  • wow!

  • Us Baltimore old timers remember another train derailment pretty near this same location back in the 1960s. One derailed Western Maryland car (either hopper or gon) was left in place and just covered over on the hillside. Hurricane Agnes may have uncovered it and possibly it was removed when the OML was rebuilt through this area. Solid daytime WM coal hopper trains along this line were commonplace back then.

  • @shortliner68 That car is still there, although rusty and covered in brush

  • I "work" at the B&O Museum in Ellicott City; wasn`t there Friday but am told the train made a god-awful racket as it passed the museum a mile or two west of the derailment site. It seems one of the trucks had derailed some distance west of the museum, judging by the damage to the ties and spikes. The truck probably pulled the following cars off the rails when it reached the switch at (Avalon?).

  • csx needs to stop acting like Penn Cenral

  • @CR6479 what does that mean?

  • @coolcatevan9 csx is running like penncenteral it was the worst railroad. it derailed way too many time. didn't follow the rules. didn't care for their workers safety etc.

  • @CR6479 I think Your logic Isnt right, although Penn. central DID have problems, CSX is Not like Penn.

  • @coolcatevan9 He's partly right. CSX has been the least safe of the 4 major class 1 railroads in the last 10+ years. They are improving, but they still have safety issues.

  • WOW! We were there a just a few hours before this occered!

  • O dear, I thought this only happened on model railways

  • According to the sun, cars were carrying Sodium Hydroxide (the chemical base in DRAIN CLEANERS) and sodium chlorate (a toxic HERBICIDE when pure) and a "powdery, white substance." If they reported the first two but not the powder, i wonder what the hell kind of chemical that could be poured all over the hill. And if those sodium hydroxide/chlorate cars were damaged, i don't even want to imagine the clean-up..

  • Deferred maintenance always bights you in the butt.

  • Excellent video *****. Was that Hulcher Services that was doing the cleanup?

  • Thanks. Yes it was. Part 2 is coming soon and will show Hulcher.

  • CSX really seems to have problems, they derailed a train in Philly a few weeks ago too.

  • @NSHammerhead yeah, and when they were uprighting a hopper car they failed and the thing slammed into the ground loosing a set of trucks.

  • They really need to upgrade there tracks and stuff.
