The Americans main strategy, "Search and Destroy", which was employed in Vietnam meant that Americans burned villages, killed civilians, devastated crops, and generally treated the Vietnamese like shit. Many of them I forgive for they were young men, lured by patriotism and talk of spreading liberty and stopping communism. It's the policy makers that cannot be forgiven....and of course, it's happening again!

I guess, only young men can be really brutal, because they don't have kids and have a different position in life, than older ones.

And of course, the war itself, no matter how old one is, will make anyone somehow a monster. I think, if You stay human, You get crazy.

Soldiers are victims themselves. As You said: the politicians are the ones, who send people to war- and we idiots vote for them.................

Look past the Hollywood spit shine and you will see that this is very realistic, not American propaganda you idiots.

The North would kill anyone who disagreed with their politics its a simple as that.

That is one reason why we were there. The main reason is to stop the spread of a Communism which is now virtually dead in the world.

Even China have a Mixed economy which doesnt really make them "Communists".

So you are in favour of a policy that 'would kill anyone who disagreed', in Vietnam's case atleast 2 million civilians and maybe 1 to 2 million soldiers? Communism failed pretty much by itself. But the US was (and still is) too paranoid to let others choose for themselves. Your argument would mean you disagree with America's War of independence as George Washington was prepared to 'kill anyone who disagreed'.

@padookieking Go and read the history first before commenting.The North Vietnamese didnt go massacring the innocent civillian blindly. They just executed spies and collaborators but not the whole village.The americans were the real culprits.Other than aerial bombing that killed countless innocent civilians.The GIs massacred the whole villages they suspect harbor the vietcongs.My Lai massacre was a good example

@ali4330 A think you should read more about communism. I grow up in communist country, they used always the same methods, no matter where and when, first propagnada, then bullet in back of your head. They tried it even on members of my familly. My Lai is rather exception, read about collectisation in North Vietnam in late 50 (400 - 500 000 victims executed, died in gulags or in exile from starvation). Sorry for my bad english

Ho Chi Minh was not a communist and the Vietnamese constitution was inspired by (and is almost an exact copy of) the United States constitution. That is why Vietnam is not a communist country.

The US has abandoned the principles of the founding fathers. The sergeant knew what it was about. They were selling an idea and if someone didn't buy it then they got a bullet instead.
