  • Scare tactics, give me a break... You wouldn't believe how many of my calls and repairs are from homeowners trying to save a buck. But no, go ahead install all you want. The difference is that when I install something, I put it in so that I'll never have a problem with it. This video doesn't show you what to do with a broken flange that cast iron does it? Not all toilets come up without a problem.

  • Couldnt have said it better myself. See the point it that there is a reason for professionals. Homeowner fix at your own risk

  • 9) Figure out why he just used "crack" and "bowl" in the same sentence

    10) Sue the moron that did that shitty tile job around a 1/2 inch pipe

    11) Caulk the base so you will never know if the wax leaks and your floor rots

    12) Grab a magazine and take a shit

    13) in a year, thank the morons that made this video for your leaking toilet and rotting subfloor.

  • Translation,,,,

    1) Learn how to read a tape measure

    2) Shut off poorly mounted supply that probably won't work

    3) Get your "ho" to suck out excess water

    4) Use halfass wrench to ensure you strip off the nuts

    5) Plug hole with rag so your house doesnt smell like a Detroit hooker

    6) After finding the huge hole, rock it like a virgin on prom night

    7) Strip the nuts off again with a gilligan wrench again

    8) Figure out the caps won't go on without cutting off the bolts

  • @tconst17 you think you're funny - but you're not. Translation: Racist, yes. Funny, no.

  • 29 people are confused by this video.

  • @blva888 How can you possibly be confused?? Pretty straightforward, if you ask me....My 12 yr old daughter could do it!

  • @jeep2010girl I have no idea how any one can be confused, but apparently 29 people must be.

  • oh and dont use caulk if the area under you're toilet is a finished area. You will surely have a mold issue if it leaks and wont even realize it. Rather to let it leak onto the bathroom floor so you know you have the leak before you have a carpenter come in with the plumber

  • Well im a plumber and i can tell you home owners always crack the porcelain on the bowl and the tank and forget the wax ring, forget the tank gasket, turn the water on before actually attaching it to the tank, etc.... Leave it to a professional folks you'll save money

  • @downtownchampion you mean you will make money

  • @downtownchampion Err, wrong. Just installed 3 today in the house and it only took a few hours. It is a very simple task. If you follow the instructions anyone could do it. You, as in plumbers, just want to make a easy few hundred bucks.

  • Home owners in Ethiopia?

  • @downtownchampion way to use scare tactics for business! I've never done anything like this before but by watching the video and following the steps closely I installed two toilets. It took a while, but I didn't crack the bowl, no leaks and they both work perfectly.

  • Should have been a pressured assisted toilet.

  • that dude who did this tutorial is good at his job.

  • I'm no handyman at all whatsoever, but with this video I successfully installed our toilet and now I want to do everything around here with Home Depot videos Thanks for this!

  • Home Depot rules.

  • dont forget the most important step ..take a shit to ensure you dont have major technical difficulties that ends with casualties

  • A big one too. You have to be sure

  • If you plan on removing and replacing your bathtub drain you will need this amazing new tool the EzXtractor. You will be finished the job in minutes nothing is easier or faster

  • I'm not a plumber , but this guy doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.. Even I know better than that.. By the way he looks retarded with that bright ass apron.. Home Depo sucks! & this video too..

  • only a few mistakes. 1 install the wax ring to the toilet flange, not the toilet. 2 when installing new toilet to new wax ring push evenly down...dont rock or you will cause a leak. 3 use plastic shims not wood

  • The two most common areas that I've seen fail in my rental properties is the water inlet valve at the bottom usually fails because of age, and the float mechanism gets stuck causing the water to run continuously.

  • he said spruce...

  • I just did this tonight for the first time. When I watched this video I thought -- they make it look easier than it really is. You know what? It really is that easy. I am far from a handy guy, and I knocked it out in 90 minutes.

  • DONT FORGET TO REMOVE THE TOWEL IN DRAIN THATS STOPPING SEWER GASES

  • where did the wood go that he placed inbetween the toilet and the floor do you remove those after ?

  • If you just caulk around the front half of the bowl to the floor, the back will still allow evidence of seal leakage. The front half is where most of the liquid or debris would likely get under the bowl.

  • SPEEDY VALVE !!!! CHECK IT OUT ON YOU TUBE MAKES THIS EASY!!!!

  • you guys should check out speedyvalve it makes this job easy

  • Something else to keep in mind if you need shims.Place them around the back section of the toilet and use plastic or some other material that will not absorb water and deteriorate.Wood shims are great for many things;but not for toilets.Slide your shims around the toilet until it sits level, mark the shim where it has to be cut, place a pencil mark on the toilet bowl so you will be able to slide your shim in the exact spot, remove, cut and reinstall.Snug the toilet bolts and you should be all set.Al

  • I just installed a new self checkout for Homedepot. the same day i bought a toliet after the install. I so I figure hey I can get my buddy to do it. But today I found this video and I install my first toilet with no leaks :) I feel like a better man now lol

  • Where can I buy the soundtrack?

  • @whirlpoolzend At the Home Depot

  • I agree with barnstormer601 and and axleblakhart but usually I put wax on the floor first and then I place the toilet on the floor., correct me if i am doing wrong.

  • Two things. I had heard about NOT caulking around the toilet base as well. If it leaks, you want to know before it travels down to the next floor ruining two rooms instead of one. The other is Wooden shims? They rot. They sell plastic toilet shims cheaply and they won't rot.

  • @jamo387 I agree, but how about using clear caulking only in a few places, just to secure the toilet some. My new toilet is going to be installed above a basement storage area, all piping is exposed there. I am not sure if I want to caulk it until I see how the well the toilet seats to the slate flooring.

  • The new toilet has a soft toilet seat. The soft sets are so comfortable.

  • You don't caulk around the base... Ask Mike Holmes about that one...

  • in UK the water doesn't go out the bottom but out the back, i only just realised!

  • Use LiquiLock to keep the water from spilling out when pulling the toilet! It solidifies the water into a gel. Check out the video by searching "liquilock" on youtube or you google liquilock to buy it

  • @liquilock I can't think of a bigger waste of money and time.

  • @weewaa101 you're an asshole.

  • WHAT HAPPEN TO THE SHIMS ? DID HE REMOVE THEM OR CUT THEM, THAT PART I WANTED TO KNOW ?????

  • @AKILLIAN2 You normally cut the shims with a sheetrock knife, cut the face and then bend towards the side that you just cut until it snaps. I don't agree with using wood shims on a toilet though. They sell non organic shims that won't rot.

  • @AKILLIAN2 you leave the shim in place, preferrably after cutting off the excess portion, that's the whole idea behind getting the toilet leveled.

  • how are there dislikes to this video?! WTF

  • Never rock your toilet to that extreme as the wax seal will settle down with simple amount of pressure applied. Always use new T-bolts as this will save you some frustration with the install.Tighten the tank enough so that it does not rock on the bowl.Tighten the tank staggering the tightening (tighten each sides a little at a time) so that it goes onto the bowl level. By tightening the tank a lot on one side ;it is possible to tighten down the other side and crack the the tank.Good luck

  • @TheOldkid888 How do I put new bolts if tile is blocking the old ones and I am unable to remove them. I can get them loose but cant remove them I would have to chip some tile and i scared of that. what do you recomment sir?

  • @TheChemist187 Hello there; Great question?I have come across this a few times. If you installed the tile yourself;then it is up to you to fix the problem.Home Depot sell small drill bits that drill ceramic tile very easily and can remove this tile to allow you to insert new t-bolts.I only say to use new because it can be very difficult to get the nuts on the old ones. You can also use a masonary bit and use a regular drill. This procedure will take a little longer, but will definitely work.G.L. Al

  • @TheOldkid888 Thank you for your help, and no I did not do the tile myself. When I bought the house it was already done.

  • @TheChemist187 Hello there; You should have no problem. These new bits buzz through the tile very easily. I have used several of them. Good luck with your project and have a great day!!! Al

  • Did he remove the rag from when he plugged up the hole???

  • my toilet is 20 years old. i tried to remove the bolts but they wont move

  • caulk around the base? I find that kind of pointless since it makes it harder to remove if you ever do in the future.

  • @grassmanmatt

Applying sealant around the base of a toilet is a means of keeping adjacent bath/shower water from infiltrating under the toilet.

  • home depots bad practices i guess

  • Can't you all just get along? Its just a toilet.

  • For good tips and advice clearwatersplumbing, this is a great site for tips and advice on construction in and around the house.

  • Installing wood shims under your toilet as he did in the video, is not a good idea. The wood will rot and crumble and the toilet will move. .

  • @BaldheadPlumber Thats why you use plastic shims.

  • @BaldheadPlumber True!

  • Toilets are very simple to install infact you can make your own toilet using a few simple tools, firstly you will need a bucket, preferbally garden pots are ideal, drill a hole in the centre to allow the excretion to flow through, you may need to invest in air freshners as the smell can become quite revolting, simply attach a garden hose where you can sit and flush away, you should clear any debris and any foul bits and pieces in a matter of moments

  • I watched the HGTV show American Handyman, and I learned that you are not supposed to caulk around the toilet bottom. Really, has anyone ever seen caulking around the bottom? Not standard practice.

  • This guide was very useful… I used it in installing my very first toilet. Very helpful.

  • ROCK DA BOW

  • I don't caulk the base of the toilet for the simple reason that, if the wax ring is leaking, I'm going to want to see that leak. If the caulk keeps the water under the toilet it will seep down and damage the sub flooring.

  • @barnstormer601 I believe it....This is exactly what a home inspector told me.

  • @barnstormer601 yes but you shouldnt caulk the bass of the toilet straight away! use it for a bit to make sure there is no leaks

  • @barnstormer601 Excellent point... thanks for mentioning this.

  • it's funny he wears gloves to remove the water but use bare hands to unscrew the bolts. There probably more bacteria built up than in the bowl.

  • Great job. This video is nicely done, well explained and very informative.

  • okay........................

  • ignorance is expensive....how much this would have caused hiring a guy to do it for me!

  • @alexgomez83 about $70 a toilet!

  • I like that idea about the boards axleblackhart. As far as the rag left in the drain, well, I don't think I would have admitted to that so your alright in my book. I think some common sense can go along way with these projects.

  • Never rock the toilet back and forth when installing because that will break the seal

  • Thank you Buddy!

  • FULL COOL MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What nitwit is going to forget to take the rag out before putting the toilet in place. If you forget to take the rag out, you probably shouldn't be installing a toilet.

  • this video was very helpful!! but my valve did not work and bought a speedyvalve by floodmaster and it allowed my work to continue

  • okay he left out how to put the base bolts in

  • great vid lots of help!!!

  • excelent

  • In this video, a 3.5-gpf Kohler Wellworth is being replaced with a 1.6-gpf American Standard Cadet 3.

  • mcgmark = Small minded fool

  • you forgot to remove the rag....it will just give you a big and messy job

  • As a child, Did the bathtub ever looked out of place to you sitting in the side of the restroom? Meaning it is out of geometry in a square room?

  • You should really put the wax ring on the toilet flange first!!

  • @gilbertrr Why? Why not the toilet first?

  • I do install toilet as this video, but my toilet leak water at bottom. Can some one help, please?

  • Hi Adrian! cool....

  • DON'T FORGET TO REMOVE THE RAG BEFORE YOU PUT THE NEW TOILET DOWN!!!!

  • There is a very good chance this was the first time this guy has changed out a toilet! If he is like the sales associates that "volunteer" to do the "how to clinics" at your local H.D he just read a "how to book" off one of the H.D shelves and B.S his way through it. At least thats how they did it at the H.D I use to work at.

  • @crenshawboy2 He's a actor...I've seen him in a few sitcoms...Hard for me to take this serious! They hired a actor to show us how to install a toliet. That's why he forgot the rag in the drain.

  • thanks this was great help

  • lol..funny, at the end he flushed to toliet

  • "If it measures 12" you're in luck"

  • @Tonemonger LOL very lucky!!!

  • what happens with the shims he used?

  • @rollerskater Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Anyone know what thats all about?

  • In the UK the waste pipe goes through the wall! It also extends to the roof level to vent gas off. We also never fitted isolation valves or flow restrictors until about 10 years ago as standard.

  • He did forget to put the white plastic washer (not shown) under the metal one. This is the washer that holds the snap caps on.

  • someone's gotta auto-tune this, its awesome!

  • lol thats funny man

  • Its works

  • try melting the wax a little with a lighter, worked for me

  • this was AMAZING

  • This was easy and vert well explained. Thanks for the lesson.

  • Hey, put the rag in the drain immediately after removing the bowl, at the very least before removing the wax. Dropping wax down the drain can be a real nightmare.

After putting the wax ring on the toilet turn it over and set on two boards so the wax ring doesn't touch the floor. If you set it on the floor, as in the video the ring will compress and no longer be usable.

  • @axleblackhart Good point!

  • What happened to the rag he stuffed inside the sewer???

  • oops! He forgot to tell me to remove the rag, now my whole septic is screwed up because of a rag somewhere in the system!! Ugh!!

  • (just kidding) but removing the rag from the sewer pipe is a really important point!!!

  • @fefcyouthinfo Did you also get sick because he did not talk about washing your hands.

  • @fefcyouthinfo

If you are serious, you really shouldn't be doing your own home repairs. You sir, are a class 1 retard.

  • @fefcyouthinfo LOL good observation

  • @fefcyouthinfo Common sense should always take presidence..

  • @fefcyouthinfo they assume that those who watch the video have common sense.

  • @fefcyouthinfo sue them

  • @fefcyouthinfo yeah... and the toilet still has shims sticking out!!!

  • The guy replaced a 3.5gpf Kohler Wellworth with a 1.6gpf American Standard Cadet 3.

  • Here's a tip. If you're buying a toilet, try to get one that has standard replacement parts readily available everywhere. Some toilets require parts made ONLY by the maker of the toilet and that's a pain in the ass trying to find them, especially if the toilet is over five years old.

By the way, this video reminds me of that old Hues Corporation song of the 70's, Rock The Bowl... Don't tip the shit over..." Uh... Maybe I have that wrong...

  • More info on shims would be good

Don't rock the toilet down on the new wax.

  • Great video. Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • shut up pepole that bag him out hes only doing his job

  • Will be replacing my 2 piece toilet with a 1 piece. This was REALLY helpful. Thanks.

  • This is good stuff:) So replacing a toilet isn't really a crappy job after all:) haha. But seriously, I did benefit from this video. Most of the people here who are bashing this video are kids who live in their parents house who don't help out with home projects and repairs and just ask for money when they want to go out:) haha.

  • Bend at the knees?

  • hey when you blocked the pipe with the toliet paper, did u ever take it out? or did u leave the toliet paper there and put the new toliet over it?

  • this is stupid

  • @mrDJC1 No mean't to be entertaining. It is to help people like myself who need to get home repairs done, can't afford someone to come in and do it for us, so we do it ourselves. How is that stupid??

  • @alwaysinhoth2o You don't have the money to pay a plumber or know how to replace a toilet, but following your comments my guess is that you are a prejudice african-american mind reader and an assumptive nosy do-gooder. That is a poor combination. Get it?

  • @1angrywhite No, I don't get it 1angrywhite! I, like you, am white however I don't know what that has to do with plumbing! Talk about prejudice! Based on your comment, your looking for any and every reason to to assume whatever bullshit plagues your hateful mind. I would say your hateful heart but I am not sure you have one. Is it fun spending your life being angry and hateful? Glad I don't know you

  • wow this is in funny pranks wth?

  • i am dead!

  • i think it's funny how everyone was hoping this would be funny lolz

  • ohmi theres tons and tons of toilets! i dont know what ones to choos from!

land i like to replace my toilet everyday!

  • this was so nt funn i seached funny videos nd found this

  • lol

  • this is the best video ever !OMG!

  • i searched funny and this came up?

  • wat the crap! lol!

  • HAND TIGHTIN THE NUTS

  • can anyone help me replace a dam toilet my bf sat on my toliet and it broke the toliet

  • sounds like hes fat

  • he forgot to take the plastic

  • BAHAHAHAHAHAHA OMFG, this is so funnny XDDDDD

  • thanks that really helped me:)

  • this is off the chang

  • man, if you're gonna make a video for helping people, dont skip steps....or important pieces.

The caps would just be spinning on top of that bolt since he didnt cut them, never mind the fact thats there no span washer on the bottom if he did cut them to keep the cap from spinning. Metal on porcelean=rust.

put the wax ring on the bowl, thats just dumb, it would fall off.

And if your tank nuts are loose enough to take off by hand, make sure you get the person to put it in fired.

  • how should I put the wax ring? How to secure it, that it dont moves? Our down stairs lady always keeps telling me that our toilet bowl runs.... What to do?

  • put the bolts into the toilet flange, secure them so they dont move with washers and nuts. Then put the wax ring on the toilet flange itself. Set the toilet on top of that, put the plastic washer down first, then the metal one, then the nut, carefully tighten both sides evenly. once tight use a hacksaw blade to cut the bolts. snap on caps. and if your toilet is running, just replace the flush valve (also called a ballcock, tehe) cheaper than replacing the whole toilet. $8.00 vs 50

  • one more thing, if its your toilet, when you set it down on the wax ring, sit on it and pick your feet up then wiggle yourself back and forth slightly. Boss use to laugh his butt off at me when i did it, but when you're settin a row of 12 toilets in a couple of hours, you find quick ways to do it lol

  • @brezno1950 The stopper in the tank isn't sealing, so it alway loses water and keeps filling back up. Be my guess

  • let me see

  • whats yo email address?

  • chk ur youtube mailbox, i jus sent it
