Look, Tony is on record saying that unless it is reduced to writing it need not be true. Its a slight adjustment to the Howard distinction between core and peripheral promises. This is not simple inadvertance, but flows from a hardwired sense of entitlement and a belief that the electorate suffers from amnesia and wont retain a memory of yesterday's promised and today mendacity. It was indeed a close call that he wasn't elected.
