@TheCodmw2rocks It was on my TV. Wow I can't believe this video is 3 years old and has over 30,000 views. At the time I posted it was the first video of the theme song.
Hey everyone, grab your beach gear and head on down to the beach! The Blob's coming and he's bringing far-out groovy music to dance to. Don't be afraid, he's a fun blob that just wants to dance !
heh....forgot about this opening with the happy little cartoon of expanding blobs and the doo wop style of music. Gonna have to learn this to annoy my fellow cubicle rats
Well, according to IMDb, it was performed by "The Five Blobs". Not a real band, just came together with that name for this song, which was a moderate success on its own.
it actually cant die, they freeze it and take it to antarctica to stay frozen until the sequel where a scientist finds it, breaks of a sample and later the sample thaws and turns into another blob
Well they grab fir extingishures from around a high school (I think) and they freeze it over. They have a cliff hanger showing one of the side charicters (DSon t rember the name) is holding a piece of the blob that chipped off in a jar.
That was the ending of the Blob in 1988. The minister was deluded that God would tell him when to commit murder.
In the original in 1958, they dropped it into the Arctic. Then it returned in 1972, when a bulldozer picked it up while installing the Alaska pipeline. That second one left much to be desired.
My dad bourght this movie earlier this year. I watched it and LAUGHED! The Theme Tune itself had me in stiches. It's like they had never had horror music in those days!
If you go to the "retro cocktail hour" website, they have a streaming audio in their archive with this song in it. It's much higher quality and much longer.
Originally there was to be a sinister theme to play during the opening credits, but Paramount wanted them to make a song to attract teenagers, so they made this. As a result, this is different from the entire film.
not meaning to criticize for i truly appreciate that you uploaded one of the most unique intro's in sci-fi film history, but is there a possibility of getting a better quality video up? i would do so but the vhs I have of the original Blob isn't very good at all. Thanks!
the film definitely peaks at this point. except perhaps that part where the nurse falls over the lamp after throwing the acid - that bit makes me roar with laughter in a most unladylike manner
the song is scary to me even though it sounds so "lighthearted"

If this movie had come out in 68 instead of 58 ,people would have been trying to trip out on the visual effects,in the opening theme of the movie.

This classic theme song was written--and
performed by--the then-unknown composer,
BURT BACHARACH!
He used multi-tracking recording equipment
to make himself into a non-existant group,
The Five Blobs! LOL!!
RonaldVaughan 3 years ago
It worked.
royalfuzziness 3 years ago
Correction: Somebody told me,that the actual
performer of this song was a Mr. Bernie Nee
[sic]. But Burt Bacharach DID write the
song...

In a jar? Don't think so.
When the CO2 fire extinguishers freeze THE
BLOB,they ship it off to the Antarctic...where
it'll never thaw out. There was no "cliffhanger" as I remember.
It just said "The End" (?)
RonaldVaughan 3 years ago
It may have been after credits... But I have the vido and it shows the dude holdin a bit of the blob in a jar.
