This is dealing more with prearranged marriage then it is with "slavery". All that belonged to a man was that man's property so different vocabulary was used when talking about it. The Bible also gave a lot of rules to protect the woman who was given to a man in a prearranged situation. "To sell" simply meant a dowry was paid to the father

God has providentially preserved HIS Word perfect in the Bible. It is thus sacred, infallible, and final authority.
These two, and scientists and atheists, know the creation requires the Creator.
Thus, judged accordingly, "without excuse"..

Actually, you can pick and choose what you want if you are into a faith. And Penn believes everything the mass (billionaire) media tells him, too. So where is his credibility for that? Most of these verses come from the Old Testament. Once Jesus came the rules from the old days back then changed. So that is why those rules that he read don't apply to today.

@DocKro23 In the old testament, God is very close to human. He has doubts, he makes mistakes, he gets mad, and he gets tricked by Satan. Later on, the Christians decided that God had become perfect after sending his kid to earth. But even though God has a plan with absolutely everything and is never wrong, they still pray for peoples lives. If he wants to kill kids with cancer and AIDS at the same time. IT DOESN'T FUCKING HELP TO ASK HIM NICELY TO STOP IT!

@WlatPziupp Not true. "Atheist" means someone who doesn't believe in any god. However, there are quite a few godless religions out there, including Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. People of those religions can very well claim that they're religious atheists.

@WlatPziupp - the term "religious" doesn't necessarily have to do with organized religion so to speak - someone can religiously study math, play golf or incite stupid discussions where they promote their ill-informed beliefs about what the "religious" do or think - it is very possible, and quite common, to be a religious atheist. And there are plenty of uneducated atheists, especially when it comes to the topic at hand.

I love the over 1,000 comments on this post. This is what Penn & Teller are out to do, create conversation. Albeit some of the conversation is outright awful, but at least people are discussing this.
For the record, I'm an Athiest, I disagree with some of the conclusions made in regards to the passages, but I agree with the overall message: An infallible creator creates problems with a book translated & transcribed by men. If there is a god, surely he will forgive my open skepticism of him.

Penn (the guy on the left) doesn't like the Bible because it condemns prostitution and extra marital affairs, which he has regularly. It also condemns kinky sex and perversion, which is his bag.
He says he is not taking anything out of context, but he certainly is because he's a sick POS who desperately needs God's forgiveness, but who is too much of a prideful jerk to see how wrong he is.
As of now it looks like he will spend an eternity in hell cursing God. But it doesn't have to be so.

Perhaps the Quran is right. It teaches that the Bible has been rewritten several times and that Jesus is only a prophet not son of God. But then again, it agrees with the Bible on a good number of fundamentals.
