I agree with the fundamental message of this video, and MC Lars is awesome, but his "sorry, I'm totally being stereotypical" oversimplification makes my teeth hurt. I'm thinking the whole Jon & Kate debacle is more due to the pressures of selling out and being famous for no good reason rather than any type of gender issue. With MC Lars' anti-sellout message, I'd think that would be his diagnosis as well. We ladies are more than just weekend thrills, and care about more than appearances.

The problem with noticing details:

(1) It could be a trap. If you express positive feelings for changes to her appearance, she could decide you've secretly hated her appearance in the past.

(2) It could be a mistake. Maybe she's wearing different nail polish or got a new haircut to conceal what she perceives to be a problem. Point it out, and she will believe that you are trying to expose her flaws.

Just smile and keep your mouth shut. It's the safest option.

I think you really hit the nail right on the head with Jon and Kate, Lars. My girlfriend watches the show all the time (its like watching a train wreck) and you should have seen Jon before he married... he looked like Johnny Depp in Cry Baby. He is the stereotypical male you talk about.

I just think things aren't so generalizable to all guys/girls. I did masculinity research for 3 years in college. You should read "The New Psychology of Men" by Ron Levant, if you are into gender analysis.
