Really love this, I'm looking to learn how to play the bouzouki, any recommendations on what make I should buy to begin with? I have never picked any instrument up before but I just love the sound of the bouzouki. Trying to find someone in Cork to give me lessons is proving to be a non runner so I'll have to try and pick it up myself. Is GDAD the best tuning to start with? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
@damieno1773 i found GDAE was a good tuning to start with, though that might just be because i started on mandolin then went over to bouzouki. as for learning chords i pretty much figured them out myself so i can't really teach anyone else. i quite like GDAE as a tuning because i've found i can do a lot with it, though i do occasionally drop to GDAD. they both have different sounds though.
great playing Mick, very inspiring, i recently learned a banjo version of this jig, slightly different from your version. Will try your version some time soon, really love it. Is there any chance you could upload a demo on how to play planxty's pat reilly ? would be great .Thanks for inspiration KEEP GOING greetings uppie Sneek Holland
Beautiful man! Thank you! There is a guy in Cornwall called Williams who has designed a hybrid Guitar/Zouk called a Gazuki...do you have any verdict or feedback..and what tuning are you using here? Aain...many thanks!
I know that Dermot McILROY makes a hybrid as well. He worked for Lowden guitars for many years, makes beautiful instruments. I've never played the hybrids at all. i've enough problems coping with the zouk and guitar individually.. :)
That was very inspiring for me. I've just ordered an Irish bouzouki but here in Italy they're not too easy to find. I'd be very interested to hear any tips you may have about playing. Thanks for sharing.
GDAD tuning I have found is great for playing the tunes and also chord playing. It allows you to drone notes while playing the tunes. Sounds like 2 instruments are playing at times.
yyaaahoo! very nice, mate! your zouk is so deep) yeah you are right - it is much easier then the guitar) i'm from Russia, but I like your irish stuff very much. I playing on mandolin, but in our country it is impossible to bye irish bouzouki ((( so may be I should try it via ebay. may be you know, how can I get this brilliant instrument?
Monaghan - one of my favorite irish standart. your variant is very cool) thanx
Its a Fylde Longscale Touchstone. I had it made by Fylde. I had to wait about 6 months for it but it was worth it. I've only been playing Boouz for about a year but its so much easier than the guitar, very modal. This Fylde has such a deep sound , great to play.
I know this Jig is Irish but it sound vaguely Middle eastern
