HEY MAN GREAT VID! :) AND I WANTED TO ASK WHEN I CHOP UP MY SAMPLES AND PUT THEM IN THE EXS SAMPLER WHEN I PRESS THE KEYS THEY DONT PLAY PLZ HELP ME !!! I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT :)
@wisdimproductoins not sure why your samples are not playing. It could be that the track is on mute. hopefully you may have found the solution by now. if you still need help send me a message. I try and respond promptly. I sometimes have issues with this account.
I am a beginner to Logic Pro I am very interested in this software because I see that it is powerful and ver user friendly. But the problem I am having is chopping up my samples.I just finished watching your video which was helpful.I want everybody to know that the US preset setting does allow you to use forward slash to chop samples. My problem now is I can drag the music into my logic pro but I can't hear it at all.I have never been able to hear nothing that I drag into logic.PLEASE HELP!
@FrankLaws100 ok man..i had this same problem..after u chop ip ur pieces and before u drag them into the exs sampler..i want you to do one thing..right click the samples u want to and a box should pop up with diffirent options..go to convert to new audiofile..after you name it and save it..drag it over..and it should work
Help!!! ..Can any one out there, please explain how to remove parts of a loop and replace them with , say, a sample from another track. I'm using Logic 8 and I've imported a song that I like, but it has certain small parts I don't like. I've managed to get the loops affected onto the Esx 24 and I'm now stuck as to how to remove then replace parts of that loop.
I know its probably a very basic problem but Its a nightmare to me.
@PattyWhomperOFFICIAL thanks for the info. I addressed the option click option in my Logic made easy: sampling in logic 9 video. I also have some other useful sampling tuts.
THANK YOU!!!!! NUFF RESPECT G IVE BEEN CUTTIN AND PLACING THEM IN ORDER FOR THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF YOU HAVE JUST MADE MY LIFE SO MUCH SIMPLER!!! props
when i load my samples in the exs24 they don't come aligned like yours the come with long bars stretched across the keys? wonder if i need to do something to adjust it?
when i throw my samples in the editor that window doesnt come up that asks for contiguous zones. instead my sample just goes into the editor and spreads through out the key board, the same sample in different pitches.that one sample takes over the whole board!!!
@kingjams757 It sounds like a bug, Check for the latest software update. If one isn't available, you can resize the samples by clicking and holding each end of the sample zone then dragging it to the key you want the sample to play on. there was a bug similar to that one in logic 9, that was corrected with a software update. I have a video showing the bug and another one showing the solution. Please subscribe and check out my other videos. they may be of great help in logic.
Unfortunately, without being a "Logic Expert" Logic isn't good 4 slicing samples precisely. Anytime i want to make slices from an external sample ie: a song, I slice mine in Recycle, then import them into Logic's editor, works great because Recycle allows you to set your own start and end points very simple.
@BKLYNBOY7 you are able to define start and end points with logic. Go to winksound, I have a few video tuts there that shows how to define start and end points. They are under feature producer area. Recycle maybe easier for some but not everyone has the money to fork out for extra programs. Logic can be easy to, but as with all programs, they take a minute to learn. Winksound offers various tuts on various programs (DAWs). Hope this helps
try bouncing the file you want to sample from. 1. Highlight the song your sampling. 2. Go to where it says bounce (in the upper right corner next to colors). 3. Rename the song you are sampling from. make it a short name so the error message won't pop up 4. Bounce it to your audio bin in a format of wave or aiff. 5. Go to your bin which is in the media folder. 6. get the file you just bounced and drag it into the arrangement area and now you should be in business. It's easy. try it.
you have just ended a lot of days of searching how to do this! thank you so much! i have been trying to make a kanye west type beat by doing this for so long and it works perfectly now.
unfortunately the copy of logic i copped from a friend, isnt a full copy, he probably just got it off the internet, so i dont have the ability to use the "\" feature, i'd like to add it to my key commands, but i dont know which function it is, does anybody?

@psybeatstv go to 4:15 to 4:45 on the video. I explain how to set up sounds there. 1. Assign your samples to a group. 2. Select the group that your samples are assigned to. 3.Click on the group header that is next to zone header. 4. Go to where it says voices on the header and choose poly or polyphonic. 5. assign the the poly to 1 by clicking the number and dragging with the mouse or typing in 1. now your done. go back to zones or save. your samples should play one at a time.
@psybeatstv also on the surface of the EXS 24. On the left hand side you will see a place that says legato, mono, and poly. click on mono and it should only allow one sound at a time to play out of the EXS24 sampler.
Can anybody reading this comment help tell me how to fix the following problems. I don't know how or when, but when i have samples in the EXS24 sampler and i try to edit by "opening in sample editor" the edits I make no longer have effect on the EXS24 sampler itself so when I play nothing changes. I don't know maybe I somehow messed with a setting but I can't seem to resolve it and it has been affecting my prodcuing
I've had this problem myself. I think it is a bug in logic 9. If you have an earlier version of logic, try chopping it in there. If you don't try to rechop the file.
Alright thank you that probably is it. I just found a workaround yesterday though. I just find my starting point then, copy the sample start number (right-hand corner of the sample editor) do view sample in the EXS and manually type in the number for sample start.
hi exs24 doesn't come up in my I/O just input and output options! how do i get to the editor so i can transfer my samples to the piano roll?? any help appreciated :]
I might be a bug. try opening and closing your logic program. also check for updates with the software. The EXS24 is in the same are as all the other instruments and plug ins.
you change the speed at which the sample instrument plays by adjusting the tune on the surface of the EXS24. But be beware that will also adjust the pitch of the sample.
Also make sure that in the pitch is unclicked or deselected in the playback area of your EXS24 sampler instrument editor. The pitch of each sample corresponds to the key of the piano roll. As you go up the keys on the piano, so does the pitch of each sample. Going up or down in pitch will also increase or decrease the tempo of the sample depending on where the sample is on the piano roll. Hope this helps
i have the same problem sometimes, what i do to compensate with this is i bounce each sample out and then bring it back in with a different name for each and then its fine. if anyone knows of a quicker way then let me know
great video, but I'm having some trouble for some reason. when I have everything chopped up and I drag all the parts into the EXS 24, it says "the file name is too long," and when I click on the keys there is no audio. do you know what the problem could be?
If it is logic 9. It could be a bug because I have notice problems in the EXS24 in logic 9. try and shorten the actual descriptive name in your file name. something that you can remember to access your files. you have to get out of editor mode for your sounds to actually be triggered by your midi device. you can try clicking the keys in the editor screen with your mouse to listen to the sound of each key in editor mode. also make sure you don't have mute or solo enabled in another track.
@EBE725 abrieviate the file name in FINDER. Then reimport the audio and chop it. Abbriviate the file name as much as possible. It will work. I'm not sure what the file name limits are but this method work importing mp3s

Im on Logic Express 9 w/ an iMac. For some reason this doesn't work when I try it! Im bringing in audio, hitting the " \ " key (above return, under delete keys) and all I get is the Apple error sound (blomp, blomp). Whats am I NOT doing right?
its easier in logic 9. if you want to split regions make sure you have the audio track highlighted. Then hit where you want your chops to go. You can click the right arrow key on your mouse to bring up the convert option too and it will allow you to bring up a sapler instrument instantly. Also ck out my other videos on adjusting your sample chops.
Yes you can make it longer and shorter. Are you on logic 8 or 9? either way the best teacher on youtube for learning logic is SFlogic Ninja. he has extensive video on logic. It sounds like you want to repeat a region of time or measure. go to his tip #4 region repeat video. also learninglogicpro and winksound has excellent info for logic.
watch the video it is over the (return/enter) button. basically the slash button just splits regions. look in you manual or in logic for split region.
I also like how you selected the chopped up audio at 3.43, without moving the cursor, I've never tried that before, in fact how did you do it? I'm trying right now.
great vid, but would you happen to know how to get the sample to stop playing when another pad is pressed instead of it just playing all the way through or only when you have it pressed down
make sure the audio you are trying to chop up is selected or else it wont chop it. Besides that it should work because "/" is a chop preset inside of Logic.
Another tip if you want all chops to be the same length is too use the scissors tool and hold "option" when you chop, once you release your entire file will be perfect lengths!
Oh no problem. Im just gettin used to sampling so I been reading/watching every piece of info on it i can. Jus Blaze was right when he said our generation lives in the perfect time for young producers.
Make sure you have your the audio file you are chopping selected. Also make sure the file you are chopping is actually audio as opposed to a midi track or instrument track. also make sure you don't have your caps lock keyboard selected or it will not work.
The Akai Convert is used to convert Akai Sample CDs. They will not show up as a disc in finder, but if you load them up in Logic they will show all banks and then you can load them and they will auto make EXS instruments into your EXS Menu. They have nothing to do with the Akai MPD keyboards or controllers.
The screen doesn't have to be blue. You can change the screen colors as an option. I changed it by choice. You can also sample personal music. I just choose to sample apple loops as an example. Just locate the audio you want to sample and drag into the arrange window.
I just got my logic 8 express software.. Can you do this with your own samples? Does everything have to be highlighted blue before I start this like you have in the video?

Jeffro303rd 2 years ago
you change the speed at which the sample instrument plays by adjusting the tune on the surface of the EXS24. But be beware that will also adjust the pitch of the sample.
dyc1000 2 years ago
How do i keep the speed of my original sample but also play that same sample in different pitches on the fly????
finalkazuya 2 years ago
I have made a video on how to change the pitch of a sample without effecting the tempo with the EXS24 sampler in logic.

6. De-select Learn by key label and close the key command menu.
After these simple steps, you should be good to start chopping!

Helpful but a got a question if I want to
Upload a song and I want to edit. The
Song (make it shorter or larger) is it
Posible with logic pro I just got it and
I've been having some problems trying
To use it properly . Thanks
dabeatmix 2 years ago
Yes you can make it longer and shorter. Are you on logic 8 or 9? either way the best teacher on youtube for learning logic is SFlogic Ninja. he has extensive video on logic. It sounds like you want to repeat a region of time or measure. go to his tip #4 region repeat video. also learninglogicpro and winksound has excellent info for logic.
dyc1000 2 years ago
watch the video it is over the (return/enter) button. basically the slash button just splits regions. look in you manual or in logic for split region.
dyc1000 2 years ago
Really good vid, thanks for that.
I also like how you selected the chopped up audio at 3.43, without moving the cursor, I've never tried that before, in fact how did you do it? I'm trying right now.
zunaic 2 years ago
It's just like highlighting everything else. Shift and the arrow key to highlight each region.

thanks you so much couldnt figure this out

great vid, but would you happen to know how to get the sample to stop playing when another pad is pressed instead of it just playing all the way through or only when you have it pressed down
ktkeely 2 years ago
Un click the one shot button. The sample will only play when the key is pressed down.
dyc1000 2 years ago
yea but i mean is there something else that allows it to play through like one shot. but stop playing when another pad is pressed?
ktkeely 2 years ago
Start vid at 4:26 I talk about polyphony (poly), which allows one sample to play at a time.
Instructions:
1st highlight the group name your samples are assigned to
2nd click on where it says (groups) in your sampler editor. this will allow you to edit that sample group
3rd Go where it says voices and click on the heading under (voices) that says (poly) assign the poly to 1.
this will allow you the samples to play one at a time until the next sample is triggered.
dyc1000 2 years ago
if there is a poly / mono section on the sampler, use mono

make sure the audio you are trying to chop up is selected or else it wont chop it. Besides that it should work because "/" is a chop preset inside of Logic.
Another tip if you want all chops to be the same length is too use the scissors tool and hold "option" when you chop, once you release your entire file will be perfect lengths!
Who needs an Mpc???
PadroPadro22 2 years ago
Thanks for the tip. I will put that in my more information.
dyc1000 2 years ago
Oh no problem. Im just gettin used to sampling so I been reading/watching every piece of info on it i can. Jus Blaze was right when he said our generation lives in the perfect time for young producers.
PadroPadro22 2 years ago
Make sure you have your the audio file you are chopping selected. Also make sure the file you are chopping is actually audio as opposed to a midi track or instrument track. also make sure you don't have your caps lock keyboard selected or it will not work.

OMG THANKS MAN! This will speed up my work quite a lot!!

Just locate the audio you want to sample and drag into the arrange window.
dyc1000 2 years ago
I just got my logic 8 express software.. Can you do this with your own samples? Does everything have to be highlighted blue before I start this like you have in the video?
