  • This song, like most of ROYAL SCAM and the whole SD catalogue, is damn hard to beat!

  • My favorite song off of my favorite Dan album!!!!

  • This one is my favourite off this album - even edging out "Kid Charlemagne" and "Sign in Stranger". It's just fab ... music, lyrics the whole thing. Top notch recording. Thanks.

  • I'm 25 now, but I remember being a kid and listening to Steely Dan with my dad in the car(maybe 7 or 8). It's weird how it took me til my sophmore year of high sschool to get into them. They are like a fine wine, I just keep appreciating them more and more. Amazing live band as well. I saw them play Aja live last year and it was mind blowing. Maybe cuz I ate shrooms before lol.

  • @andyman311 Keep listening, young 'grasshopper'...

  • I LVOE the album version.

I want to replace the trumpet player -- with ME.

It takes chops to play the horn part to this tune. Sometimes Leonhart is hit-and-miss on his playing. Hulk Smash. ARRRggghhh.

  • When I heard this song, and the entire Royal Scam album, I went into mild depression because I was unsure if I would ever hear a better album in my life -- no joke. It is that good.

  • @DavidSlapsHisBass don't know which album i love more, Royal scam or Aja, but, hell, you can't lose with either one!!!!

  • i absolutely ADORE this tune. Along with "Don't Take Me Alive", an absolute favorite from the Royal Scam lp.

  • Awesome song from my favorite Steely Dan album Royal Scam. This song has such a killer groove to it. Fantastic 4 stars.

  • the busy world was not for me......CLASSIC!

  • I was at this show, too! Thanks for posting. :)

  • lush and beautiful .. so miuch soul and talent evident here ..

The Dan must tour Canada someday please... !

  • NOOO!!!! They messed up at :28 ... my idol has been ruined.

  • Who's the solo saxophonist?

  • Walt Weiskopf...

  • I was at this show, and so glad they played Caves. If I remember correctly, it was the 2nd or 3rd song of the night.

  • Perhaps my favorite song, and every version SD does of it glitters. Thanks!

  • cerebral, erudite, maybe the best fucking record, ever! next to marquee moon by television.steely dan were and are without peer.love it.

  • I just picked up The Royal Scam on vinyl, used and not so abused. Man, if that LP could talk, where it's been and what it's seen and heard, who knows??

  • The Scam is probably my favorite SD album.

  • Great sax solo. One of the Dan's all-time masterpieces.

  • RIP Cornelius...All Hail the Dan

  • For anyone who did not get to see a 2003 SD concert: this song sounds amazing in concert. Sound board reproductions do not come close to the real thing.

  • That tenor solo is legendary.. I can't remember his name...

  • Just saw this Legendary group in Dallas for the second time. I sure would have liked to hear this one in concert along with some of their more melodic tunes. Concert was good. A lot of my favorites were missed both times. Glad I can see Black Cow, Deacon Blues, Caves and Kid Charlemagne on youtube anyhow.

  • I can't believe Royal Scam-haters call this song filler!

  • Well no matter.. lets just listen

  • Wha?? This is the best song they ever did!

I know how hard it is to pick a favorite from a great band, but this song is absolutely my favorite. The way the vocals just burst out, from the beginning, with such directness, all primary syllables... such a great melody... the saxes... magnificent!

  • I have to go with Sign In Stranger as my all time favorite. But this is up there on the list too.

  • This is perhaps their most underrated song ever.

  • I would agree--but then, we knew that :D

  • thank you for posting this I have seen the Dan 3 times but never seen them do this tune Live , Helluva show .

  • I just love it. This song is so catchy, it's been going round and round my head for a while. Where did you get all these live videos?

  • Thanks, I get every Steely Dan song stuck in my head, like that!

  • one of their best but there are so many!Unlike many songs from the 70's this still means as much today as it did then and they still write them today.
