  • WOW !

    I'm speechless... O_o

But I must say that this video version is ten times better than the mp3 version :D

  • @MikiP Heh, I agree with you :D

No need to go speechless though, thanks! :)

  • This is extremely inspiring man.

  • I really really want to buy the MX. Sick of using digital stuff. I wanna feel that i really create the music and the MX seems to be difficult enough for me to learn it but not so easy that u cant make epic tunes with it.

This video shows that u can make really nice tracks with it LIVE, which i LOVE.

So next month I will either buy a new couch or the MX haha ^^

  • awesome 5*

  • sans doute ma préférée, good job !!

  • Wow! -Yer GOOD!

I made music like this in my home-studio in 1982...but made the mistake of sending a demo-tape called '19' to an A&R twat at Chrysalis Records called Paul Hardcastle.

  • Thanks man!

Please do tell me more. what happened after that?

  • Hardcastle? - well, I suppose he did to my first recording what Trevor Horn did to Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Relax'...'cept Trevor had the decency to share the money he made from it with them.

  • Iam alone at home anyway iam daaaaaannncingggg!!!!!

  • @oenline GOOD GOOD :D

  • Harril kixx ass bigtime!!! I am really impressed!! Fantastic work! Keep up the great work! You are great!

    Peace, Oedla

  • If you say so :D

    Thanks!

  • oh man.. some good stuff here.

I'm considering buying one, but how steep is the learning curve? I mean, I'm not musically retarded or anything, just not gonna be used to using a machine like this.

Also, are all these sounds that I'm hearing in the song pre-loaded?

  • Thanks!

There are a few things that help, for example if you have any experience with music software, or know the basics of programming synths or drums. Other than that, it's pretty simple to use. All the sounds you hear are found in the machine, and you can't load any custom sounds into it, that's a job for a sampler (Korg ESX).

  • wicked track - impressive playing.

    how old r u?

  • Thanks! I'm 20, but I was 17 when i made this.

  • really good man!

  • nice work !

  • only with Korg ElecTribe Emx-1 this track ???thanks.

  • yes

  • That video imposed me to buy that toy!

  • It's not a toy at all ;)

  • Yeah, it's sick groovebox;)

That video version is much better than mp3 version

  • only because you can see the master in action! and learn! haha

  • Awesome!Nice job!

  • Dude. I would kill to be able to compose that well.

Who's arse do I have to kick/kiss to learn?

  • I don't think this is anything special :D

You have to kick your own arse to learn. :)

  • Touche.

  • You have to kick your own arse to learn. :)

    holy words :D

  • that`s just the EMX imagine what you can do with more synthesizers

  • damn every time i listen this piece of art i almost cry

  • Keep doing epic trance. You're really amazing at it. I'm still awed by the flawless excellence of this song.

  • insane. great job using the electribe. alot of people have some overly-synthetic crap on youtube, and others... well.......you are really shining on this one.

  • Heh, well im glad that you like it! :)

I don't like this one so much, but it's great to hear that someone does! :)

    Thanks!

  • well the fuck done respect

  • Thanks!

  • Are elctribes easy to program? im thinkin about gettin one to use with my microKorg only im put off because i havent really used one before

    Thanks

  • Sometimes I pop this tune on when I'm stoned out of my lid and people ask, 'Hey, Big Pony, who is this on the radio?' And I just crack a smile and say nothing cuz a giant elephant is blocking like half my view. Rock hard Harril!

  • Nice one!

  • Well thanks!

    I don't really like it myself :(

  • Eh, well. Its pretty neat. I do some stuff but not on youtube. If you'd like you can check out my bands myspace. try searching for "Alienated Teens".

  • I'll keep that in mind. ;)

    Thanks for subscribing!

  • Where did you get this? and How much was it?

  • A local store, and it was about 650€ at the time (Almost 3 years ago)

  • woah its too good for a regular comment

  • Well, thanks anyway :D

  • Is this the same Electribe rou from enter shikari uses or does he use the esx?

  • They use an EMX, i dont know if they use an ESX also.

  • this is when groovebox's shine.. when someone masters it.

  • Ow, thanks man! I really do appreciate it :)

  • God I love this so much!! The arpeggiator part at 1:17 is so amazing. Love your stuff!

  • this is amazing

cant wait til i get an electribe!

  • This song is actually immense!!! I've got this on my ipod and listen tp it nearly every day !! BEST HARRIL SONG!! love your stuff keep it up!

  • You kick ass. I'm totally subscribin.

  • amazing dude

  • u need to make a MX tutorial

  • wow this is really sick! i love it, i gotta check out more of your music!

  • This is still my favorite Harril song :D

The arpeggio's are very different from the ones in the mp3 version though, it's almost like the ones in the mp3 are slightly out of sync. I really like the video version better...

  • whats wrong with the color of step key 2?

  • haha, that's just the black paint in the step key reflecting light from a diffrent angle. :)

  • im a big fan of psytrance your music sonds really good i realy want to start making my own can you give me eny startng tips i have no idear what to bye

  • Get some software first (FL Studio, Reason and so on), learn the basics of music. Search the google for tutorials about making electronic music.

  • thanks man keep up the good work

  • I thank you Harril

  • Hello Harril I has 2 models seen from korg side one is ELECTRIBE MX the other one is ELECTRIBE SX which is better because I wants itself to buy? thanks

  • You cant really say that for example MX is better than SX. They are two different machines. SX is a sampler, and MX is a drum machine & synthesizer. It's all about what you need.

  • Great track man, Just watch your levels. Your entire drum track is drowned by the screaming lead and the pad sits oddly in the mix. Otherwise, very well done as far as content is concerned.

  • Thanks!

Yeah, about the levels, I think that I can defend by saying that this is the second live track i've ever recorded. ;)

I have learned a bunch of new things over the last 2 years :)

But thanks anyway, all kinds of comments are appreciated!

    -HarriL

  • Wow, amazing! This is a beautiful trance song and it's one of my favorites done by you. Great Job!

  • Thanks :)

  • Hello Harril I is without words continues it

  • although the youtube version of this song is IMHO better, those arpeggios in the mp3 version ROCK. please, remake this song. i love it.

  • the bassline is great. so hard core, y'know, eurodance '92, stuff like that. this song reminds me of my childhood.

  • Heh, yeah.. I know what you are talking about :)

Im glad that someone can get childhood memories out of my tracks :D

  • hello hosni/harril please get an account with livevideo

    your top uk fan

  • You've an impressive amount of talent and skill. Made me want to get one of these boxes for a while. I've watched this vid several times now and its still good.

Those that leave negative comments are so obviously jealous.

  • Thank you very much!

Im glad you like it. This was my first video with the emx, and there's much that i'd like to do diffrently now. I mean.. just listen to that "bassline" it's awful :D

    Thanks for your comment :)

  • Nerd!!

  • You got that right :)

  • really nice track, the best one from youtube about EMX. Thank you.

  • No, thank YOU! :)

Im glad that you like it.

  • ohhh ok thank you so much.

thats a real big help :).

but what i ment by the first question was.

hmm i donno how to put it.

ohh i found the correct spelling its. crescendo, and it means 'gradual increase in loudness in a piece of music'

    thanks.

  • hey there, could you help me out.

well i have a korg ES1 mk2, i got it for christmas and i love it but. well how do i make a crashendo.? (i think thats how you spell it, but to make it get louder basicly).

ohh and how can i change the samples? and where can i get samples from?

thank you. ohh and by the way u have sum skill! i like this song the best. i wish i had a EMX or even eford one for that matter haha.

  • Hi!I really dont know what you mean by your 1st question.

To your 2nd:I havent worked on ES before, but I guess they store their samples inside the SmartMedia card.

Im sure there's something in the manual about moving samples from your computer to ES.

You can samples off the net, record them yourself,

cut clips from movies, songs etc. Remember that you cant sample anything without asking permissions first.

(didnt stop the Hiphop/house/DnB guys from sampling though)

    Thanks for your comment!

  • thanks

  • How much is that machine worth?

  • back in 2004 it was ~650€

I think you can get it for 400-500€ now

Mischpult? Midi Interface für den PC?

    Stefan

  • Well, ofcourse the prices vary from shop to shop. Mine had been in the shop as a demo model so that dropped the price a bit.Check out the eBay :)

What you need, depends on what you are going to do with it.Buy a midi interface if you use EMX with your computer. If you dont, forget it. A mixer is always a great idea if you plan on playing/having more than one hardware machine at the same time.Only thing you really need is a pair of headphones and power to your emx to get into the..groove? ;)

  • Im not 100% sure what you said there, but I have the 5-part "escape" video where I create/play/compose a song from scratch with the EMX. You might want to check it out.

    And thanks! ;)

  • Must get one of these.

  • My favorite song of you by far create a website or something I wana download this.

  • That's good technique around 1:20 where you build up the arpeggio and make the switch to the ribbon. Good trick

  • this song owns my soul, i listen to it all the time, mp3 this thing man, i will dl it for sure. This is fucking awesome, period.

  • Way cool stuff, mate.. i see someone else really digs korg..

hard trance style good stuff. My new video is up just today..

    cheers fox.

  • Hey, what would you think, if i got an electribe, could i have someone play guitar through it, while im making a pattern. or vise versa? Awesome song, btw, your video is what brought me to youtube...searched through yahoo.

    peace and thanx

  • Yes, its possible. I do it all the time actually :)

You can feed any sound into emx and use the internal effects to shape the sound you want. Heres how:

plug the guitar into the audio in. select a proper amplification mode Line/Mic (Line if you use guitar). Adjust the audio in-knob till you see the bars moving. Select "audio in+comb" as the oscillator.

  • Whenever you press a key on the synth you'll hear the guitar. To hear it straight away, without any internal processing, just press the "audio in thru"-button.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • This is one of your best song!! 5 stars!!

  • Hah! Good stuff man! I hope to get a vid of my MX skills up soon. Great synth and I love the arpeggiation.

  • amazing what a $350 box will do....MM666

  • it was more like 650€ when i bought it :D

    Still loving it :)

  • I love it excellent!

  • Is the release already finished? :P

  • Great stuff man, i take it it's just the electribe in this?

  • Thanks!

Yes, that 100% Electribe. well, 1% of goldwave recording it :)

  • Great !! I love electribe. good work

  • Teah, me too :)

Thanks for the comment & fav!

  • c'est dommage que tu ne parle pas francais? En tout cas, BRAVO mec tu déchire tout, j'aurais bein voulu te poser des question masi tu comprendra pas ^^

  • Thanks! and sorry, no, I dont speak french.

You can ask me anything you want but in english, please :)

  • Really really nice this video !!!

I like so much your composition, beautiful melodies and excelent equipment.

I dont have this precious machine !!! only i use FL Studio :)

    Listen some songs in www.drancedeejay.com

    Nice Video Man

  • Or you can save the same pattern over and over with certain parts cleared. Then you string those patterns along in song mode. I don't ever use song mode, I prefer to just play the thing like an instrument. I have a Roland MC 307 (It's barely more than a MIDI clock in my setup), the ESX1, the EMX1, a MicroKorg, and a Roland MT32 for good measure (but I won't keep it long). I play it all live, in fact, I'm about to go record a track.

  • Hey very cool. I also have an Electribe MX. My problem is I don't know how to make a song or a drum beat longer then 8 lengths. It just keeps looping over and over.

  • What Harril did, and what I do, is to mute and unmute various parts as the loop plays. This extends an 8-bar loop to infinite playability. When I had the old electribes, every change would constitute a new pattern, but now, thanks to Harril, I realized I could use one or two patterns and use mutes, filters, and even play some live to make patterns seem a lot longer.

  • Yeah i Actually have been doing that while i play my synth with my left hand to make songs, but i guess the only way we can do this is live and by hand.

  • Thanks! You might want to check your manual for the "Song" mode. I dont use it myself, but it allows you to arrange and play patterns in any order you want.

  • yep thats cool to complicated forme to figure out

(not your explanation the actual machine) keep jamming

  • that is so cool. idont know much about this but did you have to play this on a keyboard first

  • Thanks. I pre-recorded/programmed some stuff in first, like the drums and the bassline etc. And im playing here using the "keyboard" that is in this machine (buttons 1,2,3,4....16). And the playing is pretty much improvisation. I hope that answered your question.

  • Brilliant. I have one, and the arpegiator is one of the best I have ever seen!

So, you did that all with one pattern, eh? It gets me thinking of ways to better manage my own setup...

  • Thank you!

Oh yes, the arpeggiator is definately the most fun part in this machine.

And yes, that's one 128-step pattern looping there.

  • This is sick man. Now that I seen what is capable of this machinery I'm considering one. I am also one that dislikes the computer thing, although ableton live is a good program I just cant get into it as much as the real thing. This would go well with my Triton and my legacy collection.

  • Good stuff Harri :]...the Korg Electribe EMX-1 rocks.

Join my Electribe group - a place for all Electribers to discuss, share patterns, tips, tricks, bugs, troubleshooting, advice etc about the tribes and their derivatives.

    http://www.youtube.com/group/electribe

  • aw man

this is so so so good

    :]

  • actually cant stop watching this video..... i want oneeee

  • Brilliant mate. Love to be doing that. I use more softsynths. Thinking of getting the ER1mk2. how long u being doing this. got a website?

  • Thanks man! For me the hardware is the way to go. Turning the knobs feels totally different compared to moving the mouse :)

I have had EMX for over a year now and I have been making music, since 1999 or something.

And, sorry no, I dont have a proper homepage atm :)

  • Ah, this seems so cool, I know that you can do more with computer, but this feels so... organic you know? You control it all :D

I also want to buy some sound equipment, I'm figuring to buy a Roland MC-303 drumcomputer (cheap, and I've heard that you can make acids pretty easily on that thing). But is it okay to buy that second-hand?

So tell me man, what do I have to know before getting into these things?

  • its okay, but double check the machine...

    -

play live and on real instruments, thats the real thing...

    use computer only for recording!!!

    musiv non-stop!
