/Songwriter. One that will never be forgotten & is sadly missed by all. Hope you are playing in the Honky-Tonk Bars up there, raisin' hell!!
I've listened to him for 38 years and I love the old CW singers. They had the real life experience and if it meant drugs, booze, and lots of women; so be it.
Waylon did a great cover of this wonderful song written by Don Williams. Just one of many top-ten hits Don wrote. He's semi-retired now (not touring anymore). Thanks for sharing Tuks!!! Mark
HE SURE HAS!!!! From "Catfish John" for Johnny Russell, to "Don't Close Your Eyes" for Keith Whitley, to "Everything That Glitters", "They Rage On", and "Big Wheels in The Moonlight" by Dan Seals, "Song Of The South" by Alabama, "Baby's Got Her Bluejeans On" by Mel McDaniel, to a bunch more Don Williams songs, like "I've been Loved By the Best" and "Good Ol' Boys Like Me", A cowrite on Alan Jackson's, "Gone Country". There are a lot more,,,,,,,,too numerous to mention here.
Just a minor correction. Don Williams didn't write this song. It was written By Bob McDill and originally recorded by Don Williams. But Waylon did have the bigger hit with it. Went straight to #1!!
Love this song .. He's the best

@spoildn8410 Waylon hardly ever drank. He did coke instead! It's in his autobiography.

It is hard to live around someone who has kicked something, no matter what
it is.
