I hated sheep so much, had to cycle through their shit for 10 kilometers every morning to get to school! They were the main reason i played this game alot!
To be honest, Splat Pack was not as good as carma1 (it's just my opinion) and it was unstable as hell, crasht every other race on my computer. Oh well at least it had the patch for carma1 to run it in high res mode.
@ignaciojork : my guess is that with todays graphics it'll be a hard sell for the game company to justify all that blood to the general consumer. I'd love it, puritan america and just about every other country with uptight game regulations would burn it at the stakes :(
I loved Carmageddon back in the day, but for some inexplicable reason a friend of mine - who'd been hit by a car in real life - wasn't nearly as enthusiastic as I was about the game. Some people just lack taste, I guess...
Nothing like the Carmegeddon series. Love the humor of some of the power-ups too. Who cares about it being too violent, all I wanted to do was kill and smash everything in sight, good times.
After all these years I still don't see what's so special about Carmageddon, other than the senseless killing the racegame itself seems kind of awkward. You keep sliding all over the place and every single bump in the road sends you flying skyhigh. :S I could be wrong since I never really played it ofcourse.
@Stonezorz Carmageddon was special because it was the first of its kind. Although there were earlier games in a similar vain ("Quarantine" and "Death Rally" come to mind) Carmageddon took it to a new level, and then some. Way over the top, and politically incorrect. And this time it was in 3D!
I agree about the actual racing aspect, it feels like that wasn't the primary focus. It's more about pulling insane stunts and taking out the other drivers in a deathmatch fashion.
Yeah that's true, at the time it must've been amazing to see a computer able to display all that. It's not a classic that has aged well if you ask me since the novelty's worn off by now. :(
@Stonezorz Computer programs grow outdated, but they don't ever age. I still play Carmageddon and other DOS games not purely because of nostalgia but also because they're fun.
Crappy graphics are also a great way to exercise your imagination. The more real game graphics get, the less you need to use your brain.
The physics weren't exactly realistic but the car behaved predictable enough for sufficiently precise controlling. You mostly needed to get to know the maps well and exercise a bit.
On another note, the unexpected events were the most funny ones.
You had the option to win each race either by being the first to touch each checkpoint or by destroying every opponent. The AI adapted to your choice. If you started a fight with one car, all others joined.

@SaudiTrooper And more realistic graphics have the bad habit of inducing the "uncanny valley" effect

You're actually mistaken, though.
The physics weren't exactly realistic but the car behaved predictable enough for sufficiently precise controlling. You mostly needed to get to know the maps well and exercise a bit.
