@MegaMusicisfun What about the National Energy Program? All the eastern provinces were sucking up our money like they “deserved” it. If you call us Albertans greedy, we can rightfully say the same thing about YOU.
In addition, how did you help us? By sending in more immigrant farmers in the early twentieth century? What a joke. Also, if you want to talk about loyalty, talk about Quebec. /end rant

Call it sucking if you will. But to me this is just a part of sharing hte money throughout the country. Its been like that for many decades way before Alberta ever became wealthy
Has any one who has added a comment to this video worked in the oil sands? who here has first hand experience with the oil patch? The oil industry in Alberta is fucked up.
1hotfred then you drink the water and eat the food down stream form the tar sands better yet try raising your children on it wash them in it, cook their food in it watch them get sick and wonder why no long term health studies have be carried out on the effect of living down stream, does it matter to you that many communities eat and live worse but do not have any were near the same cancer rates or do you just wont to blame the victim read Treaty 8 we make laws for a reason.
@michael45161 it's called collateral damage. 20 years of litigation is our gov. answer to the Lupicon Cree poisoning from the tarsands. New development in renewable energy isn't going to happen fast enough. People just do not get this. Yes, they have a future, but there is no doubt in my mind or in the mind of anyone with a brain that we NEED oil until we can get too a place where the world runs without it. The bitumen in northern Alberta provides a transitionary fuel during that time frame.
the only reason people think its so terrible is because they think its just going to be a creator in the ground once a sector of a mine is not producing, no it is back filled with processed sand and in about 10 years a forest will arise, 20-30 years you will not be able to tell the difference. the only reason because people attack alberta is because of free speech. what about china? what about russia? go run your mouth over there and tell me what happens in an afterlife.

This bitumen oil will not be a good source until the pollution aspect (like the huge toxic lake-'tailings megapond' is pristine and safe to drink and for birds to land on, and there is no other dangerous toxic pollution residues or wasted water.
Ya drillers know what their talking about..NOT.Just because you work in the oil sands drilling does not make you an expert on the consequences of it.When the gov't and the oil companies both state there is a problem with the toxic "reservoirs" leaching into the groundwater you know we are in trouble. As we all know the oil companies would sell their own mother's soul to make an extra buck, and apparently the AB gov't is gettin'just as bad.Go live downstream and drink the water for a year, dare ya!
i am pointing out the fact that all oilsand development doesn't involve "toxic tailing-megaponds"...something i do happen to know about. we actually drill for oilsands that won't be strip-mined. i've also said that it may not be perfect but what is....can you honestly say you're 100% earth friendly.....probably not!!
@cashout007 i've been drinking the water for 23 years in alberta dumbfuck and i'm good to go....i'll make my 150K a year and have our province flourish, while we still have gorgeous scenery (ie. banff national park) the mountains...lake louise...shall i continue??
The oil came from mother nature over millions of years. We're actually helping clean up nature's oil spill! The 'tailings' from the ponds came from the ground to begin with and all the water used in the oilsands evaporates right back into the atmosphere 100% clean! (the water cycle) And the CO2 just stimulates more plant/crop growth around the world, supporting more life. Nature is incredibly homeostatic!
and in south america, oil "bubbles" out of the ground into ponds and there is a thriving ecosystem around these ponds. and the oilsands....they have been there for eons and the ecosystem flourished. the extraction may temporarily "mar" the landscape, but it is all reclaimed in the end.
michael747195, Since when does CO2 stimulate plant growth supporting more life? Studies have shown that increased CO2 levels does lead to increased growth, however, the nutrient levels in these plants/crops are not increased. What does this mean? It means that more of these plants/crops will need to be consumed just to receive the same nutritional benefits.. . Tailings ponds are extremely toxic, so where do the toxins go when the water evaporates?
Fuck give your head a shake! You asked "so where do the toxins go when the water evaporates?"
Where did the toxins come from? They where there naturaly but now they are in a less toxic state. So couldnt you agree that because of the oil sand companys the oil sands are being cleaned up??
in response to sourmanofcoal "please SHUT TA FUCK UP as you know nothing and only speak from emotion"...pardon me..know nothing...i'm drilling into the oilsands right now....but yet i know nothing? YOU get YOUR facts straight because obviousely you know nothing and obviousely speak from emotion...hence the "SHUT TA FUCK UP"....dumbass!!!
ruining the environment??? you should know what you're talking about before you decide to comment on it. come to alberta and see the "toxic hell"...it doesn't exist. you're all idiots if you really think alberta is like that. pardon me while i go start my gas guzzling, pollution spewing pick-up truck so i can go drill some more oilwells. cya.
ya...we here in alberta don't mind carrying the country on our backs....after all we are still canadians aren't we? so the next time you meet an albertan....say thank you!!
so u want Alberta to stop drilling, mining, and manufacturing oil???? have fun whem the gas prices rise to over 4,00 a litre, and damn USA might just start a war with Canada, because now they have to pay as much as Canada does for oil and gas, being because Alberta is USAs top oil supplier, because of us, they're price on oil is still only half of what we pay in Canada!!
hyperlight: I have never said I want Alberta to stop drilling, mining and manufacturing oil. I DON'T! If the U.S. doesn't want our 'dirty' oil (as they describe it) China wants it very badly. I think you may be misinterpreting my comments here. Most were said 'tongue in cheek'
with the americans on the "lets start drilling the oilwells we didn't want to so we can help feed our addiction to oil" kick right now....they even got chuck norris on the band wagon. maybe we'll see a "roundhouses for oil" campaign start and then they can elect chuck prez and he can roundhouse the world.
I don't understand why Americans don't acquire oil from us. It is the most accessible and reasonable and will free them from middle east oil dependence.
U.S. Politicians saying our oil is "too dirty" is just a load of political crap!
YOU ARE EXACTLY RIGHT, this stupid bitch in the video talking like she having orgasm she doesn't know the TOXIC hell that awaits alberta, some of it is already there just go and see the toxic pools of shit that will forever be a moonscape
sourmanofcoal: It sounds like you could use a good orgasm OR an effective medication for your anger and jealousy issues!! You haven't a clue what you're talking about! Become an activist for the murderer in the White House instead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
alberta oil sands have toxic pools besides them it continues to expand and is currently leaking into the river 56 59' N 111 26' W and areas up the river towards the mining operations, and toxic pools are along the river, please SHUT TA FUCK UP as you know nothing and only speak from emotion.
And if you really look into Oil Sands Exploration you'll see that the industry is taking steps to improve on the HSE (health, safety & environment) even more. We in the Oil & Gas Industry here in Alberta want to protect the environment more than you would think...our careers depend on it. We have Evironmentalists that test recieving soils, drilling fluids & cuttings/waste..everything we use is disposed of properly and safely. It's not perfect...but it's a start and it can only get better.
everybody needs oil. china is in the middle of a boom. the cities are growing at a incredible rate. there is a huge demand in that country and other countries all over the world. The Oil Sands are going to help these countries develop....like it or not....along with the The New Canadian West. You can all cry about alternative fuels.....but until these fuels are economical and readily available to everybody , expect oil to keep going strong and putting my kids through university. thx Alberta.
Join us in fucking up the environment, with no plan for the waste we create. Don't worry industries we trust you to report all your environmental problems - As long as the money keeps flowing into gov't coffers.
Yep the US is sucking Alberta's oil but Americans are paying high gas prices meanwhile China is getting it cheap from the US Govt...and you think we're dumb, at the end of the day we're getting richer and you're paying more at the pumps...So if anyone should be laughing it's Canada not you. ROLMFAO!!!
god bless america, america doses't need anyone in the world to survie, america will roll ur country for its resorces and move onto the next. to keep its people happy what most coutries are finding hard to do.
god bless america god bless bush god bless our politions. long live bush, pray for another term of bush
fuck you asshole terriost, US cares about the future of humanity everytime it does something. it will make sure humanity will contuine. which why we spend so much on our defence, our defence buget is greater the defece spending of the whole world combined. we spend this so we can maintain peace and harmony and allow resorces to flow from unstable areas of the world. if we did't care about the world we would by plasma tvs and more computers and cars with this huge amount of monney
you fucking square head,Bush is the fucking terrorist, yes he is,on 911 why the fucking planes hit the fucking towers dude en??In the old countries like Irak and bla bla bla,I don't belive they like the american way,The American Economy, and all thats american, peace and harmony my fucking ass,you declare war to other countries, for oil, vengeance?canada use to be a good country, now its like americans,it sucks VERY BAD
I guess you don't travel to much,go see how much America is hated,Sorry YOU SUCK.
LOL, world consumes 90 million barrels per day at todays times. But Alberta will only process 3 million barrels per day even in 2020. Its pretty much useless having to mine these. We're screwed!!! Get ready for major third world war in 20 years.
I'm sure they will, to bad for the United States Canada has not burned all their bridges, sure U.S.A's army is great, 10 times the size of the Canadian army, but in this world, Oil is everything and all of the country's that would befriend Canada would leave the States a powerless country. (United Kingdom, China, Russia, Japan ect).
and remember The Unites States and Canada are allies, so none of this would happen anyways.
HA alberta alone is now the largest provider of oil! and Alberta is the most rich Provence in Canada and richer then any other state in Americak Go Canada! Go Alberta!
People look at U.S.A as this great place, it is the top entertainment hub of the world and so much happens there and it is a beautiful country and think it is just a rich amazing place but people forget, in this day and age oil is everything.
Because oil output peaked in much of the rest of the world, and the growth of China and India, the price of oil has risen a lot, and won't come down. I don't trust industry to do this extraction in an environmentally sensitive way. I don't trust the Alberta government to regulate industry and promote competition. It takes nearly as much energy to extract this oil as is reaped by it down the line. Why isn't there more discussion of conservation?
What a joke, they don't give a shit about the environment. They are clear cutting thousands of trees and wasting tonnes of water. All this destruction to send the oil to other countries. Alberta is the worlds worst polluter.
Dude the americans are technically bankrupt...if they want to eliminate any of their debts anytime soon they have to put away 54 Trillion (thats right with a "T") NOW
wow...we should do more business with china...damn they got money to spend. and germany? didn't see that one. thanks for the CIA website. and yea...canadas #14 & usa on the bottom. maybe canada should buy the usa...might be a good investment..
Absolutely. We need to do more business with China and everyone else for that matter. We export 80% to the US. If we don't diversify now when the US economy tanks we get dragged down with it.
Canadians are buying Florida real estate in droves. Florida is not even bottomed out yet but you can buy about 5 houses in Florida for the price of 1 in Vancouver.
but if we do not include the far east...we most certainly are richer that our southern neibors
however canada would not be much without the states, most of he money we have here comes from the states, since we export 80% 'ish of all uor products to the US
Extracting oil from the tar sands takes approximately 5 barrels of fresh water, and up to 1000 cubic feet of natural gas, to extract 1 barrel of oil. Current wastewater covers an area the size of ENGLAND. In theory, if we extracted all the oil, we'd pollute the equivalent of 10 Lake Superiors, and if we burned it all, we'd definitely go into unpredictable, severe climate change. We can't afford NOT to leave that oil in the ground.
For those of us who look at the big picture, the reason that the oil sands are booming is because conventional oil is becoming scarce. It has recently become expedient to extract the oil from the sand. The US is in desperate need of this new oil supply. We are reaching a global limit to how much oil we can produce, but demand for oil is growing.
No mention of recent corporate moves to ship raw bitumen out of Canada either. If Alberta does nothing about exporting of stable production jobs, all they have left is a boom-and-bust construction sector, which is a big mistake.
cranky, if u haveyourpapers, as in aticket orsomething, especially as a welder, u could easily get a great paying job. How do i know? im a machinist apprentice, i work with welders everyday! seriously, u should come here and make some money! welding is in great demand at all oil plants here

They would love to go to China and India where polution is ten times worse, but realize that they would probably be censored and executed.

Nature is incredibly homeostatic!
michael747195 3 years ago
and in south america, oil "bubbles" out of the ground into ponds and there is a thriving ecosystem around these ponds. and the oilsands....they have been there for eons and the ecosystem flourished. the extraction may temporarily "mar" the landscape, but it is all reclaimed in the end.
alienincognito 3 years ago
michael747195, Since when does CO2 stimulate plant growth supporting more life? Studies have shown that increased CO2 levels does lead to increased growth, however, the nutrient levels in these plants/crops are not increased. What does this mean? It means that more of these plants/crops will need to be consumed just to receive the same nutritional benefits.. . Tailings ponds are extremely toxic, so where do the toxins go when the water evaporates?
magij333 3 years ago
Fuck give your head a shake! You asked "so where do the toxins go when the water evaporates?"
Where did the toxins come from? They where there naturaly but now they are in a less toxic state. So couldnt you agree that because of the oil sand companys the oil sands are being cleaned up??

so u want Alberta to stop drilling, mining, and manufacturing oil???? have fun whem the gas prices rise to over 4,00 a litre, and damn USA might just start a war with Canada, because now they have to pay as much as Canada does for oil and gas, being because Alberta is USAs top oil supplier, because of us, they're price on oil is still only half of what we pay in Canada!!
hyperlightcaf 3 years ago
hyperlight: I have never said I want Alberta to stop drilling, mining and manufacturing oil. I DON'T! If the U.S. doesn't want our 'dirty' oil (as they describe it) China wants it very badly.

It is the most accessible and reasonable and will free them from middle east oil dependence.

they do take our oil, it supplys 40% of their demand. We are now looking at shipping our oil to China because they are willing to pay more.
VvredknightvV 3 years ago
Yes, I realize that. However; American politicians have recently been bitching that our oil is too dirty and too difficult to refine. Fine with me.
Let China have first 'dibs' on our oil. They have the $, we have the oil!

It's not perfect...but it's a start and it can only get better.
alienincognito 3 years ago
everybody needs oil. china is in the middle of a boom. the cities are growing at a incredible rate. there is a huge demand in that country and other countries all over the world. The Oil Sands are going to help these countries develop....like it or not....along with the The New Canadian West. You can all cry about alternative fuels.....but until these fuels are economical and readily available to everybody , expect oil to keep going strong and putting my kids through university. thx Alberta.

(United Kingdom, China, Russia, Japan ect).
and remember The Unites States and Canada are allies, so none of this would happen anyways.

Why isn't there more discussion of conservation?

wow...we should do more business with china...damn they got money to spend. and germany? didn't see that one. thanks for the CIA website. and yea...canadas #14 & usa on the bottom. maybe canada should buy the usa...might be a good investment..
alienincognito 3 years ago
Absolutely. We need to do more business with China and everyone else for that matter. We export 80% to the US. If we don't diversify now when the US economy tanks we get dragged down with it.
Canadians are buying Florida real estate in droves. Florida is not even bottomed out yet but you can buy about 5 houses in Florida for the price of 1 in Vancouver.
nibelungensohn 3 years ago
...canada as a whole...no
but if we do not include the far east...we most certainly are richer that our southern neibors
however canada would not be much without the states, most of he money we have here comes from the states, since we export 80% 'ish of all uor products to the US
tomgroenland 4 years ago
Extracting oil from the tar sands takes approximately 5 barrels of fresh water, and up to 1000 cubic feet of natural gas, to extract 1 barrel of oil. Current wastewater covers an area the size of ENGLAND. In theory, if we extracted all the oil, we'd pollute the equivalent of 10 Lake Superiors, and if we burned it all, we'd definitely go into unpredictable, severe climate change. We can't afford NOT to leave that oil in the ground.

Alberta $70,000
My town(wetaskiwin) $46,000 Ouch what a getto town
netook8 4 years ago
For those of us who look at the big picture, the reason that the oil sands are booming is because conventional oil is becoming scarce. It has recently become expedient to extract the oil from the sand. The US is in desperate need of this new oil supply. We are reaching a global limit to how much oil we can produce, but demand for oil is growing.
