My '81 Riviera could come with a T-type version that had a Turbocharged 3.8 V6. I've got a base one but I plan on pulling a few unique parts off one in a scrap yard.
I never knew these cars came with a T-type option. I always thought they looked rather bland as the base model, but it seems the mid-to-late 1980s, GM was pretty good with the factory bodykits. Made the mundane look really cool.
My parents ordered one of these cars when I was 6-7 years old. When they went to pick it up, it had a massive dent on the side panel, that apparently just occurred RIGHT before they arrived at the dealership. Needless to say, the damage was extensive enough that they didn't want the car and got a Electra instead. I loved the Electra, but man, it would have been sick to have this car! Awesome deal. Cant wait to see it fixed up.
Nice rare find! You got a pretty good deal considering all it really needs is some body work and the window motors replaced. What Oldsmobile did this replace? I never knew you owned one cause I've never seen a video of it on your channel. I've just seen Lynol's Custom Cruiser wagon.
A guy who lives down from the street in one of my old houses has one sitting in his driveway. Its been there for years and still is! Same color and in the same condition!
@phill903 T-type was an option package that was intended to look sportier with better suspensions than the plain versions of the same car. It had nothing to do with T-tops.
The LeSabre, Electra, Regal and Somerset all had T-Type options. The Regal was the only version that got an upgraded engine, that being the Turbo 3.8 from the Grand National.
What was extremely interesting to me is that Buick actually sold Turbo Regal Limited's with wire wheel covers and all the chrome trim!
Nice car. Dad had one of them. Nice interior and drove just as sporty as it looked.

Great car. You got a better car for the money than I did with the Bonneville.
