I think the best way to approach esotericism is being totally skeptical and logical, but evaluate everything with discipline. There have been mathematicians that had important intuitions in calculus thanks to kabalistic knowledge. Philosopher's think in simbols and images too, unfortunately not everyone is able to dedicate a life to abstract thinking.

I did a little research about Jacob Frank who is the subject of much of this discussion, and was impressed when I came across this passage on wikipedia: "Frank arguably created a new religion, now referred to as Frankism, which combined some aspects of Christianity and Judaism."
