Regine's creativity is shown everytime she sings her ORIGINAL SONGS and even her COVERS. No doubt about it. She may have duplicated MC's vocal style/technique but the MELODY and POWER she delivered were completely REGINE's, and NOT MARIAH's. So when Brian Mcknight heard Regine sang this song LIVE, he never heard Mariah but only REGINE that's why he was so IMPRESSED. He could not believe that an Asian singer like REGINE could sing as good or even BETTER than top American divas. :)

Look at Billie Holliday or Judy Garland, their voices are not super great but it's HOW they use it that makes them great.

I'm sorry but both of them are Mariah's interpretation of the song, Regine took Mariah's interpretation, she sang it like Mariah, the runs were exactly the same as Mariah's studio version, the music, the adlibs, the vocal build up, all the same. She used her breathy voice on the exact same place that Mariah did. A great singer is one who has musicianship, interpretive skills and originality. If your idea of great singing is easily overpowering one another then it's a shame.

The sound fidelity difference may indicate that audio was electronically manipulated in favor of Regine. We need an unbiased video to judge it.

Regine's creativity is shown everytime she sings her ORIGINAL SONGS and even her COVERS. No doubt about it. She may have duplicated MC's vocal style/technique but the MELODY and POWER she delivered were completely REGINE's, and NOT MARIAH's. So when Brian Mcknight heard Regine sang this song LIVE, he never heard Mariah but only REGINE that's why he was so IMPRESSED. He could not believe that an Asian singer like REGINE could sing as good or even BETTER than top American divas. :)

And it's not recreation, there's nothing new that has been created there. And it's not utilizing, if she was utilizing it in this performance, then she would have used it to create her own interpretation of the song. Look at Billie Holliday or Judy Garland, their voices are not super great but it's HOW they use it that makes them great.

I'm sorry but both of them are Mariah's interpretation of the song, Regine took Mariah's interpretation, she sang it like Mariah, the runs were exactly the same as Mariah's studio version, the music, the adlibs, the vocal build up, all the same. She used her breathy voice on the exact same place that Mariah did. A great singer is one who has musicianship, interpretive skills and originality. If your idea of great singing is easily overpowering one another then it's a shame.

The two singers' LIVE PERFORMANCES were being compared here. Regine sang it as FAITHFULLY as but MORE POWERFUL than Mariah's recording version while Mariah LOWERED her key and gave a MEDIOCRE interpretation. So try listening to Regine's ORIGINAL SONGS to really know her TRUE MUSICALITY. :)

@AntiBasher2 Hoarse voice doesn't equate to bad interpretation or lack of passion. If you were trying to prove that Mariah's voice has already deteriorated here, then I would have agreed with you. I would say, from a vocal aspect, you can say Regine's version is better (high notes, higher key, control) but from a musical aspect, matching the original note for note doesn't impress me. If Mariah covered I'll Be There and matched MJ note for note then I would have hated it too. That's just me.

@WestVoice Mariah has deteriorated since the late 90s so there's nothing more to prove. The fact that MC's voice was hoarse & her performance here was DUBBED made it even WORSE. Regine, on the other hand, gave a remarkable version & most importantly, it's LIVE. Only a few singers can duplicate Mariah's melismas & Regine certainly did it with flying colors. Brian Mcknight heard Regine sang it LIVE. He was so amazed that he called Regine TOP-OF-THE-LIST. So that's pretty much IMPRESSIVE. :)

@AntiBasher2 Any audio experts knows that sound production in a well controlled environ like studio sounds better than on an open arena or large concert hall. Especially if the sound is captured by a built in mic of a consumer camera of a spectator. Because of lots of images over voice edits of MC's part, this is suspect to editing manipulations. The sound fidelity difference may indicate that audio was electronically manipulated in favor of Regine. We need an unbiased video to judge it.

It's a good-quality copy because her rendition was UNDOUBTEDLY CRYSTAL CLEAR. While Mariah's was recorded from a SUPPOSEDLY LIVE concert but instead it was DUBBED to conceal her VOCAL CRACKS & to enhance her over-all audio before it was released as OFFICIAL DVD COPY. But however they hide it, MC's performance was still CRAPPY. LOL!

Actually, Mariah is the REAL COPYCAT. She used to be a Whitney-WANNABE. Everything Whitney did, Mariah just followed. But MC never reached the level of the THE VOICE. Then after DETERIORATING, she made slutty songs and videos and became a Britney-WANNABE. :)

Mrdobfine, when Mariah Carey started her singing career, AMERICAN CRITICS already noticed her singing style as very reminiscent of Whitney Houston's. Her melismas, belting & other vocal adlibs were obviously influenced by Whitney. That's why Mariah was known then as WHITNEY-WANNABE. If you could only LISTEN to Mariah's first couple of albums, it's very EVIDENT. In fact, Mariah even said Whitney is her musical INFLUENCE.
Mariah's audio recording & personal testimony clearly PROVE my point. :)

@AntiBasher2 Its a fact that MC admits Whitney as one of her influences. New comers trying to break in US music scene need not reinvent the wheels in order to succeed. But once ur, in you can define your own music. That's what MC did and it worked.
But others who are in the twilight of their careers are still struggling to even come close MC's stature. They failed miseably coz they can't even find their own niche in music. The same as they are 20 yrs ago. Impressive voice but no glory!!

The HIGHEST RESPECT Regine receives from her co-artists and MILLIONS OF FANS worldwide is certainly the GLORY she deserves. But the only thing STRUGGLING now is MARIAH's DETERIORATING CHOKING VOCALS which sad to say had blown its LAST BREATH at MJ's FUNERAL, right? LOL!

There's no need for them to sing together on one stage. With the QUALITY of their voices now, I am so confident that Regine's SOLID CRYSTAL CLEAR SKYROCKETING BELTING VOICE can easily overpower Mariah's DETERIORATING CHOKING LIPSYNCHING VOCALS anytime. This video clearly shows that. :)

If you think Regine only covers songs, then you only PROVE your IGNORANCE. Regine has dozens of ORIGINAL FILIPINO/ENGLISH SONGS and her albums were consistently PLATINUM. She made it INTERNATIONAL via her 3 MULTI-PLATINUM ALBUMS IN ASIA. Regine's 4 OCTAVE LYRIC SOPRANO SOLID SKYROCKETING BELTING vocals are comparable to voices of the GREATEST DIVAS in the WORLD. (I read your profile for some details on Regine. It appears that shes a soprano? Have you ever checked on Mariahs? Shes a contralto. Meaning Regine is able to reach notes C4-A5 or somewhere there easily. Mariah, on the other hand, can reach notes G3-G5. I got this from Wikipedia. You might oppose it with the reliability of Wiki, so feel free to correct me.)

Ah, a sentence I agree to some extend. Indeed the songs are slutty now and minorities of the songs vocals are breathy and squeaky. Take bye bye as an example. It is rather breathy but it has little prominence of squeakiness and isnt all that slutty and sexy. But Touch My Body is indeed slutty and all. So its a mixture of sexiness, emotions, relationships and fun.

Actually, Im referring to both parties, be it Mariah fans or Regines fans. From what youve written, Mariahs fans started the trouble. But arent you knowledgeable to understand that an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind? Maybe one or two is enough, but is a huge collection needed. (Im tired now so its rather senseless.)
