Her scatting sounds so lazy and random apose to Ella which was clear as a bell and always took you up down, low, high and all around. Sarah was very talented and Ella well I need not say anything because she's the Lady of Song. Variety the spice of life!
@aubrey1015 lazy and random scatting... hmmmmm... well, not sure why you'd say that.. Sarah Vaughn wasn't know for her scat singing.. she was known for her ability to be able to jump octives and beyond... Ella was DEF known for her scat singing, but, had problems coming back to pitch after singing scat... it's like comparing Beverly Sills to Joan Sutherland.. same genre, VERY different sounds and styles....
DEAR OLE SARAH WAS STEVIE RAY'S OLDER SISTER. SHE TAUGHT STEVIE HOW TO PLAY THE VIOLA WHEN HE WAS THREE MONTHS OLD. THEN HE BOUGHT A COCK-SUCKING GUITAR AND YOU SEE HOW HE SUXED AFTER THAT. ANYWAY, SARAH TRIED TO HELP STEVIE, BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH A DAMN CRACKER - OH, SHE WAS IN JAIL ONCE, FOR WHOOPING JIMMI'S ASS - GOOD FOR HER!
The Voice! To me that will always be the label for Sassy. Great range and feel for a lyric and melody and in her comfort zone with the great musicians surrounding her. I don't like to rate singers as to the best or second, third best, etecetera. Each has their own gift and for me Sassy was the complete package.
@letmesing6868 Yup, this version is in GMaj. The original version was Bb, and it's mostly done in C (appears in the Real Book that way). The bassist is Richard Davis--amazing performance.
It would be great if the good folks who posted these historical gems would notate the album the track is from and the names of the musicians so that we can pass on to the young folks interested in this art form.
I recently bought her greatest hits on CD. If you don't believe in God you should listen to her singing. She was given a gift from above and we are lucky she shared it with us.
wasnt expecting the scatting! she blown me completely away! love it!

@epasurr - It's Roy Haynes on Drums, and Richard Davis on Bass, although Joe Benjamin does a few tracks on the album.

Stupendous scat. One of her best tracks, in my opinion.

The best female singer. Period. Voice, style, and swings it. Her "Misty" is as close to perfect as it gets. This one is merely amazing.
