  • can you use a Boss FS-5U as an extra foot switch for tap tempo?

  • I craved this pedal for sooo long and when I finally bought it I was a bit dissapointed cause ignorant me hadn´t realized the difference between analog and digital delay, however when I played it for a couple weeks I really got to like it, its warm sounding and unique and perfect if you like psychedelic music, but I´m going to add a boss digital one to the mix because the memory boy doesn´t have enough repetitions for my taste, still I think Electro Harmonix is the shit!!

  • @onlyfoolsarepositive If you want a digital pedal with a good selection of different delays I'd go for the Echo Park by line six or a delta nova repeater.

  • Can i use this memory boy as a normal chorus??

  • I had one of these and i thought it sucked. Just like all of the XO series pedals. And i have had several. Seriously why doesnt EHX spend some time beta testing before they dump them on the market.

  • what's the lick that you start playing at around 2:54? it sounds superb

  • Is it possible to play all the classic u2 songs like pride, bad, until the end of the world, with this pedal?

  • This amp sounds amazing, but what is the price of it?

  • This pedal sounds really cool, versatile, and most certainly psychedelic, but i'm wondering if you speed up the chorus rate (i have a compatible expression pedal, and i've heard it can speed the rate even further) and reduce the depth, will it sound more like vibrato/tremolo or just a fast chorus? Just curious if I can get that effect, a sort of subtle and fast modulation that doesen't change the sound or tone too much.

  • You could do samples in overdrive/distorsion. It's beautiful in clean sound but we can't hear what it gives in OD channel.

  • this sucker has it's daddy's personality .

it does analog delay wonderfully. it also has its poppa's quirks.

move "that knob" and it becomes "unstable" and dare i say it .. almost " unuseable'

it does what i'd expect from it's family line . just like the ehx hardwired memory man deluxe. it's wild, but tameable, you just gotta be brave enough to face it's wildness. and the price is just insane .. get one .. its way less expensive than it ought to be ..

  • hey great demo! thanks. i just ordered one of these. I was hoping it was a decent chorus pedal and I see some comments that it is. cool!

  • I bought one of these because it cost less than a carbon copy. I absolutely love it. I think it sounds much better than a carbon copy to be honest. It's also much more versatile. Alot of the time I use the Memory Boy as a chorus pedal and it sounds better than alot of chorus pedals I've used.

All in all, well worth purchasing if you want ANALOG delay. This is not DIGITAL delay, so don't try to use it as digital delay.

  • how does this compare to memory man?

  • got this pedal the other week. phoned up the place i got it from and demanded a full refund.

then before i packed it back up i had another play on it. its one of the sweetest analog delays ive ever heard. better than the CC. you just need to know how to use it. its VERY sensitive

  • Got this one for Christmas. I love it.

  • How does this pedal work with the tone range of a stage piano?

I'm a multi-instrumentalist in a post-rock band and I think abaut getting some of these for some more warm delay.

  • @nibblhansalt a rhodes stage piano? probably pretty nicely

  • Ah okay, thank you...hope your right ^^

  • after all thats what makes a good pedal

  • @magicbag6790 you obviously don't know how to use it. it can be set to extremely subtle using the knobs. i suggest looking at the other options like Carbon Copy if you don't want this

  • @tannerthomason

That's the PEDAL, not a keyboard. some people find ignorance annoying too.

  • @plizwiz - Good comeback!!!! Matt

  • as a fact i generally don't respond to comments, but since somebody took a dig at me, listen to 4:58 to 5:01 with the volume turned up and you'll clearly hear a second affected audio track with quiet words being spoken mixed in with ambient noise. I've spent too much money on pedals to not know what the eh does, i own a pog, very familiar with their work....when you pay close enough attention you'll hear the second track that has nothing to do with what the guitar is doing.

  • Comment removed

  • @tannerthomason you took a dig at the video initially (and have since removed your initial dig), i listened/watched and didn't hear anything out of the ordinary. so i dug back. i have relistened to the exact part you point out and while i MAY hear a voice, i still don't hear any rogue "second affected audio track". your ears are obviously better than mine.

    nice wheels cover BTW.

  • @tannerthomason It's the pedal. There's nothing else mixed into this.

  • @tannerthomason dude are you on acid

  • @tannerthomason dude are you on acid?!

  • i normally don't like delay, but this pedal makes me love it

  • is it just me or are the repeats up an octave?

  • no but when the feed back is up it self ocilates and makes a funny sound kinda higher piched

  • well i play a lot of experimental/shoegaze so the de-7 is used mainly for noise. while i have my memory boy as analog and dd-7 as digital

  • im going to have many delay pedal's for my rigg as well, but the cheapest im going for delay is Deluxe or Original Memory Man. and the T-Rex reptile (you've got to spend the money on it its worth your buck) sounds like you really haven't given thought to you board.

  • im about to get this pedal.... I'll have 3 delay pedals on my board. 1)Ibanez de-7 2)Boss dd-7 3) EHX memory boy

  • nice! I'll have

    1)Barber Trifecta Fuzz 2)Boss TR-2 Tremolo 3)Digitech Whammy 4) EHX Memory Boy

  • hey man just wanna help you out i have just traded in carb copy towards a new amp anyway been playing for ten years I know tone the mem boy is alot more versatile the carb copy is killer and warm but maybe 3 or 4 sweet spots the rest unmusical imo crazy sounds which can be cool but man if you want the best bang for your buck get the digitech d-l8 hardwire it is awesome looper reverse and every kind of delay you can handle I could barley tell the difference between the dl8 and carb cop

  • I think the carb copy sounds just that extra bit warmer, with nice lows and keeping the signal very much intact. all the Reverse, Modulated and loop effects are nice but im looking for just plain tape echo sound..the carb copy seems to get very close.

  • @abstract200 The new Malekko 616 v.2 gets even warmer than a CC in True Bypass Mode, and in Buffered mode it brings the signal up just a bit but still keeps the organic and warm tone. I ordered one and can't wait til it gets here.

  • @theShowStopper321 thx..I decided to get a Memory Boy from Electr..Harm. It has a great sound.

  • this or the carbon copy?

  • Neither. Mad Professor Deep Blue Delay. Such an awesome pedal!

  • @GuernB2 Neither. Malekko 616 ekko. Its like a combination of both of those and just as versatile. There is also an internal gain trim pot.

  • dont get this, get the number one delay like what ElMiriachi311 said, its a lot better

  • the price of it just put a smile on my face :) ...

  • i wish it sounded more like an analog delay.

  • I just bought this pedal about two weeks ago and if you want really clean delays. go for the #1 echo because with this being an analog delay it will give you a really nice muddy delay which I use a lot but for my solos i'll use the echo for clean delays. It depends on what kind of sound you want. The modulation on this pedal by the way is sick. You really have to play with one for your self to hear this pedal very well.

  • Is just the delayed signal being modulated or is it modulating everything like a separate chorus pedal?

  • only the repeats or "delays" are modulated i think

  • @alienspeedmetal @IsaacDeano93

no, it isn't, you can also use as a chorus/vibrato pedal if you rolled the delay knob all the way down

  • is this an a nalog pedal? true analog.....

  • yes

  • yep

  • wiv this pedal can you simply change the delay time with the expression pedal without all the crazy effects. becuase i jam alot of reggae so i just want to use it 4 the delay time

  • Nobody find the sound a little bit cold. I'm talking about comparation between the MMan vs MBoy...

The MBoy sounds fine, but I find it soundsa little without warmth. It's possible wath I'm mistake...Sorry mu english: I'm spanish

  • I think I can hear a slight difference in warmth too, I was kinda torn on whether to get the big MMan or the MBoy, but I think I'm getting the MBoy. The slightly "colder" features might make it sound like a analog/digital hybrid...or at least thats what Im hoping for lol

  • Maybe the preamp in the Memory Man gives it a certain tone. These are clones of panasonic BBD chips from what I've heard so they aren't as good as the original close but not quite as good.

  • the diamond memory lane is an analog delay with built in tap tempo-a digital hybridization for sure. but the delay itself is analog.

  • does it have tap tempo?

  • no, and almost all analog delays don't have one btw

  • This costs 45 bucks and cant be beat.

  • where can you get it for 45 bucks?

  • Yes, please tell us where it is selling for $45! I want one!

  • Does anyone else have the issue with the Delay dial? Pushing past 2 or 3 o'clock results in no repeats?

  • This is a weird wonderful beast. With the square wave setting, you strum a chord or play some notes and randomly pitched notes come out rather unpredictably. It takes some getting used to. I also found that dialing the delay knob past 2 or 3 o'clock, and the signal stops repeating. I'm not sure if this is a malfunction or not. Also, mine made an audible (and repeated) popping sound. But even with all these issues, the pedal makes lush and pristine sounds. Can't wait to get it back from EHX.

  • This seems to have a hard time repeating the same sound as the input. I am looking for an FX box that is faithfull to the inputs sound and does not add weird noise like this one does. Ive heard much better. If you like vintage tone "slap-back" the ibanez sounds a hell of a lot better.

  • This isn't designed for vintage slapback.

  • This is true, but it is not typical of an "analog sound". Also I feel that the square wave modulation is not used much on F.X. units as it never sounds that good. I had it on some of the units I made, only to have most players tell me they dont use it as it sounds to much like an English cop car siren!. This does how-ever have it's own sound so if one likes it, i'd say buy it, and use it. I like E.H. gear a lot, just not the sound of the "Memory Boy" but then thats my own taste.

  • @ToneFactor These amps dont have FX loops, so u are running it in front of the amp? How would u compare this pedal before the amp and in an FX loop? Some say running a delay in front of an overdriven amp results in a muddy, undesirable sound.

  • if you want an exact repeat, go with a digital delay. Analog delays are known for their "artifacts" in the repeat.

  • Thank's for the info, But the thing is I want my cake and eat it! ha,ha, I think the best sounding repeat I"ve heard was a tape loop system, a WEM copy-cat to be exact. I like the analog pedals "soft cliping" when overdriven, but then I want the cleaness of a digital, I dislike the digital pedals sound when over-driven. Am I expecting to much. Or maybe I should try an analog distortion pedal in front of a digital repeat pedal.

  • ah, I see where you're comming from now! have you checked the Subdecay Echobox? it's like an, analog/digital boutique version of this, but with a cleaner clipped signal when pushed. It's worth checking out if you can get your hands on one! great pedal, and could be more what you're looking for ... just a sugestion though, hunting is part of the fun of building a pedalboard!

  • @ProfessorMatic

The "weird noise" you speak of is what happens when you adjust the knobs on any analog delay, new or old. If you want something that does it all, including vintage slap back, you might be better off with something like a Boss Giga Delay.

  • @ProfessorMatic Analog repeats aren't perfect copies of the input signal. Look to digital for that.

  • @nathanielvsindustry Actually it's the other way around analog is an analog taping of your guitar's tone but digital is a digital rehash of your guitar so the tone isn't as rich but you have a longer delay.

  • Sounds like a square wave :)

  • square modulation = crazzzy. i was trying to explain to a friend what it sounds like and i couldnt even put it into words

  • kinda like a hurdy gurdy to me...very sweet ass!

  • I have it and really like it. I also have a Carbon Copy and the MB is slightly brighter with much more available modulation. Very tight sounding delay. The price is right so get one, you can't go wrong.

  • ahh this pedals amazing just bought it yesterday, incredibly warm sounding. Modulations good i just dont use it often, only like it below 9 oclock but otherwise its an amazing an affordable analon delay

  • Great sounding pedal. Looking forward to the Memory Toy demo. Thanks

  • Hm, I don't really hear the lushness of the original DMM. But I'm sure a lot of people could use this, especially considering the price. But I don't think it's gonna be a unit that surpasses the DMM in lushness.

I do have to say that the 'weirder' sounds you can get out of this can be pretty usable!

  • That thing is kickass... never heard anything that sounds like the square wave modulation.

  • Sounds nice and lush at an affordable price.
