PoS has been my fav band for about 3-4 years now, but i had gone a long time without listening to this album b/c it got deleted from my computer. Anyway, a couple months ago i listened to this song, for the first time in what felt like a year, while i was driving, and i'm not exaggerating that i legit almost started to cry.
It's definitely one of Daniel's more poetic messages; I think this one is an extremely personal story to him, but I gather that "HE" is reminded of a girl who he knew as a child. She was a dreamer, who got bullied by her peers, and she created friends ("voices" symbolizes her imaginary friends) of her own. Other children were jealous of her, and somehow proved her "beautiful dream" to be false, "calling her down" to reality. Then, HE admits that he was one of the ones tearing down her dream.
Daniel Gildenlow are capable of writing very epic lovesongs! This and This heart of mine are two of my fave love songs! Or, lovish songs, you never really know where you got Daniel and co : D
Anyone else noticed how they've only played about 4 songs live from this album? I know they'd be difficult, but I would kill to see In the Flesh, this, or Idioglossia played live
If aliens landed outside my front door and gave me one opportunity to justify humankind's worthiness within the grand cosmic arena, or they nuke the entire surface of the Earth, I would hand them a copy of "The Perfect Element pt. 1" and simply tell them: "Enjoy".
@Zaothus Man, I wish I was the one to come up with that picture, lol. You're so right. Still, if you would hand them the whole discography, they would want to stay and live on earth just to know more, and this planet is getting too small to have them.
well, musicianship is about much more than technicality. Dream Theater have some of the greatest musicianship (imo) because they can play technically WITH taste and emotion. i kind of hate "prog" metal or w/e (as does Daniel G!) because of this stale genre of lifelessness and a lack of emotion. but dream theater, opeth, and co are great!
the interlude is PERFECT

I turn up my bass really loud for the beginning, those chords are so physically relaxing on the bones.
It's hard to believe a song as amazing as this isn't my favorite off the album. Such a good album. So good.

This song, along with Ashes is the reason I like The Perfect Element more than Remedy Lane!

the last line kind of reminded me of the sixth sense when the main character turned out to be one of the boy's visions.

I agree. Gildenlow could write a song about a bag of acorns and make it sound good.
