I actually do have the whole operetta on DVD. I just haven't followed all the dialog that closely yet. I didn't realize other people had posted these selections on Youtube before me! It makes me want to get Zigeunerbaron from the same festival. I love the music in that one too.
You're welcome. I guess you should watch the whole performance, and you'll understand everything about this story. Which is in my opinion the most romantic opertta ever, and this performace was the one that made me fall in love with this genre.

Hallo operetta2,
could you please be so kind to add Giorgio Madia to the credits and also the tags?
He's the choreographer of that staging, and he is Chief choreographer of Seefestspiele Mörbisch.
Thank you very much!

Die unsterbliche Operette von Imre Kalman "Gräfin Mariza". The best version of course in Mörbisch! Great!

That is the only performance from Mörbisch that I haven't seen either, I have all the others from 1994.

One thing I can't figure out about this story: if she's a countess why is she dressed like a Hungarian peasant for this dance?

Because she wanted to show that she can manage her estate without her bailiff, she went out working herself.
