  • Dang Thai Son owns this piece!!

  • My favorite version of this concerto--Awesome performance.

  • He is a famous pianist as everyone knows, but this performance is not good.

  • @ykmgt oh and why is that? please point out more specifically

  • absolutely fantastic!

  • This is one of my favorite piano concerto. It was the last piece I learned/performed before I switched to Law School.

  • At once moment...I think I see the fire spark from his fingers! What a wonderful play.

  • @pianos fun - yes you did, I'm not really following what you're trying to say

  • Amazing consert!!

  • @physphilmusic : 1980 Chopin competition, not Tchaikovsky competition

  • @2B2Mgt 2005 Chopin competition, not 1980!

  • @2B2Mgt 2005 Chopin competition, not 1980, was that concert.

  • Proves he was more than worthy of the 1980 Tchaikovsky Competition prize...something those Chopin competition hopefuls can learn something from.

  • Felix Mendelssohn the Great + Đặng Thái Sơn the Extraordinary = Perfection.

  • It's a little leggato and wet sounding for me, but amazing performance. Haha, I'm the guy that likes everything light and fast ( only for fast pieces and light pieces lol )

I'm not criticizing him, every artist has their own opinion. I'm about to upload the third mov of beetoven op 10 no 1 prestissimo, then you'll get what I mean. Add me if you want until it comes. Until then, enjoy me murdering the revolutionary etude. I think I got carried away on this comment.

  • He came to our school! Amazing player

  • Bravo professor Dang

  • @TheLuo2468 I guess you are one of Dang 's student ? :)

  • @magicflute1510 Indeed

  • perfect balance between soloist and orchestra at 3:30

  • Finally found something Dang Thai Son is really good at! I always thought his Chopin is actually not that good, although the scherzi are nice, but the preludes are disastrous. This Mendelssohn is clean, strong and thoughtfully crafted with a complacent orchestra, here he is much more competent than Yuja Wang or Lang Lang.

  • Wonderful performance, but the sound quality is soooooooooo poor

  • freakin epic song! my <3 is playing this at a concert soon and shes gonna beast it

  • What I find so interesting about Mendelssohn's music is that it is easier than that of other composers to pinpoint his influences (does that make him less original or authentic? I'll leave that up to the musicologists).

Notice at 3:46 how the orchestra abruptly (but beautifully) switches from B-flat major to D-flat major. That kind of transition is classic Beethoven.

  • @1980NewWave yes but remember that this was only his first piano concerto, even Chopin's 1st concerto is very much inspired by Mozart

  • @Allegro11Maestoso first to be published I meant

  • @Allegro11Maestoso - Chopin's 1st concerto inspired by Mozart?? I don't think so. If anything, it was inspired by Hummel's A-minor concerto.

Mendelssohn was indeed a Mozart fan, but this concerto reminds me equally of Beethoven. In any case, despite being a paltry 7 minutes in length, this movement packs more of a musical than some much longer piano concerto 1st movements.

  • oh...

  • why r they playing mendelsohnn on a chopin comptition?

  • Comment removed

  • @richclayderman because its an awesome piece

    duh

  • holiness

  • J'ai hâte de le jouer, en espérant que ce sera aussi beau que cette version....

  • absolutely wonderful!!

  • Great performance Dang Thai--Felix's music needs guys like you!!

  • my god, this is beautiful

  • What intensity! Here is a pianist who understands every note of the music and imprints it with great passion. Thank you for bringing us this masterpiece!

  • senational beginning, extraordinary technique, full of passion when played, best version ever!

  • My favorite part is 1:04-1:08.

  • Mr. Son, you are awesome. Wonderful, civilized, virtoso playing with the right amount of pedal and without torturing the audience with hysterical and pathetic antics à la LangLang. THANK YOU!!

  • Wow, the Sturm un drang in full swing!

    Bravo, Maestro Dang!

    Great interpretation and performance.

    Thanks a thousand times over.

  • Thanks for uploading this performance - very good interpretation indeed.

  • Methinks his version is even better than Murray Perahia's!

  • If anything, Dang Thai Son under-acts. That's one thing (out of many) that impresses me about his playing.

  • superb playing!

  • one of the few pieces i don't get sick of. :)

  • Mendelssohn has always been my favorite composer, and this pianist does him justice.

  • 6:00 is definetely the cherry on the cake, holy crap, AMAZING, love it

  • Wow!!! He really conveyed the power of the piece. Bravo!

  • This is the first time I've seen Dang Thai Son played a fast piece. He looked really serious and into this piece.

So proud he is a Viet !

  • Absolutely brilliant.

  • Thank you sooo much for this video. This pianist is just amazing! Thanks a lot!!

  • Superb piece and so wonderfully played by Dang Thai Son. Also a brilliant Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Maestro Antoni Wit.

The 2nd part was already so great so many thanks for uploading this 1st part. Perhaps the 3rd part also to make it complete? Greetings!

  • Amazing performane!!
