@bigmike9482 Duncan is still the greatest PF of all time. Better post player, better defender, more consistent, clutch and a team leader. And not to mention that Duncan is a winner.
The only thing Malone has over Duncan is athleticism. I do have Malone as the 2nd best PF of all time though.
@shadow1dx .....well I wouldn't really call Malone a loser.....he was unfortunate to play his NBA Finals against the greatest player of all time. Jordan was already downhill when Duncan became a superstar. But it's tough to argue with anyone about Duncan....Here is my final thought....Rodman is the best defensive PF, Malone is the best offensive PF, Barkley is the best athlete, Nowitski is the best shooter and Duncan is the best all around....I'll concede to that argument

He's the best offensive power forward ever. Tim Duncan is all around. As much of a Jazz fan as I am Malone never was that great of a defensive player. Barkley and Rodman are defensive legends while Malone is an offensive legend. Tim Duncan is the best power forward of all time.
Malone has the most defensive rebounds of all time and he's in the top 25 in most steals of all time as well....to say that Malone wasn't much of a defensive player isn't a smart choice....he was big, rough and tumble and a hustler....in the all in all I would put 1. Malone 2. Duncan but it's close no doubt....Malone did have a few All Defensive First Team selections...so one can't say he didn't play defense....and it's tough to put Duncan in that category considering he plays Center a lot too

Charles Barkley and Karl Malone would destroy this pussy league. Best REAL PFs Ever. In a fast paced game Malone would destroy Duncan IMO and Barkley owned Duncan and Garnett as a crippled aged, knee dead and back dead 34-36 year old man weighig 288 lbs
Look, I respect the greats as much as everybody, and Malone is one of my favorite players ever, but that's just ignorant to say. Duncan is an absolute legend who has led his team to championships time after time. And Garnett is one of the most athletic and best shooting big men of all time. You simply can't count them out.
@NR92CP Duncan faced one good team in the Finals in his career. I'd like to see him play a team like the Dynasty Bulls and come out with any titles.
Give Karl Malone a date against the New Jersey Nets or Cavs and I think Utah has a couple titles.
In fact, the one time Duncan faced a team of any merit in the Finals, he was awful. Just awful. Barely scored twenty a night, and almost gave the series away in game 5 against Det.
Rodman was the best pure rebounder in league history, but he was in no way a better defender than Duncan or Garnett. Those two have about as good a defense as you'll ever find from a PF.
I doubt you, youre only 22. KG and Duncan are best in this era, and Rodman's prime was about 13 years ago. You were just 9, how did you know about him?
Haha, don't take my channel age or channel itself seriously. I'm not 22. Even if I hadn't seen most of Rodman's games, I've seen plenty through ESPN classic, and I still maintain that he was not as good a defender as KG/Tim.
Actually, it's not. It's true that both KG/Duncan are better team defenders than Rodman. But as far as 1on1 and overall versatility, Rodman tops both with relative ease.
Speaking of relative, opinions are relative. It's easy to say so-and-so is a better defender than so-and-so if it's blatantly obvious, like Battier and Vujacic. But saying Rodman tops KG/Duncan with ease? Your opinion. I don't agree with it in the least, but fair enough.
I did say relative. As in there's really no legitimate debate. Doesn't really matter if it's close or not. I'd love to see Duncan/KG check prime MJ/Magic. Hint: it wouldn't be pretty.
Relative has multiple definitions. You clearly didn't understand what I was getting at.
And why in the name of David Stern would Duncan/KG check Jordan/Magic, who play such radically different positions? It's like me saying, "Yeah, well Rodman's a good defender, but I'd love to see him try to check prime Magic/Stockton. Hint: it wouldn't be pretty".
Your response is not a valid one, you ignorant prick. No "HE" didn't, who? Who the hell are you talking about? You've yet to provide any semblance of a counterargument towards anything I've said. Christ, has reading comprehension failed you THAT hard?!
You are the quintessential youtuber. I expect nothing else, honestly.
@IOYB You need to learn the difference between team defense -- rim protection -- and man.
As far as being shotblockers, yes, Duncan and KG are better. But as position defenders, man to man, Rodman was a beast. Neither Duncan or KG are close to him as far as positional ability.
Nor, for that matter, are Duncan/KG nearly as great as Karl Malone was at positional defense.
This entire comment reeks of ignorance. The fact that you noted Malone as a better "positional" defender (whatever the hell that arbitrary crap means) should discredit your entire argument in itself. Malone may be a better scorer than Duncan (though he DID play with one of the greatest passers or all time), but defensively? Please.
Duncan's defensive ratings rank far higher than Malone OR Rodman, and Rodman played with Pippen/Jordan. Duncan? He ANCHORED his team defense.
@IOYB "The fact that you noted Malone as a better "positional" defender (whatever the hell that arbitrary crap means)"
So, basic understanding of the game is, to you, arbitrary? Thanks for explicating that.
It's humorous how little you obviously know about basketball. Your lacking vernacular, and basic inability to understand context, certainly aren't helping you either.
It seems your argument is, altogether, your own ignorance.
You really should have laid this argument to rest, because there is none. You've also managed to convey nothing of substance in that last rant of yours, except for the fact that you confuse meaningless eloquence for logic. There is no such thing as "positional " defense in the basketball handbook. It's something you've arbitrarily come up with to justify the bat-shit ludicrous claim that Malone was a better defender (in any facet) than Duncan/KG.
positional defender = can play his matchup one on one, e.g., PF versus PF without help. Karl malone was a great positional defender, but not a great team or help defender. Malone rarely got weakside blocks, etc. But he was a great one on one defender against scoring PFs. Barkley was a decent positional defender but a superb help defender, as a contrast.
I appreciate the response, but that's essentially man defense, defending one's counterpart alone. At any rate, it still doesn't help his "argument", but w/e.
@IOYB DUNCAN WAS A GREAT DEF. BUT MALONE WAS VERY GOOD TO(3 FIRST DEF.TEAM AND 1SECOND).ALTHOUGH TIM WAS BETTER DEF,KARL WAS MUCH BETTER IN OFFENSE AND HAD MUCH MORE LENGHT.DUNCAN FACED AGED KNIKS WITHOU EWING,NETS AND CAVS(MAYBE THE WORST TEAM PLAYED IN NBA FINALS).THE ONLY GOOD TEAM HE FACED WAS PISTONS.
@IOYB He arguably shut down Duncan in the 04 playoffs. At forty.
And he KG had a lot of trouble with him in the WCF that year.
As for prime Malone, the only other time Duncan and Malone went at it Malone also got the better of the matchup. In the 98 playoffs the Jazz beat the Spurs in 5, and much of that had to do with Malone outclassing SA's lineup of Duncan and Robinson.
First two games Duncan was awesome. But Malone was more clutch, and then went NUTS in the fourth game, ending the series.
I bet you think Kobe was amazing when he scored 81 pts in a game too.. except it was against the worst team in the NBA at the time, the Toronto Raptors...very impressive, not
If you want to make the argument that Duncan is a better PLAYER than Malone, then that might be a decent argument. But I don't think Duncan is even the third best pf of all time. What Barkley did at 6'7 is MUCH more impressive than what Duncan's done at 7ft. Malone and Barkley spent their whole carriers playing against bigger players while Duncan has spent his whole carrier playing against smaller players. And the whole ring thing is silly.EVERYONE knows, no Genoble, no ring. MJ won with anyone.
i like malone but he isnt better than duncan, unless of course your standard happens to be something other than winning... made me sick to watch him don the purple and gold when the fakers tried to buy their championship.
MJ's bulls were on a different level then even the shaq/kobe lakers, not close enough. Those spurs would've stood less of a chance than the stockon malone jazz
yeah the fakers, and yeah buy a championship...you know like the yankees, cowboys, etc... load up the roster with superstars in a ditch effort to win it all and then fall flat on their faces. No im not retarded, im a basketball fan and i dont like the lakers, mostly becasue of their arrogant and feeble minded fan base, that and KoME
sorry guy, its an opinion and if it hurts your feelings, you might want to stay off of public comment forums. maybe thats how you guys like it but people with respect for the game like to see teams that work and grow together go far, instead of a rich owner who just buys up names and tries to stick them together. so um...no, thats not how its supposed to go. I'll wont like/respect the Lakers until KoME retires and his fans latch onto the next selfish arrogant ego-driven icon. almost isnt enough.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Dirtiest Player in NBA History...........but the teammates said he could give a passable blowjob in a pinch on the road.....completely overrated player............never won shit.
and he only did it in 31 minutes of playing, other players who have scored more in a game have usually played the whole game, even overtime like when MJ scored 69
first of all, i LOVE hearing Hot Rod Hundley in his prime. most underrated play-by-play guy in the league he described everything perfectly for radio. second: it doesn't say it in the info, but this was the game after the all-star selection when malone got snubbed. i love revenge games.

Look, I respect the greats as much as everybody, and Malone is one of my favorite players ever, but that's just ignorant to say. Duncan is an absolute legend who has led his team to championships time after time. And Garnett is one of the most athletic and best shooting big men of all time. You simply can't count them out.
NR92CP 2 years ago
@NR92CP Duncan faced one good team in the Finals in his career. I'd like to see him play a team like the Dynasty Bulls and come out with any titles.
Give Karl Malone a date against the New Jersey Nets or Cavs and I think Utah has a couple titles.
In fact, the one time Duncan faced a team of any merit in the Finals, he was awful. Just awful. Barely scored twenty a night, and almost gave the series away in game 5 against Det.
Horry bailed his ass out there.

@sunshinebutmorerain
Remember that you dont get a free ticket to the finals, you have to beat 3 teams first.

Yeah, and get Olaujowon (not sure on the spelling) on D. :D
RadcliffOfCrymod 2 years ago
"DESTROY" Duncan and Garnett? Never has there been a more inappropriate hyperbole.
IOYB 2 years ago
Malone was a better offense player than Duncan and KG for sure.
jimmychuang 2 years ago
Sure, but KG and Duncan are/were both elite defenders. He certainly wouldn't "destroy" them, and on the other end, he'd have trouble guarding either.
IOYB 2 years ago
Yap, but Rodman was a better defender than KG and Duncan. He couldnt stop Malone.
jimmychuang 2 years ago
Rodman was the best pure rebounder in league history, but he was in no way a better defender than Duncan or Garnett. Those two have about as good a defense as you'll ever find from a PF.
IOYB 2 years ago
Rodman had two defensive player of the year.
I doubt you, youre only 22. KG and Duncan are best in this era, and Rodman's prime was about 13 years ago. You were just 9, how did you know about him?
jimmychuang 2 years ago
Haha, don't take my channel age or channel itself seriously. I'm not 22. Even if I hadn't seen most of Rodman's games, I've seen plenty through ESPN classic, and I still maintain that he was not as good a defender as KG/Tim.
IOYB 2 years ago
You keep your point, I have mine.
jimmychuang 2 years ago
Fair enough. Mine's just better. :D
IOYB 2 years ago
Now you act like 5 yrs old.
jimmychuang 2 years ago
It was a joke. lol
Some people are way too testy.
IOYB 2 years ago
Actually, it's not. It's true that both KG/Duncan are better team defenders than Rodman. But as far as 1on1 and overall versatility, Rodman tops both with relative ease.
mt883 2 years ago
Speaking of relative, opinions are relative. It's easy to say so-and-so is a better defender than so-and-so if it's blatantly obvious, like Battier and Vujacic. But saying Rodman tops KG/Duncan with ease? Your opinion. I don't agree with it in the least, but fair enough.
IOYB 2 years ago
I did say relative. As in there's really no legitimate debate. Doesn't really matter if it's close or not. I'd love to see Duncan/KG check prime MJ/Magic. Hint: it wouldn't be pretty.
mt883 2 years ago
Relative has multiple definitions. You clearly didn't understand what I was getting at.
And why in the name of David Stern would Duncan/KG check Jordan/Magic, who play such radically different positions? It's like me saying, "Yeah, well Rodman's a good defender, but I'd love to see him try to check prime Magic/Stockton. Hint: it wouldn't be pretty".
IOYB 2 years ago
Karl shit on Rodman in the playoffs!!
cassaroll 2 years ago
No he didn't. But your blatantly wrong opinion is duly noted.
mt883 2 years ago
@mt883
IOYB 1 year ago
@IOYB You need to learn the difference between team defense -- rim protection -- and man.
As far as being shotblockers, yes, Duncan and KG are better. But as position defenders, man to man, Rodman was a beast. Neither Duncan or KG are close to him as far as positional ability.
Nor, for that matter, are Duncan/KG nearly as great as Karl Malone was at positional defense.
sunshinebutmorerain 1 year ago
@sunshinebutmorerain
IOYB 1 year ago
@IOYB "The fact that you noted Malone as a better "positional" defender (whatever the hell that arbitrary crap means)"
So, basic understanding of the game is, to you, arbitrary? Thanks for explicating that.
It's humorous how little you obviously know about basketball. Your lacking vernacular, and basic inability to understand context, certainly aren't helping you either.
It seems your argument is, altogether, your own ignorance.
sunshinebutmorerain 1 year ago
@sunshinebutmorerain
I'd advise using data.
IOYB 1 year ago
@IOYB
positional defender = can play his matchup one on one, e.g., PF versus PF without help. Karl malone was a great positional defender, but not a great team or help defender. Malone rarely got weakside blocks, etc. But he was a great one on one defender against scoring PFs. Barkley was a decent positional defender but a superb help defender, as a contrast.
klined 1 year ago
@klined
I appreciate the response, but that's essentially man defense, defending one's counterpart alone. At any rate, it still doesn't help his "argument", but w/e.
IOYB 1 year ago
AdreasTheGreat 1 year ago
@IOYB He arguably shut down Duncan in the 04 playoffs. At forty.
And he KG had a lot of trouble with him in the WCF that year.
As for prime Malone, the only other time Duncan and Malone went at it Malone also got the better of the matchup. In the 98 playoffs the Jazz beat the Spurs in 5, and much of that had to do with Malone outclassing SA's lineup of Duncan and Robinson.
First two games Duncan was awesome. But Malone was more clutch, and then went NUTS in the fourth game, ending the series.

cyberclops248 2 years ago
I bet you think Kobe was amazing when he scored 81 pts in a game too.. except it was against the worst team in the NBA at the time, the Toronto Raptors...very impressive, not
DarylGraziano 2 years ago
If you want to make the argument that Duncan is a better PLAYER than Malone, then that might be a decent argument. But I don't think Duncan is even the third best pf of all time. What Barkley did at 6'7 is MUCH more impressive than what Duncan's done at 7ft. Malone and Barkley spent their whole carriers playing against bigger players while Duncan has spent his whole carrier playing against smaller players. And the whole ring thing is silly.EVERYONE knows, no Genoble, no ring. MJ won with anyone.
ssgundy 2 years ago
i like malone but he isnt better than duncan, unless of course your standard happens to be something other than winning... made me sick to watch him don the purple and gold when the fakers tried to buy their championship.
swordofscripture 2 years ago
at least he waited for stockton to retire.
liweiwu007 2 years ago
Whatever, karl won plenty. The only thing tim duncan has on malone is the fact that he didn't have to play mj in the finals.
ZeHousen 2 years ago
yeah he won plenty but he never won the big one, and TD won over the lakers twice in the shaq/kobe era, so its close enough
swordofscripture 2 years ago
MJ's bulls were on a different level then even the shaq/kobe lakers, not close enough. Those spurs would've stood less of a chance than the stockon malone jazz
ZeHousen 2 years ago
Stockton and Malone SWEPT shaq/kobe.. so I don't understand the point of your argument.

yeah the fakers, and yeah buy a championship...you know like the yankees, cowboys, etc... load up the roster with superstars in a ditch effort to win it all and then fall flat on their faces. No im not retarded, im a basketball fan and i dont like the lakers, mostly becasue of their arrogant and feeble minded fan base, that and KoME
swordofscripture 2 years ago
wow um..
isnt that how its supposed to go?
and it almost worked too.
and you shouldnt be talking shit, 09 CHAMPS
G0000MBA 2 years ago
sorry guy, its an opinion and if it hurts your feelings, you might want to stay off of public comment forums. maybe thats how you guys like it but people with respect for the game like to see teams that work and grow together go far, instead of a rich owner who just buys up names and tries to stick them together. so um...no, thats not how its supposed to go. I'll wont like/respect the Lakers until KoME retires and his fans latch onto the next selfish arrogant ego-driven icon. almost isnt enough.
swordofscripture 2 years ago

this lakers team went far, at least the 09 lakers, i mite partially agree on the 04 lakers but 09 no way.
