I can't really stretch my pinky up a whole step when my ring finger's on the 6th string so I just keep my ring finger on the 5th string and my pinky tends to stretch more that way. Then I just don't hit the bass strings on that bit and it sounds basically the same :)

PROTIP: For those who can't put their pinky up a whole step for their Gadd9 chord and don't want to use the open B-string method, just bar the bottom two strings with your index finger and get the low e-string note with your thumb. It may not look as attractive as how Marty plays the chord, but this way you can easily get the whole step on the high e just by using your ring finger

i dunno bout other people but i never bother with trying to mimic the strumming pattern exactly. as a guitarist, i think its more important to feel the rythm of the music rather than try to reproduce it
