i do not agree with you Zooni 2.....you probably are either a british or american and naturally the full history of INA had been kept in dark to you ....... thats why you are not aware about Bose's character and resolve
I would have loved to see more information about the units that served with and also about the battles they fought. Still, I enjoyed this doc very much. Does anyone know a book that I can read that goes into greater depth about the Indians that fought with the British? I'd love to read that.
It is ironic - if indian hate the british or UK as they claim over here, why is there the largest indian community in UK now? as spies? so please stop bluffing yourself.
@AHHUAT2 they're there for opportunity..Same reason english were in india. How much wealth and labor stolen from india can never be paid back. So those indians or other minorities working in england, at the expense of other english are really only taking back whats rightfully theirs.
The Japanese where more brutal than most people know. If India thinks the INA leader died in a plane crash, they don't know the history of the Japanese and its treatment of any soldier that fails. The Chinese to this day hate the Japanese due to atrocities done to it's people when the Japanese are the occupiers. Google "The Rape of Nanking" and "Unit 731"
A very interesting story. If the INA had succeeded would India fall under Japanese rule. Anyone know the answer. It looks like a no win situation. British occupation or Japanese occupation.
Unbelievable hypocrisy. A nation is stripped of every penny. Its impoverished people, in desperate need of food, sign up with their oppressor's army. By the way, this oppressor is using these slaves to fight for "freedom of humanity". Then, the oppressor is disgusted that any of these slaves would break their oath of allegiance to their slavemaster and fight for their own freedom!
The British are justifiably proud of their sense of irony. They learned from being champions of hypocrisy.
west have always played double game with every country look how they are using pakistanis and blaming them ...4 not doing enough on war on terror ...pakis ahould learn from our history ..never trust the westerners they are assholes
@Zooni2 Come on...you had 300 million starving Indians, robbed of every penny by your Empire. No food...Churchill made sure 5 million perished in famine and ordered that no American food aid be allowed into India. As a last resort, 2.5 million of those hungry people join up with your Army to take a chance and avoid death by starvation. You call them volunteers? Starvation can make people do lots of horrible acts....even cannibalism. It does not mean people were willing cannibals.
my grandfather was a soldier under the madras light infentary in british indian army he went for war in NWFP, reported only to Rawalpindi HQ and and in Burma ,they wer disbanded in nagpur .he never got any thin from the indian government for his contribution towards the independence as we all knw our leaders traded this act for the freedom of the nation and yes it was a deal sealed over WW 2 victory ..its time to think all over again and respect the veterans for there contribution to the nation
I am a panjabi sikh and I have a hard time when I think what force to join if I was a soldier then. Be apart of the british who have not acknoledged us and gave us hardships through the years or those japs that pose a new threat. I would attomatically think of joining the japs but that would be treason to my country (sorry for not being politically corect)
This is so unfortunate. I did not know that the British Indian soldiers do not get pension from India. As an Indian, I am ashamed. Having said that, I think the responsibility of the said pension falls on Britain These soldiers fought for the empire.
On the rare occasion I used to go to the local Legion with my Grandad as a kid there was always a good number of Indians in there, playing dominoes or whatever. He fought alongside Indian and Ghurka troops in the desert and in Italy and wouldnt have a bad word said about them. On the other hand, he couldnt stand the yanks or the eyeties. All down to personal experience I guess.
My dad was in the 1st Queens in Burma alongside Sikhs and Ghurkas in the 7th Indian Division in Burma and when you describe your Grandad's feelings you could just as well be describing my dads.
Nothing but respect for them. Plus he used to say they knew how to cook up better grub. :)
@robbell And what did your motherfucking country do to the people they "respected"? Well, hold your queen's ass tight because Britain's star has set. History will throw Britain under India's boot and that white thing with the red cross will be used to shine our shoes.
The war turned my dad into a fervent pacifist. His respect was for the men he served alongside not militarism. He had no use for the monarchy or anything it stood for and left England shortly after the war ended. You don't even have any idea what "Motherfucking country" I call my home. It isn't England so PISS OFF
You are very welcome my friend. I meant every word. The history of our two countries is in many ways regrettable but nonetheless inseparable. We may need to stand shoulder to shoulder again because your neighbours are very unstable. We British may well have the opportunity to repay some of what we owe you.
Things don’t look good in Nepal at the moment, our mutual loyal friends may need some assistance in the very near future.
I wish that the bad feelings that exist between our two countries could be reconciled. I have nothing but respect for India and those soldier who fought to preserve world peace. Anyone who thought that the Japanese would give India freedom only need look at what they did in Korea.
As a former member of the British armed forces, I would have been happy to fight defending India from attack by her neighbours.
@FLUSEM666@FLUSEM666 There is no bad feeling from the part of Indians towards British. You do not see any hatred the kind Muslims and Catholic countries reserve for America. Indians do not hold grudges. In sports, if you win, Indians will support you. If you lose, you'll get booed. Having said that, Britain is solely responsible for exporting the three idiotic systems of Marxism, Socialism and Keynesianism. You need to embrace the free-market.
Maybe the WW2 India soldier gives too much respect to the British, and needs to know they did their duty, are all that should be expected of them, and deserve alot of respect.
INA did what was thought as the best possible answer to British occupation, Royal Indian Army did what was needed to keep the Japs away. If people just remember that the same Indian soldiers fought against the Nazi'a in East Africa and the Middle East. We should remember that the this same army was left behind by the British and they fought against Pakistan and China!!! It's always easy to judge the book by it's cover, reading the book takes time and effort...
These men did not die for nothing, they chose the better of two evils!!! Japs would have used us like guinea pigs to conduct their experiments just like Nazi'a did with Jews and the so called inferior race!!! We have always looked at this era in history from only one perspective, for a nationalistic perspective. In this case could have been disastrous.

Those poor veterans, I wish they got a pension, but because the Indians didn't kick the British out like say, the Americans, they feel they need to compensate by lionising those trators the INA.
The INA soliders were freedom fighters and they fought for INDIAN freedom, but for what did the INDIAN soliders under British army fought for? offcourse for British and not for "INDIAN INDEPENDENCE".. @boyzffuture Think of it this way, Allied victory in WWII paved way for India's independence in just 2 yrs time. A German-Jap-Italian victory would have made us slave of ppl who thought their race was superior. Just look to what happened in China. So, fighting for British was stroke of brilliance and definitely gave us the freedom.
@boyzffuture are you fucking kidding me. the INA were fighting against Indian independance. britain was going to leave after the war, had the INA and Japs won, India would be colonised by Japs, who acted like savage dogs during WW2, trust me the stuff they did, it made the British look like good people.
@bcthighs Dude, Get your facts right, First of all Japs were not strong enough to make a colony in the subcontinent as they themself facing US.
