kid train enthusiast it puffs out..real real smoke wel forget it im only ten years old and my old man taught me about trains since i was born by 2 and a half years old i was able to drive the backyard railroad operate the lionel layout with the zw l transformer and have more then 900 thomas wooden railway toys so i think they should interview me instead of that 5 year old kid i am the real train enthusiast here not him so reply thumbs AND GET THEM A KID WHO KNOWS SOMETHING ABOUT MODEL TRAINS
I would love a backyard train set like this. I don't see anything wrong with this train set. I know it's not a real live steam train set, but it's perfect for people who just want a simple and easy backyard train set. I live in Chicago with no backyard (just backporch) but if I had a big backyard I'd buy this train. :-)
Their "starter package" is $22,000. I'm no machinist, or backyard railroad expert, but I think you can build your own for much cheaper and it would be built much better! As far as track goes, their track is expensive, compared to what I've seen, even though some may prefer the prefabricated sections for simplicity's sake.
@chappybolo the os live steam mogul actually is probably a little cheaper than there starter set, but if you ask me it is probably way better quality.
@skybluedragonator the os steam moguls come in kit form starting at 21k and are made overseas ... not sure about your quality argument (especially considering their website's top headline "Attention to corrosion of brass parts!!!")
@samdalquist yes this is electric... one good rainstorm and its toast! the OS mogul wouuld probably survive because it doesnt have circuits to short except the headlight.
@skybluedragonator regardless of steam/electric, i think we can all agree that if you're spending $21k on a train for your backyard, you'll probably plunk down an extra $3k to keep that thing inside some sort of shed or train station ... or at least spend $30.00 on a rain tarp!
yea, just looked at their site. LOL they say "REAL" trains.. define that, because #1. It's not even live steam, it's electric. You actually have to my smoke oil for it LOL. They have 1 Engine, 1 Riding care and a caboose. That's it! LOL. and they want $23,000. for a complete set. I see this company in business for hmm.. 1 year tops. No thanks for 23k I can get something actually live steam lol

@teletubbybuddy That's a great idea! :)

It would be much cheaper if you used flat bar and placed it in slits in the ties. It may not be as prototypical, but you'd save a ton of money!

Yes, it's a expensive and not so realistic.
The point is that these target wealthy families that want a practical, cheap, easy, and economical model train.
But for me, I'd get something else.

I looked at the site. Nice train but it's not real steam or smoke. There's not much diversity in the locos and stock offered for my tastes either.
