This one is my favourite off this album - even edging out "Kid Charlemagne" and "Sign in Stranger". It's just fab ... music, lyrics the whole thing. Top notch recording. Thanks.
I'm 25 now, but I remember being a kid and listening to Steely Dan with my dad in the car(maybe 7 or 8). It's weird how it took me til my sophmore year of high sschool to get into them. They are like a fine wine, I just keep appreciating them more and more. Amazing live band as well. I saw them play Aja live last year and it was mind blowing. Maybe cuz I ate shrooms before lol.
When I heard this song, and the entire Royal Scam album, I went into mild depression because I was unsure if I would ever hear a better album in my life -- no joke. It is that good.
I just picked up The Royal Scam on vinyl, used and not so abused. Man, if that LP could talk, where it's been and what it's seen and heard, who knows??
For anyone who did not get to see a 2003 SD concert: this song sounds amazing in concert. Sound board reproductions do not come close to the real thing.
Just saw this Legendary group in Dallas for the second time. I sure would have liked to hear this one in concert along with some of their more melodic tunes. Concert was good. A lot of my favorites were missed both times. Glad I can see Black Cow, Deacon Blues, Caves and Kid Charlemagne on youtube anyhow.
I know how hard it is to pick a favorite from a great band, but this song is absolutely my favorite. The way the vocals just burst out, from the beginning, with such directness, all primary syllables... such a great melody... the saxes... magnificent!
one of their best but there are so many!Unlike many songs from the 70's this still means as much today as it did then and they still write them today.
This song, like most of ROYAL SCAM and the whole SD catalogue, is damn hard to beat!

I LVOE the album version.
I want to replace the trumpet player -- with ME.
It takes chops to play the horn part to this tune. Sometimes Leonhart is hit-and-miss on his playing. Hulk Smash. ARRRggghhh.

I was at this show, and so glad they played Caves. If I remember correctly, it was the 2nd or 3rd song of the night.

I have to go with Sign In Stranger as my all time favorite. But this is up there on the list too.
