They naturally don't like water but you need to bathe them, regardless. You can clearly see her feet touching the floor. i sleep with my guinea pig, and he usually bites my hand in the morning so i left him on the floor... But i wash him with a wet towel cause i am not confident on throwing him down the water... cruel...

I work in a Guinea Pig Shelter and none of the pigs there like getting a bath. Whether it's in a sink or a shallow tub. They may not like it, but it's necessary. As long as you're careful, letting a guinea pig swim, or giving them a bath in a shallow tub is just fine.
In the video the user notes the difference in the pig from sink-bathing to the bathtub.
Now, A) the pig has shown from the sink-bath that she doesn't like the water and
B) the only reason she's not behaving the same way in the tub is because she can't see a way out and can't get a grip on the floor of the tub. Please don't assume your pet is fine with something because it doesn't seem to be struggling, when the reason for that could be that it doesn't have the option of doing so.
Animals won't get upset if they freely enter water, but if you try to give them a bath they think you are punishing them or trying to hurt them. My dogs go swimming in puddles, in streams or in the sea, nearly every day, but they behave as though I am going to kill them if I have to bath them (only very rare necessity)

Some of them like water and enjoy a bath from time to time as long as the water isn't too deep for them. This piggie can tough the bottom EASILY. I use to only clean my Twix about every half a year or so - she died around age 6 :( was a right gorgeous girlie, was an American Crested. Miss her lots.
I think the pig wants out. My pigs dont like bathing either, so I wash their butts and feet sometimes to keep them clean. Wash them in a sink with guinea pig shampoo, they will get less scared and will like the clean sensation later. Mine loves to be dried with a towel.

I have had a variety of guinea pigs over the years.. i had one in particular who loved water.. i mean he would be sooo soo happy when i filled the tub up and i set up little steps in there for him he could rest on.. he would swim and swim and when he got tired he would rest.. and swim some more.. when he wanted out he came over to my hand which was constantly there in the water and he got out... dried him off and he was soo happy..
each one has a personality and they are individualized...about 2/3 of the gps i had liked water.. but the one i was mentioning was a lil chunky and it was his exercise.. and he rather enjoyed it..i found similar attitudes with birds.. i had one bird that had issues with his own water bowl.. and one who loved to be misted ...o btw.. i also box trained one of my gps.. that was awesome
i also think that if the animals..pretty much any animal has positive experiences with water when it is young then it tends to like the experience more..i have had a lot of experiences with abused animals..it is all how you handle them and approach new things

this is incorrect to assume that ALL gps dont like to swim..some do and some dont.. its about how you approach the new things and deal with the situation and you would also need to be very aware of your gps feelings on things and be able to respect that..

I have four guinea pigs and you can even read in SO many books and websites that baths are NOT BAD FOR GUINEA PIGS! They are actually a good way to help two guinea pigs that arent getting along to try and get them to become friends by giving them a bath together. The water is shallow and your pig can touch the ground. VERY cute pig btw =)
Thank you. I guarantee this is not harming my dear guinea pig. Also, she was only in the water a couple of minutes, with her feet on the ground most of the time. I am very surprised at all the shrieking comments over this, considering that when I've posted this video other places -- guinea pig communities -- the reaction was very favorable.

OMG. shut up. I have my rats swim around like that in the tub. Its good for excercise AND bathtime. Especially if you have an animal that can no longer get around that well on a flat surface and just scoots, water excercise is great, and even can be therapeutic. Granted. ANY animal that is put in water will initially want out. Even many dogs. These animals aren't in the water for hours. More like a couple minutes. Just to wash off and get a good excercise in.

But that's not the end of the bath. The tap will keep running and it'll get deeper, like in the other video from this user. In the other video she said she'd only let the pig stay in the deep water (ie too deep to stand in) for 2 mins. The pig is in fear & the whole of those 2 mins is probably wondering when it's energy to stay afloat will run out.
It's good you take the time to clean your piggi. All the people saying this is cruel and horrible are ignorant people. Everyone needs to take a bath once in a while.

Wow some people here should shut up before they post - They clearly know nothing about guinea pigs.
Some of them like water and enjoy a bath from time to time as long as the water isn't too deep for them. This piggie can tough the bottom EASILY. I use to only clean my Twix about every half a year or so - she died around age 6 :( was a right gorgeous girlie, was an American Crested. Miss her lots.

I think the pig wants out. My pigs dont like bathing either, so I wash their butts and feet sometimes to keep them clean. Wash them in a sink with guinea pig shampoo, they will get less scared and will like the clean sensation later. Mine loves to be dried with a towel.

I rarely gave my guinea pigs baths, mainly because the natural oils from their fur clean them, and also, they can clean themselves.

I have had a variety of guinea pigs over the years.. i had one in particular who loved water.. i mean he would be sooo soo happy when i filled the tub up and i set up little steps in there for him he could rest on.. he would swim and swim and when he got tired he would rest.. and swim some more.. when he wanted out he came over to my hand which was constantly there in the water and he got out... dried him off and he was soo happy..

each one has a personality and they are individualized...about 2/3 of the gps i had liked water.. but the one i was mentioning was a lil chunky and it was his exercise.. and he rather enjoyed it..i found similar attitudes with birds.. i had one bird that had issues with his own water bowl.. and one who loved to be misted ...o btw.. i also box trained one of my gps.. that was awesome

i also think that if the animals..pretty much any animal has positive experiences with water when it is young then it tends to like the experience more..i have had a lot of experiences with abused animals..it is all how you handle them and approach new things

These little pigs aren't made for takin' a bath or something just for fun! guinea pig means in German sea pig (meerschweinchen), but every little kid knows that it's just a name and that these pigs doesn't like to swim, they are afraid of it!!!! Please don't do this again!

Guniea pigs do need baths and some enjoy it. But, I only place mine in 1/2 deep water.

this is incorrect to assume that ALL gps dont like to swim..some do and some dont.. its about how you approach the new things and deal with the situation and you would also need to be very aware of your gps feelings on things and be able to respect that..

OMG, guinea pigs don't love water. it's their natural fear to drown in water. also, getting water in their ears can cause them to lose their hearing. for gods sake, don't do this again!

I have four guinea pigs and you can even read in SO many books and websites that baths are NOT BAD FOR GUINEA PIGS! They are actually a good way to help two guinea pigs that arent getting along to try and get them to become friends by giving them a bath together. The water is shallow and your pig can touch the ground. VERY cute pig btw =)

Thank you. I guarantee this is not harming my dear guinea pig. Also, she was only in the water a couple of minutes, with her feet on the ground most of the time. I am very surprised at all the shrieking comments over this, considering that when I've posted this video other places -- guinea pig communities -- the reaction was very favorable.

OMG. shut up. I have my rats swim around like that in the tub. Its good for excercise AND bathtime. Especially if you have an animal that can no longer get around that well on a flat surface and just scoots, water excercise is great, and even can be therapeutic. Granted. ANY animal that is put in water will initially want out. Even many dogs. These animals aren't in the water for hours. More like a couple minutes. Just to wash off and get a good excercise in.

But that's not the end of the bath. The tap will keep running and it'll get deeper, like in the other video from this user. In the other video she said she'd only let the pig stay in the deep water (ie too deep to stand in) for 2 mins. The pig is in fear & the whole of those 2 mins is probably wondering when it's energy to stay afloat will run out.
