  • Do you have to 30-30-30 it?

  • @jelnunez I didn't, and all was well.

  • @gamedexterity Ah, I didn't also xD I took the chance

  • is there a way to change it back

  • @MrGamer799 Yea, put the old firmware back, pretty simple. But I love tomato firmware. Just being able to extend the power of the router, + bridge mode is more than enough incentive to mod it.

  • Thank you! Super helpful.

  • can you use the stock firmware to upgrade it to tomato?

  • @bisono64 Only for certain models.

  • wrt54gl upgrade are failed what did i do wrong?

  • @1234airows Try it again. If not supported still, then use dd-wrt.

  • @gamedexterity i got v6 so just use dd-wrt

  • Good job ! Thanks !

  • how can i use tomato to set my linksys wrt310n router as a repeater? is this the same as wireless client bridge?

  • @gorix23 No, just turn on the repeater mode actually.

  • Thanks. I was googling this and I mostly wanted to increase the power in the antennas. Could you follow up on this common upgrade?

Is there a chance of overheating the router?

    Thanks.

  • @MogTrader If you go to advanced, then wireless, there is a mode there for transmitting power. I have mine set to 100, default is 42, and nothing bad has happened yet and its been over a year. - Versatile

  • how can i change my nat type to open with this system?

  • @martijnhaagen1 You port forward for whatever game you're playing -Monoxide

  • @gamedexterity what do i have to do then? Basic, DMZ or Triggered?

  • @martijnhaagen1 Basic is what you want. - Versatile

  • When I try to upgrade, it says "Upgrade are failed."

  • @KnightKu Got compatible router?

  • @gamedexterity Thanks for your reply, but I figured it out. I was on FF, but when I switched to IE it worked! Dunno why, but glad that it worked. :)

  • @KnightKu Tomato is weird like that. Now go forth and become the tomato king!

  • hey can i upgrade my firmware to gargoyle using tomato?

  • @heyitshorse No sorry. Check out dd-wrt instead.

  • does this have data usage limiting?

  • Hi!

My router (tp-link 1043nd) has an USB port. Is it possible with Tomato, to turn it into a torrent-server (of course, with a pendrive or something, which is plugged in the USB)? And if yes, I should manually expand tomato with this, or is it a built-in feature?

thanks for the vid, very useful!

  • @dddenes No, and I am not sure DD-WRT can do this feature. Tomato is not supported on this router though, but look into dd-wrt. -Versatile

  • @gamedexterity Thank you! Then I look after dd-wrt...

  • Very nice tutorial. I just have one question, did you perform these steps on the computer that was connected to the wireless network or did you do this with a computer that was connected by ethernet cable?

  • @MagneetoBandeeto Purely wireless. - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity thanks, i think I'll give this a try then.

  • Do you know how to use QoS to increase internet speed and stop lag?

  • @KintahKuntay Sorry, I never tried that feature before. Lag is there because either the host has very poor upload speed, or your internet is not fast enough, or everyone is lagging the host.

  • I want to kno if tomato is better than dd-wrt

  • @kad1o1 Not sure, both are equally good. Right now I have my main router running tomato, and I got my bridge router running dd-wrt. I like them both! - Versatile

  • Is it possible to redirect users to a custom web page when they connect to a router using the firmware ?

  • @GeeBashBliss That I don't know how that is done. Ask the developer.

  • what do you think the best router config is.?

  • @LMSwarrior12 Best config is one using custom firmware. - Versatile

  • Cool tut, thanks bud..

  • Question: I have a Linksys WRT54G v6 and I was wondering if this firmware is compatible with my router? I currently have a DD-WRT firmware installed and can I still have more than 1 Wireless Access Point? I currently have 4 on my modified router.

  • @WinVistaUser2 : V6 is not supported for tomato. You are stuck with dd-wrt. Yes, you can have more than 1 wireless access point. Why not make a bridge?

  • does the tomato firmware have the option to boost your antenna strength ? If not would, would the DD-WRT firmware be a better option for me since i am trying to achieve better wireless signal, my wired one is working just fine. Thanks!

  • @stanstankov2 Tomato and dd-wrt allows youto increase signal strength, yes. - Versatile

  • i did the same exact thing you did, but it bricked my router! what did i do wrong?

  • @nicoman9 What is your router model number?

  • @gtasanandreas162 Answer is no, your router cannot do this. - Versatile

  • @gtasanandreas162 Versatile is currently on vacation up until Dec. 30th. He'll be answering questions and making new videos next year. Please hold until he is available for contact.

  • I have a Rosewill RNX-N4PS router, do you know of any firmware versions compatible with it?

  • @Jonedcc There is no firmware version custom that you can get for your router. Sorry. - Versatile

  • is there one for wrtu54g-tm? this router is constantly disconnecting, and i've already update it to the latest firmware but it still disconnects -.-

  • @holycow343 I just checked. No tomato, and no dd-wrt. You are out of luck. - Versatile

  • No More Heroes background?

  • @skyborg007 Yes.

  • any one done the wireless client bridge because im having a problem with the security settings. Its a wrt54gs v2 client running Tomato and a netgear wgr614v7 host running stock firmware . they connect fine when security is disabled. but the two have some conflicting security settings of some sort.

  • @punkofdeath : I am doing the bridge right now with my tomato router. Use the netgear as the main router. Have the tomato router connect to the netgear router as a client. Make sure the security protocol and password is entered into tomato correctly.

It sounds like you got the bridge working when security is off, but when security is on, its a no go? Try WEP first to make sure it works, then move onto WPA or WPA2. - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity Only thing is the wep is too easy to crack and I bet it would work but then I have to reconfigure 5 other nodes that aren't mine. I just want the wpa2 to work right. If my nic card connects why not the tomato router. I need an Internet connection on a boot cd to remove a possible root kit on my win7 install but it doesn't recognise my wireless nic. So I need a client bridge. plus it has no lag with the bridge. so id like to keep it.

  • @punkofdeath Agreed, so if you put on WPA2 the bridge fails to work? - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity yep i dont get why and now i tried wep and it dosnt work with that ether. to me i seems like Im miss informed on where to set the security cause it seems like the settings are only setting the client routers security. Not validation of access to the main host. Its that or the firmware got corrupted some how Ima try flashing it again maybe they have had an update since I first did it.

  • @punkofdeath : It doesn't make sense. I'll put this onto my todo list to make a follow up video and I'll show how I setup my bridge when I am using tomato. - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity Good lookin out. thanx man! Ima probably feel dumb cause it will most likely be right in front off face and I'm just missing it some how. lol tell me when you get around to it. peace : )]

  • I have never used Tomato, but I can tell you this, I would if I could. Since I know a LOT about DD-WRT, it would be nice to change. I have used my 2nd linksys router as a client bridge when my internet was out, and I picked up the signal from my android phone and put it over the 4 ethernet ports and still played xbox live in an internet outage. I don't mess with VPN or other (to me) really complicated stuff, BUT I use a LOT of the features of DD-WRT and I love it. I WON'T accept stock firmware!

  • I have a WRT54GS v7 (no tomato) and a WRT54GS2 (no tomato) but BOTH of them are running DD-WRT. I have to tell you, I LOVE custom firmware! I have my xbox set to high priority (in DMZ mode) and everything else just gets leftover bandwidth! Plus I can view everyone connected to the network in "Status" and then "Lan", copying there mac address and either denying them internet period, or blocking certain (or ALL) p2p services LIKE BITTORRENT. I wish I had this when I lived with my parents!

  • how can I roll back to stock firmware? it is possible? i have linksys wrt54gl

  • @andreionefm : Just upload the linksys original firmware. Why would you want to? Tomato or dd-wrt is 1000 times better. - Versatile

  • can you give a direct link cause when i download it its a .7z not .zip

  • @PudzBug : So what? Use 7-zip to unzip. - Versatile

  • could you explain how to set tomato as a bridge

  • @theawsomekicker : Yes, its simple. Put a request in the youtube request form please so I can track it. -Versatile

  • hey i uploaded the firmware file to my linksys page and now all i get when i go to the default ip address is teh linksys page again but with no links so i cant downgrade. What should I do?

  • @chasna : Tomato or dd-wrt? What is your router model number? -Versatile

  • @gamedexterity

i used tomato and my router model wrt54g

  • @chasna : That is a compatible model. Try resetting the router. Turn off the router. Push the reset button in. Plug in power while the reset button is still pushed down. Hold it there for about 30 seconds. Then try to login. - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity

hey i tried that but still nothing happened

    anything else i can do?

  • @chasna : Are you saying that you do not have tomato firmware installed, or you have a linksys router page with words missing? - Versatile

  • @gamedexterity

i have both issues tomato wont work and the page doesn't show

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo my router isn't compatible!! feeling sad... boring menus for me :(

  • @DrJams : Take a look at dd-wrt. -Versatile

  • is there anything that works with new versions of linksys wrt54gs

  • @TornadoBarrage : Try dd-wrt. -Versatile

  • @gamedexterity tried searching for it cant find it.

  • @TornadoBarrage : I found it. Go to dd-wrt (dot) com website. Go to router database. Type in wrt54gs and you find a lot of data! -Versatile

  • @gamedexterity thx man im about to flash it now.

  • Do you know if this works on Linksys WRT320N? I can't seem to find the compatibility page. :/

  • @Marialonzo Linksys WRT54G v1-v4, WRT54GS v1-v4, WRT54GL v1.x, WRTSL54GS (no USB support)

    Buffalo WHR-G54S, WHR-HP-G54, WZR-G54, WBR2-G54

Asus WL500G Premium (no USB support)

Untested but apparently works without changes: SparkLAN WX-6615GT

Note: Most WRT54G and WRT54GS (not WRT54GL) sold in stores right now are the v5.0+ variety and will not work with Tomato.

    Answer is NO. -Versatile

  • thanks a lot for posting this!

  • can wag200g used as a repeater???

  • If its not compatible on tomato website, answer is no. - Versatile

  • What is the highest transmitting power setting that is recommended when using Tomato 1.27 on a Linksys wrt54G?

  • I have to double check the specs. Do not put it at max, put it about 60% increase. - Versatile

  • 70 mw... there problem is power/heat dissipation... my old Linksys ran at 28mW... 70 is very good, you can (with Tomato) push it up over 700mw... and fry your router in just a few hours. I don't know the answer, but I wouldn't run anything over 100mw on my router.

  • Just installed tomato 1.27 on wrt54g. How do I increase transmission power?

  • Travis!!!!!! can you turn the router into an antenna?(meaning, can you make it connect to other connections instead)

  • It's called a network bridge, and the answer is yes.- Versatile

  • Yes very interesting :-D

  • interesting :)
