@MrJacMac1986 I do remember That's Incredible and Real People, but for some reason I don't recall ever watching them. But yes-there are some good comedies on now. (I got tired of Two And A Half Men a couple years ago, but there are quite a few good comedies on now that I enjoy watching.) It seems like one decade has some really good shows, then the next 10 years aren't so good. (Just my personal opinion.)
Actually I thought the girl in the 3rd clip (disco dancing girl) was Fran Drescher who had a bit part in Saturday Night Fever playing an extra in a disco. But I don't know why that tiny clip would make it into this promo since she was unknown back then, and since SNF was a movie in theaters, not on CBS.
Mary Tyler Moore is in the very first shot of the clip. The disco-dancing-girl doesn't look anything like MTM to me. She's the third scene in the clip at around 9-seconds.
@apotheounSTK Damn,she was hot then!Andy Gibb was involved with Victoria Principal during her Dallas heyday and his on the top of the pop charts as well.She said his drug abuse spiraled out of control and was just too much for her to keep the relationship going with him.
He's starring in one of his many failed post MASH sitcoms....this one "In The Beginning..." featuring him as an old fashioned priest teamed up with a 'hip with-it' nun.
Yep, Danny Dark succeeded Casey Kasem as "NBC's promo voice" in 1982...the CBS "eye" logo, 'barber', did use a "camera shutter" effect in their filmed I.D.'s during the 1950's and '60s...
I wish I was born earlier and would've been able to enjoy these shows. TV looked great back then, when the 90's/2000's came, it all went to Hell in a hand-basket. :/
The 1990's weren't that bad compared to the 70's, if you're old enough to remember the cheesy comedies of the 80's-Family Ties, Golden Girls, etc. But the 70's was definitely a good decade for comedies. Depending on when it was in the 70's and which network-All In The Family, Jeffersons, One Day At A Time, Maude, Happy Days, Laverne/Shirley, Good Times, Sanford and Son, M*A*S*H, etc. Pretty much any night of the week there was something good on TV. I miss those days.
I agree with you on the comedies, although I think Seinfeld is the greatest of all time. I think dramas in the 1990s and 2000s are leaps and bounds better than anything in the 70's. The Soprano's, The Wire, Six Feet Under, Deadwood....I could go on and on. When it comes to drama, we're in the Golden Age.
@cardsandramsfan Now theres nothing but reality crap.There are still some good sitcoms like two and a half men, big bang theory,the middle and shit my dad says.Even reality shows were better in the 1970's.Do you remember Thats Incredible and Real People?
@barber747 I always thought of 1980-1982 as more like 1970's years.To me the 1980's culturally didnt really begin until 1983.Just like 1970-1973 were more like 1960's years culturally.Seems like decades dont really get their identity for 2 to 4 years after they start.
Know what's funny JacMac? Another user by the name of 0814ma told me that exact same thing. He stated, "The distinctive "look" of a decade takes a while to emerge". What also supports that point is the fact I recently bought an issue of Jet from May of 1980 and it feels so '70s!
@cardsandramsfan Sitcoms and variety shows had ruled the roost in the 70's,that's for sure.I can't be bothered to even turn the TV on anymore because it's oversaturated with reality shows and umpteen CSI ripoffs.
Gezz...I just saw FLYING HIGH and AMERICAN GIRLS in this clip. Two crappy Charles Angles-rip-off's that I watched religously. What the hell did I know?!
Groovy.

Actually I believe that just standard animation. CGI was too far into its early stages to be of any use in television at this time.

"THE PAPER CHASE" (a later success on cable}
