DOMA, signed by President Clinton in 1996, protects states from having to recognize same-sex marriages contracted in other states.
If DOMA were repealed, every state in the nation would be required to recognize the same-sex marriages contracted in Massachusetts and California.
"Unlike Senator Clinton, I support the complete repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)-a position I have held since before arriving in the U.S. Senate," Obama wrote.
Weddingin99, thank you for reminding me that in this election, Obama truly is the moral and more patriotic voting option. Supporting the fellow does help me sleep better.
According to statements made by the candidates and their campaigns, however, the candidate's views are not the same.
In an open letter to the "lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual" (LGBT) community that was posted on Obama's official campaign website on February 28, 2008, Obama wrote that he unequivocally favors completely repealing the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).
It will become a crime to speak out against the ungodly acts in which God has spoken out against through His Word. Even in our churches.
Just as those of the new testament church were being persecuted and sent to prison for their beliefs on Christ and His church, so we also, even if preaching in our own congregations, will soon face the same.
But no matter who becomes president I must obey God rather than man!
I'm going to leave your comment right where it is as a reminder that so many still suffer from a terrible disease with the following symptom cluster: idiocy, hostility, and most of all pure ignorance. The cause of this disease is brainwashing and lack of exposure to diversity.
For the record, I'm 100% heterosexual. Always have been. And that was no more a "choice" I made than it is for people who aren't.
and really mccain has changed his views and his opinions the last 2 years and in this campaign every second hour. and they have promised about the same amount of change, just sad that the fundamentals and the core of mccain's policies is the same as bush's were. i can understand why you can get a little afraid if he said he was gonna fine you if you couldent pay for employs healthcare, but that isnt the truth. he is gonna fine those who CAN but dosnt give there employs healthcare.
To me, it's a moral issue. A *big* moral issue. I know too many who cannot afford health insurance, or have health insurance will lousy coverage, and thus don't get health care they sorely need. It's an awful situation for them. Incredible amounts of suffering and loss result.
This, in a country as advanced as ours, is no less than obscene. Agreed, the cost of covering all will presumably be high. But is America a land of decency or isn't it?
i can understand if you are as greedy as you look that you are sad that obama is gonna raise your taxes to save the country, in your mind coming up whit plans that are gonna cost billions of dollars but no explanation to where one will get the money like mccain has done is so much better then obama that has a good plan to make the economy in the country go again
so go out and vote for mccain if you want, just remember that even the rich will have hard times whit another 4 years of bush politics
We are up poop's creek without a paddle any way you look at it. What we haveto do is stop the spending and reform the institutions of government. McCain atleast doesn't want to keep spending what WE DON'T HAVE. It's called living within our means. The generosity of the American People has ended. It's just the way it is now.
cmcil: if that was what he really will do and what he ''can'' do then i wouldent be a supporter of obama, because he cant, and both candidates are going to reform, obama has just also said that we have to spend to ''PAY'' for all those plans that both mccain and obama has made, and obama is hte only one who has explained how he is gonna pay for it, were mccain yet has to tell how he is gonna keep his promises whitout money, its not gonna repair itself whitout money.
We own a small business and make under $200k. At first he was stating that with his healthcare program "all" businesses will be required to pay for their employee's healthcare. In the last debate he changed his tune to accomodate all of the small business owners who were worried and thought about voting McCain for that reason. He is saying whatever he needs to say to get elected. I understand it takes money to change things but at what cost?
no he didnt, mccain's campaign brought that up, and he never clearly said if he was gonan fine every company that couldnet get healthcare to there employs, and in this last debate he really shock mccain, remember mccain himself got suprised and couldent say anything against obama's argument, cause of COURSE should companies that has the money to get there employs healthcare do it, if not they will get fined, but hte small businesses wont get fined, that also makes most sense to me.
I wonder what Obama considers "small business."In Ma we are right now required to provide health insurance if we have ten or more employees. This is one of many reasons why we are trying to sell and move out of state because of the govt mandating you to spend money that you don't have. Do you really think the govt should dictate our Healthcare.Look at Canada and Scotland, their healthcare is a total failure and the working class people are the ones who end up paying for it in the long run.
he considers small business all companies or business that earn less then the $250K wont have there taxes raised one bit, as for the healthcare you are wrong, Canada has had very big succes whit the goverment in control, as it have here in denmark where the goverment also controls the healthcare, and you know what? we in denmark has the best healtcare program in the world, so just because goverment controlled healthcare has failed before you are afraid they will make another try?
I don't know if you realize it, but here in the US we are already short on Doctors. Wages are low in Canada for Doctors which has resulted in a doctor shortage, there are only 2.1 physicians per 1000 people. People haveto wait on the average, 17.7 weeks for procedures. There have been many that have experienced chronic pain while waiting and worse, death. There are many people that haveto come to the US in order to get an operation instead of waiting on their system. Not my idea of good coverage
i dont say that because you are short in doctors people have to wait long time for procedures, but then again healthcare is about so much more, not just life threatening or special procedures is it?
and we have the same problem in denmark just so you know, and there it is also nurses we are short on, but we are still doing better then america, because your healthcare dosnt work, now a chance for it to work comes up but because it has failed before some say i wont again.
If I ever need heart surgery, God Forbid, and I was 90th on a list in Canada, an American could fly in and get it immediately by paying. In my opinion, that is the primary reason to have health insurance, for emergencies such as these. McCain's plan gives you $5000 to choose where you want to go. You have the freedom to choose. Once we socailize healthcare, it will be a failure. Just look at what the government has done to the economy. Too many pockets are lined.
yes god forbid it^^ but the 2 main problems at hand is that it isnt becaue the goverment has taken more hold over the economy, its because they have deregulated the whole financial system, and it was going okay in the start but the corruption came fast and wall'street gambled whit the economy and lost, that is the goverments fault. and it might be a failure and it might be a succes socializing the healtcare in my eyes.
and if we look at mccain's healtcare program, it really is no good in my eyes, of course you cant say it before it has benn tried but do you really think that all the insurance companies arent just gonna move to the state where there is the less regulations for them and then all people will get screwed around whit.
and secondly it would be and okay deal if was it not for the fact that he will tax the healthcare benefits so you will pay more then you get. thats just not a good idea in my eyes.
> Look at Canada and Scotland, their healthcare is a total failure
That statement is patently false. Their systems are, by extensive objective measures, quite successful. In fact, while no system is perfect and complaints do exist, their respective systems are successful overall according to numerous polls of the people themselves.
Besides, unlike you, I believe in America. I think we can come up with ways to provide healthcare to everyone better than any other country out there.
I'm Canadian and I agree with you on the health care in Canada. Obviously it is not perfect, but I think it is a lot better than the US messed up corporate system. Objectively it is fairly successful. The wait times are not nearly as bad as made out to be and often differ by the part of Canada you are in. I found the biggest challenge right now is the demographic change, where more people are aging and older people need more health care than younger demographics.
Thanks for weighing in! The U.S. has many right-wing political commentators with zero regard for truth. They routinely insist Canadians die regularly waiting for critical care, and the wait is lengthy even for basic services.
The entertaining communicative stylings of some of these slimy characters have won them huge audiences. And constant exposure to convincing falsehoods has brainwashed too many Americans with a very conservative worldview, on health care included.
Yeah Obama Go! Increase my taxes on the money I worked so hard for. YES! Let's distribute it all evenly. Even though I took risks and succeeded, take more from me, I don't deserve it.
Congratulations on making more than $200,000 per year, since Obama has repeatedly stated point-blank he's going to increase taxes only for people in that income bracket. I'm sure you work hard for it. Too bad you're not enough of a patriot to want to pay your share for the recovery of America -- the land that made it possible to earn so much money.
I'm not a Partriot??!! For not wanting to rescue America's economy from the thieving pocket lined Senators? I made many sacrifices in life and shouldn't haveto fork out what I earned just to let it blend into some other program that the Dems will dream up. I don't make over $200,000 and know that even though Obama swears on the bible he won't take a penny from those who make less, oh wait, he doesn't even do that for the flag of the United States.

If Barack Obama becomes president, here's what we can look forward to:
A country that changes the marriage law. Not only for each state individually, but especially through the supreme court systems.
A country that accepts all forms of homosexuality as being normal. It will be taught in our school systems.
A country that will not stand for those who oppose the idea that homosexuality of any kind is indecent and immoral.
