GeForce 8800 GTX with 681 million transistors was launch in november 8th 2006 and ps3 in november 11th.The gpu on the ps3 was already obsolete in launch day.
Next time sony designs a console, make it backwards compatible on all models, So fucked off that when I was forced to buy a PS3 slim after my 60GB fat model stopped working and sony wanted $300 for repairs, I thought fuck it for $100 more I can get a PS3 slim with 320GB HDD brand new. The next system better have good compatibility with the CELL processor that the PS3 used. I miss all those good PS2 titles... Sony are banking on our misery though... FFS
i own both systems but i have to admit that this generation xbox was better. I buy and play 90% of games on 360. Most of the time they look better and play better. The only 2 games i actually enjoyed on ps3 were MGS4 and Uncharted 2. Killzone i thought was shit. This gen definetly goes xbox.

I had all 3 systems, until my 360 died, it was too pathetic that it didnt even get RROD, it only got 2 red lights without an error code on the screen. @willmill77642 No, that's actually incorrect. What Sony were developing before the Wii was released was a wand with a ball on top of it that could be tracked by Eyetoy. It had no internal motion sensors or buttons. The final version (Move) is a rip-off of the Wii remote. Simple as that.

@Droid360 RSX is more advanced.it does 1.8 teraflops when Xenos does 1.2 teraflops.RSX does more shader operations per secons.It has slightly less transistors when alone,but with the cell it has 600 m transistors.

And the Xenos GPU utilizes Unified shader arctitecture wich basically makes it easier to execute vertex and pixel shader operations. It's the same Shader Model but basically more pipelines means less bottlenecking. And having 48 Unified pipelines is alot more flexible than having 8 vertex and 24 dedicated pixel pipelines. And sure the Cell can take some pressure of off the RSX, but with a Cpu with a 16mbit/s bandbroad
@dchains not true. there was no GPU like Xenos when it has come out. Unified Shader Model became standard for PC right after X360 hit shelves. Same for 'dual core' GPUs.
RSX in other hand was as you said based on ancient PC GPU.

Everything about this presentation is so old hat. All this tech talk that most people would not care about. Nintendo's conferences from 2004, 2005, & especially 2006 captured what videogame consoles should be about.

All all the stuff mentioned here was available in prototype of PS3 that 2 HDMI, 3 Ethernet...The idea was scrapped down because of high cost to manufacture...thats why they were removed in the final product !!!

I remember being totally wowed by this when I watched it and thought this will be a great console. Luckily the $599 kept me away until $399...and I still havent bought a game for my PS3. You should do more videos about GT5's delays. I believe Sony will call the PS3 a failure publicly when PS4 is established. Ok so regardless of wther they lied or not they are still clearly doing alot more for the PS3 than Microsoft has ever done for the 360..Sony has always been the more innovative company & I think E3 2010 proved this alot.No other console is offering TRUE 3d or motion control.People will argue that PS3 copied Wii or that the Kinect is better than PS3 Move but these are things that Sony was developing & perfecting long before Microsoft & nintendo.Blutooth will always be better than infrared signal!

@willmill77642 No, that's actually incorrect. What Sony were developing before the Wii was released was a wand with a ball on top of it that could be tracked by Eyetoy. It had no internal motion sensors or buttons. The final version (Move) is a rip-off of the Wii remote. Simple as that.
If Sony are so innovative and brilliant and really had this idea first, then how come they waited until after Nintendo had stolen the market and sold 70 million units to release their version?

@Chradnev The only reason anyone can say its a "rip-off" the Wii Remote is because of the way it looks.I doubt that they "copied" Wii remote.It just happens to be a good design for what they are doing.They were actually messing around with Six-axis technology since the PS1.Six-axis is in every PS3 controller since the launch of PS3.This means that PS3 had a form of motion control before the 360.Also they did something like Kinect with the PS2 Eyetoy.

And the Xenos GPU utilizes Unified shader arctitecture wich basically makes it easier to execute vertex and pixel shader operations. It's the same Shader Model but basically more pipelines means less bottlenecking. And having 48 Unified pipelines is alot more flexible than having 8 vertex and 24 dedicated pixel pipelines. And sure the Cell can take some pressure of off the RSX, but with a Cpu with a 16mbit/s bandbroad
